Caleb woke up, but he was alone. Sitting up in his bed and taking a deep breath, I can’t smell her. She must have slipped out when I fell asleep. What an odd night he thought, Caleb had been roaming the forrest when he saw a golden light on the horizon just before the sun set and the full moon became the only light in the sky. Walking over towards a clear spot from the trees, he wanted to be able to watch as the moon became the only source of light. As he sat admiring the golden light a woman appeared out of nowhere and than just as she appeared the light was gone. He bristled at the stranger, these are his woods he was going to protect them from anyone. He smelled the air, if she was a rouge wolf he would be able to tell. However he didn’t smell any sort of wolf smell on her, rouge or otherwise. This woman was something else, even though she presented as a she wolf Caleb doubted very much that was what she actually was. He was intrigued by this woman, he didn’t love that she was headed right for his village and his pack members who lived there. Caleb trailed the woman and watched very closely, she seemed to be enjoying the view. She wondered through the village and smiled at all the pack members who she could see through their windows. He sat at the tree line and just watched, he didn’t have to wait long because she spotted him and gave a short bow. She had joined him where he sat and as they spoke he was very drawn to her. He had not found his mate and this woman was not her but somehow he felt drawn to her, like an instant connection. The night ended not as he intended but he wasn’t complaining either.
As he got up out of his bed, well he thought that was that than. She had told him she wouldn’t be staying long and she had told the truth. All he had gotten from her really was her name; Selena. Anymore than that was just a guess and he didn’t like to play the would have could have game.
He left his home and went straight to the woods, he shifted quickly and went to the stream that ran softly right outside the village. It was a cool morning but with his shaggy wolf coat the weather wasn’t an issue. Caleb crossed the stream easily, during the warmer months the stream dried up quite a bit although it was still enough for the pack to use it for clean drinking water, to bathe, and wash clothes. He had made this village from nothing and was very proud of what he had accomplished. As he reached the end of his boarder he started trotting around the outer edge of his land. A morning routine that he kept to, making sure any and all knew that this was his land and he would fight to make sure it stayed that way.
When he was younger it was only his parents and himself, they roamed the woods looking for a place to call home. Before that could happen they ran into a large rouge pack, his parents had declined to accept their alpha and got killed for it. The alpha would have killed him too but luckily one of the females did not like that idea and took him in the night. She protected him and raised him herself. It wasn’t an easy task, a lone she wolf without a pack is a rough road to take. Add in the extra hardship of having a pup to feed and raise it was a miracle that Caleb survived long enough to reach adulthood. The she wolf who raised him had been a caring woman, long black hair, stunning blue eyes deep in color like the ocean, and the sure strength to carry on. She did not only want to live she wanted to thrive and have a life, for Caleb to have a life as well. When the woman realized Caleb must have alpha blood in him she decided that he needed to be taught what it meant to be a true leader and not only that but a fighter as well. She took Caleb to many friends and distant family members, they would train him in what they knew and than the pair would move on. That was Caleb’s life, or at least the beginning of it. He will always be grateful to the woman who risked her life daily to raise him and keep him safe but roaming around never having a solid home was not for him. When he was big enough he made them a home, the same home he still lives in. Unfortunately a life on the run had taken its toll on his adoptive mother, she died suddenly. It was a hard blow to Caleb.
Now that he had his own pack which was full of wolves with similar story’s to his own he was very protective of his peace and theirs. In honor of the woman who gave her life to make sure he would be able to live his.
The men and women who joined his pack all wanted the same thing.. peace. In order to attain that peace Caleb taught them all how to fight, and how to avoid a fight if at all possible. Some of the men he had trained left his village to find their mates it made him proud to know that almost everyone came back to the village with their mates, to continue their lives in his pack. They also encouraged Caleb to do the same thing, go they would say. We will watch over the village so you can find your mate, shes out there. Caleb would refuse politely and continue with his constant task of making sure his people were taken care of.
The day started as any other did, he went on patrol of his land. He smelt her before he saw her, a rouge running at full speed through the woods. Her scent was heavenly though not like a regular rouges who smelt rough and who had lost all hope, sometimes they smelt of pure madness. This female was running though and he would have to chase her to catch up to, he did not want to do that though in case she thought he was going to hurt her. Trying to figure out where she was headed was his best plan so he could head her off and stop her or maybe even save her from whatever she was running from.
At full speed he ran through the trees luckily these were his trees and he knew them well, with the knowledge of the woods on his side he was able to catch up and cut her off easily. She spotted him, a ginger coated wolf with brown eyes.
She smelt him and was not impressed apparently because she growled low and menacingly. Caleb laid down on the ground to hopefully show her he wasn’t going to harm her, she wasn’t a fan of that either baring her teeth to show her displeasure. Caleb backed up a little, she calmed down when he did, she did not appear to be friendly but at least she wasn’t ready to bite his head off. She was a large wolf, and he really was not ready to fight her in any way. He shifted to human form, it was a risk because she could easily run off and it would take him a while to catch back up to her. Caleb just sat where he was in his human form and watched her.
“I am not going to hurt you, I know you can smell me and I know that you recognize my scent as the mate bond.” Nothing was what he got in return but at least she did not run away from him so that was a good sign. “I am the alpha of a pack, my village isn’t far from here. Will you accompany me back to it? I could get you something to eat if you’re hungry, or perhaps help you hide if you’re running from someone?”
With that she shifted to her human form, she was lean but not skin and bones like most rouges. This woman was muscular and had ginger hair that went down to her knees.
“I’m not running from anyone, and I don’t need any charity. I am fine on my own and I really do not want to belong to some back alley wolf who thinks he’s an alpha.”
“Well” Caleb said with a smile, “I would never presume to own you, I simply think you could be my equal in my back alley.”
The woman raised an eyebrow at him.
“That came out wrong, I promise it sounded better in my head. What i meant was, I don’t think anyone “belongs” to anyone but i would like to get to know you.”
The woman gave him a small smile, “I am hungry, and if you’re cooking I wouldn’t mind eating.”
