16. Black Eyes

Lucas POV  

I was worried about going to Black Moon but since Neil was there at the Elders meeting he would know about the Daughters. He had one of the biggest Packs in the East and it would give me time to get to know Lily a little bit better.

Matthew told me that it was the only pack that rejected a Luna. Black Moon was under a curse from the Moon Goddess for being ungrateful and using human slaves hundreds of years ago. Every Alpha since that curse was never able to find a Luna. He would have a chosen mate but because he would never have a mate connection the Black Moon Alphas would die a lot quicker from old age and their wolves would finally die.

As we pulled up to the Black Mansion I realised how much better they were than Manson Forest. The front garden were filled with soldiers training. I needed to raise my profile as a new Alpha and I needed Alphas like Neil on my side.

We were escorted by two soldiers dressed in black armour until we reached Neil’s office. When we walked in we saw him looking over some contracts in the corner of his office.

“Alpha Lucas good to meet you. How’s the training going?” he looked at Lily and he waited for her to respond yet again she stayed quiet.

“It’s going quite well thank you, I was going to visit Green Forest pack but I know you overlook them. How are they doing?”.

Neil ignored Lily and continued talking about the local packs. They were the stronghold in the East and Neil overlooked all the borders and pack situations. He was an Alpha that has respected his wolf and did everything that his wolf asked. We all disagreed with our wolves but the Black Moon Alpha had to do everything to keep his wolf from dying. He was only 22 but was getting grey hair, his aging process was speeding up.

As I went over and discussed Pack matters I realised that Lily had not moved and her hand was still on her bow. As Neil poured himself a drink I noticed that Lily’s hand was getting white from the pressure which she was holding her bow with. I listened to her heartbeat and it was packing at a ridiculous pace.

“Ummm Neil do you mind if I speak to Lily very quickly?” I scratched the back of my head knowing it was a lame excuse. Neil nodded and went back to look over the map which was hanging on his wall.

As soon as we left his office, Lily started hyperventilating.

“Lily, what’s wrong? Do you know him? What has he done?”

I saw fear plaster across her face and when I held her hands I realised how sweaty they were. This wasn’t just a scary thought it was another panic attack.

“That bastard!” I grit my teeth and was ready to storm back into his office.

“Wait no” she held onto my wrist, the first words she said here. ”His eyes, he has black eyes”.

In that moment I remembered what she told me. It was a black wolf who killed her parents, a black wolf with black eyes. Most wolves had coloured eyes but because Black Moon Alpha respected his wolf so much he let him come out every now and then even in business meetings.

“It couldn’t have been him” I slowly said.

“It was him”.

“How sure are you?” I grabbed her hips and made her look up at me.

“His eyes” she said softly.

“I’m guessing you don’t know the story of Black Moon. Neil is only 22 so he couldn’t have killed your parents because wolves are not awake then. They no longer kill humans or use them as their slaves. Neil is doing everything he can to get rid of the  Black Moon curse and so did his father before him. The wolf that killed your parents couldn’t have been from Black Moon. The years and years of work would have been wasted”.

 I saw the realisation on her face and her whole body relaxed, the tears stopped rolling down her face. I felt her body moving closer to mine and she rested her head on my chest. I couldn’t help but hug her closer.

“I’m sorry. I haven’t seen black eyes in years”. I heard her soft voice whisper those words into my shirt. I was astounded how can someone so proud and confident can be broken within seconds. I opened the door to Neil’s office and Lily went to shake his hand.

“Alpha Neil, it’s a pleasure to meet you. I must say I am impressed with your training.”.

“That is a lot coming from a Daughter. I don’t want you to be offended and think that we don’t want any help but New Orleans is quite far away and I rather train my own warriors here.”

“That’s understandable Neil”  as I heard her say his name I felt my own anger stir up inside of me. His wolf purred at the idea of another woman saying his name with excitement. “Tell me Daughter you don’t believe in mates do you?” what was he getting at?

“No, I don’t” she answered.

“That makes two of us”. He better have a chosen mate already or I am going to rip his throat open.

“How’s Green Forest?” I tried to divert the conversation.

