Undefeated Daughter

15. Travel Partner

Lily POV:

I went back to training and noticed that all my sisters were getting ready to fight again. I knew I would be surrounded my wolves. I only wanted one wolf next me, one that swore not to hurt me.

“Lucas wait” I caught up to him and grabbed his hand.

“Yes?” his grin appeared.

“Can you pair up with me please?” I knew my sisters weren’t around me and they wouldn’t hear what I said.

For the reminder of the afternoon, I fought with Steelix, he tried to get around me and I tried to get him in a headlock but after a while I realised that was futile, my arms weren’t able to go around his neck.

At one point he started purring and I knew that was my chance to defeat him, I pulled my bow forward and I held my arrow on his head.

“You’re out Steelix, you need to be quicker” he heard him growl and I knew he didn’t like to be disrespected .

The next morning, I realised that Fury wasn’t leading the training and Poppy looked worried, whatever happened must have been serious, Fury would never leave us. We practices defence rather than offence and we all knew why. We were all fighting an unknown enemy.

“Lily may I speak with you” Kilian called me into his office. I realised Lucas was standing in the corner eyeing me up. He was playing around with  toothpick whist his arms were crossed over his chest making him look even muscular.

As Kilian sat down I noticed how beaten up his knuckles were, the wall behind him looked like the victim of his beating.

“Lily I know who you are and I mean you no offence when I say this because I know how incredible the Daughters are. Lucas told me about your work for the Elders”.

I gave Lucas a stunned look and I tried to piece what Kilian was saying with the information Lucas could have given him.

“Okay?” I answered.

“My brother is going to be an Alpha soon and he needs to be more well known in the wolf community. We also need to check on the local defence from the other packs. Lucas came up with the idea of checking them out himself and he asked me if he could take a Daughter with him” Kilian explained softly.

“So why me?” I asked knowing the full answer to my question, Lucas wanted me near him.

“Again, Lily I mean no offence but you are a human Daughter, your chosen weapon is a bow and arrow and most of our warriors know how to use a sword” he answered, that was not the reason I was expecting.

“I beg your pardon. So, you want me to baby-sit your little brother because I am a human incapable of protecting wolves? If you didn’t realise I was the one who defeated him twice and no-on has defeated me yet. I may not be the best with a  sword but Lucas did not win against me. So, tell me again why me, without your prejudice and discrimination?”

“Because you are probably the most well-known Daughter who works for the Elders. Most Alphas have to go to New York and the protection was up to you. We need to check their defences and how they are planning to protect themselves if they were to be attacked. The Daughters were the most well-kept secret in the Elder history, with Fury telling everyone who the Daughters are you need to be more of a presence”.  Lucas chipped in.

“So, I’m not your bodyguard?”

“No, you’re my partner”.

I raised an eyebrow in confusion. What did he just say?

“What?”

“My travel partner, come on we have to visit three packs today and before you ask yes Poppy has agreed to it”.

“So, I have no say in this?” I folded my arms in front of me and looked at them both.

“You can stay here and fight with wolves if you want or you can raise the profile of the Daughters with me” I knew what he meant, me staying here would mean that I would have to fight against wolves I wasn’t comfortable to be around. Steelix made an oath not to hurt me,  but I didn’t know what the other wolves were capable of. “Good, I’ll meet you downstairs in 15 minutes” Lucas walked out the door and left me alone with Kilian.

“Lily?” He spoke up before I left his office.

“Yes?”

“Has Fury been in contact with you I don’t know where she is?”

“Poppy has told me that she has gone back to the Order to speak to Mother”.

I walked down the stairs with my bag in my hand and my bow on my back. He was leaning against his car and had at annoying grin on his face. He must have thought we were going on a road trip. I threw my bag in  trunk and sat in the passenger seat.

“Ready?”

“It was your idea wasn’t it?” I asked through my teeth.

“I told you I would protect you”

I stayed silent for the rest of the drive. When I noticed that we were driving through Mississippi I tried to recall any packs that were there. Only small packs that didn’t even attend the meetings, they either despised the Elders or were managed by another pack. I knew that Kilian managed most of the southern packs but I had to ask Lucas to explain.

“Which pack are we going to?”.

“Mason Forest pack”.

“I never heard of them, where are they?”

“Jackson”.

“They are located in the city centre ?”

That was unheard of, the wolves needed to run around in the forest and need to feel closer to nature. They would be going insane or even their wolves could die. I didn’t feel sorry for them, not  one bit but it was hard to understand.

As we approached a suburban Mansion I realised that the pack couldn’t be bigger than 200 people. We walked up the stairs to be met with a young man he couldn’t be older than 20. His black skin shined in the sun and I noticed how well groomed he was. He really took pride in his appearance.

“Alpha Mark, it’s good to see you again” Lucas shook his hand. “This is Lily she is a representative of the Order of Daughters; they are currently training our warriors” Mark looked me up and down and held his hand out for me to shake. I put both of my hands on my bow and looked directly at him without saying a word.

Feeling the awkwardness, Lucas broke the silence.

“May we take this to the office perhaps?”

Mark’s office was like any other I have been in, dark with leather chairs and oak wooden additions. The royal red wallpaper matched the massive chair which Mark sat in. When I sat down in front of him  he didn’t take his eyes off of me.

“Lucas you didn’t need to come down here. The move is going perfectly well and my whole pack is excited for our future”.

I gave Lucas a look after which he knew I wanted this situation explained.

“Lily, Mark’s Pack is being helped out by Marble. Kilian has brought land that would fit this pack and they are moving this week”.

“They need to train.”

“You think we can’t protect ourselves little one?” Mark’s comments made me pull my blade out.

“You tell me. Can you protect yourself again Old Power? Have you ever been in a war with an unknown enemy? Are your own people ready to fight for their Alpha, or are their heads stuck up their own asses just like him?” I started to play around with my blade between my fingers.

“Listen here little one…”

“No, you listen, I have protected wolves my whole life and if I was the enemy I would have killed you already Where are your guards? Where is the Beta? There are no guards or borders on this pack. If Kilian wasn’t helping you, you would be dead in a week. The only reason why you have survived this long is because you’re in the city. When you move you need to send your soldiers to Marble or there will be no one in this world that will mention Mason Forest again”.

I stood up and walked out of the mansion back to the car, after a few minutes I was Lucas walk down the stairs fixing his blazer. He got in the car and started to drive off whilst he put in a new zip code into the GPS.

“Where to now?” I asked.

“Anger management classes?”

“Ha, ha, ha, very funny. Lucas I need to know about the next Pack. I’m not going to apologise about what I said to Mark”

“And I’m not going to apologise for beating him up”

“You did what?”

“What you said is true. His pack is weak that’s why Kilian decided to help them but I thought they improved before moving. Clearly they haven’t. When you spoke to him and told him what to do I could smell his arousal and he was ready to mark you. I had to teach him a lesson, I smashed a few of his teeth in and he won’t be leaving that mansion any time soon with those marks on his face”.

“Who needs anger management now?” I joked about.

“No one will talk to you that way Lily. You deserve respect and he didn’t give you any”.

“Where are we going now?”

“Black Moon Pack".
