Chapter Three: Anike beamed with pride as she walked into her parents' hut, her report card clutched tightly in her hand. Mister and Missus Aduk and Ugo Okafor couldn't help but smile as they saw the excitement on their daughter's face. "Anike, our dear, you've done it again!" her mother exclaimed, hugging her tightly. Anike's teacher, Miss Taye, had written a glowing report, praising Anike's exceptional academic abilities and her thirst for knowledge. At just six years old, Anike was already topping her class, and her parents couldn't be prouder. But amidst all the celebration, Anike's friend Adesi dropped a bombshell. "Anike, did you know that when we turn fifteen, we'll be married off?" she said, her eyes sparkling with excitement. Anike's heart sank. She had heard whispers of the tradition, but she had never thought it would apply to her. She was meant to be a healer, to help people and make a difference. "Adesi, no!" Anike exclaimed. "We can't just leave our education to get married. We have to further our studies and become something great." Adesi looked confused. "But Anike, it's our tradition. Our parents will choose our husbands, and we'll have children and take care of the home." Anike shook her head. "I won't do it. I want to be a healer, to help people and make a difference. I want to learn more and bring advanced technology to our village." Her parents, who had been quietly observing the conversation, stepped in. "Anike, our dear, you have a bright future ahead of you. We'll support you every step of the way." But Anike knew that the tradition was strong, and she would have to fight to achieve her dreams. She was determined to become a healer, no matter what lay ahead.