“They sent some of their soldiers here and we are training them. The information that you forwarded.. it was useful thank you Lucas I really appreciate it.”

After a couple of hours, we were on our way and I was glad with the progress Lily was making. She seemed a little bit more relaxed around wolves and I hoped she was starting to enjoy my company.

“Lily why don’t you try to get some sleep, I’ll carry on driving.”

“I thought this was a day thing.”

“I’m going to visit a few more Packs. You know kill a few birds with one stone and I think you will like the next place. But you need to sleep”. 

Lily POV:

New York… again.

As I slowly came to, I realised where we were, but no idea why. No Pack was allowed to be in New York, that city belonged to the Elders for years and it was a stronghold.

“Lucas?” I startled him as I woke up. “Why are we in New York?”.

I saw his lip curl up on one side and I was expecting a clever comment.

“Lucas?” I repeated my question.

“You have spent all of yesterday travelling and impressing the Alphas, it’s time for me repay the favour”.

“You brought me to the one place which I hate to impress me?” I was baffled, how stupid was this guy. ”I hate everything about New York”.

“Even Bella?”

Okay so maybe he wasn’t that stupid, I realised what he was doing, he brought me back to the Children’s home as he knew how happy it made me.

“It’s Bella’s birthday so I thought we could celebrate?”

Lucas pulled up into the children’s home and walked in the building like he owned it.

“Lucas is that you? Oh, hi Lily, it’s nice to see you again, the children were asking about you” the owner, Clarissa, said as we walked into the sitting room. Lucas raised his eyebrow and realised I have been here without him since he has brought me here. “I have everything ready; children will be waking up in two hours so that gives us plenty of time” Clarissa left us as she went back into the kitchen.

“Time for what?” I asked panicked.

“Baking a cake of course” WHAT!

For the next hour Lucas explained what I had to do and why. I had no idea how to bake or cook for that matter. Somehow he still had hope that Bella was going to end up with a three-tiered chocolate cake, I wasn’t so optimistic. The only thing that was left to do was frosting and Clarissa went to wake up the children and get them ready for Bella’s surprise breakfast party.

“What about this?” I asked Lucas to taste it as I wasn’t sure. He dunked his finger in and said it was delicious. I was frosting the cake when I felt his eyes on me again.

“What?”

“You have a bit of frosting on your face” he said as he got close to me. “Here let me” I felt his soft lips on my cheek, in an instant our foreheads were touching.

“Waste not want not” he said softly.

I moved to the side and went back to frosting the cake, when the masterpiece, or whatever this was I picked up a spoon and started to eat the rest of the frosting.

“Waste not, want not” I shrugged my shoulders when I noticed Lucas’ shocked face.

“You’re not going to share?” he started to chase me around the kitchen.

“Lucas no, let me go !” I started to laugh.

He grabbed my waist and spun me around to face him, Lucas lifted me up on the counter and instinctively I wrapped my legs around his torso.

“You’re killing me Lily!” he growled

“I’m only eating frosting!”

“Close your eyes, you’ve got it on your face again”

I did what he asked me to do. I didn’t want to see what he was doing, I felt stupid for frosting a cake whilst my sisters were training, I shouldn’t be enjoying myself. I knew that if I kept my eyes open I would remember every detail of this moment, not a worry in sight just a perfect moment. I felt Lucas’ lips on mine, that moment became even better. His hands travelled up my thighs and rested on my hips, as his head moved to the side I knew he wanted more and for some reason I wasn’t  stopping him. His lips were the smooth yet the action was harsh, like a he was starving in a dessert and I was the spring of fresh water.

I felt my phone vibrate in my pocket but I didn’t want my lips to break apart, only my sisters and clients had my number. He pulled his body back and I missed the warmth of his body straight away.

“You have got to be f*****g kidding me” he sighted as his lips traced  down to the side of my neck. I picked up my phone without looking at the screen.

“Lily come back!” Poppy didn’t even say hi, she cut straight to the chase.

“Home or Marble?”

“Marble ASAP”

“I’m coming” with that I hung up and looked directly at Lucas who must have heard the conversation and started to walk out of the room.
