Chapter 13: Are you playing?

I just kept looking, I was trying to make sense of what was happening and making the effort to formulate coherent thoughts, but it was all so confusing, why is he coming over here?

He stopped just in front of me, he extended his arm and gave me his hand to have a handshake.

Wait what?

I stood up, I took his hand and shook it with a light squeeze.

His hands were hot and also mine.

We stood there just a little, holding hands and I looked at our hands and then back at him.

I was looking at him when he just said, “Hi Vanessa, how are you?”

My brain went blank, ‘nada’ there, and I just managed to say

“Hi” after quite a while.

He kept holding my hand that was now sweaty and I just pulled it out of his.

“Why are you greeting me like this?” I asked in a not so harsh tone, I did my best to soften the tone.

He just shrugged and replied “Why not? You are my friend”

“Are we friends?”

“You are Larry’s friend, why not mine?” he said

“Huh, so this is about Larry?”

“No, why would it be about him? It is about you and me”

“Ok wait, what is about you and me?” I asked while keeping the eye contact with him

“I got to go, I will see you tomorrow at school, if it is ok with you, now, can we say hi to the other with a handshake?”

“Maybe”

“I hope we do that”

“Ok Andrew we will see what will happen later, I guess I will see you at school, bye” I said as I waved goodbye and sat on the step.

He nodded and started to walk away, when suddenly stopped and looked back at me and then he tells me “You did not answer my questions Vanessa”

I make a big smile and I nod yes at him.

He smiled and then nodded at me, he turned around, walked to his bike, took it and rode away, as the other day he turned left on the corner.

Wow, what the heck just happened?

I don't know, erased is his best friend as far as I can see, they are always together at the recess or everywhere I see them at school.

I guess we will see and figure it out.

Next day at school was like every other day, talking about classes, but the recess, the recess was another story, I think those two just lost it.

We got our food from the cafeteria and then we went to the third section backyard.

As soon as we entered the backyard, I found so weird not to see Andrew and Larry in their usual spot, when I heard “Oh that’s interesting” from Sandy, I looked at her and then followed the direction of her gaze, yep, Oh boy!

That is something I was not prepared to witness, at all.

When we saw them, we just stopped at the center of the backyard, we looked at ourselves and I just figured the ladies were as surprised as I was.

We just found our bench with people on it, Andrew, and all of his friends were sitting there, in our bench.

I told the ladies “Let’s go under the stair we were standing last week”

They all nodded, but then Larry screamed my name “Vanessa come here, we are waiting for you”

When I heard him, I wanted to just disappear from there, I guess my face was red, like super red.

I turned around to see him and mostly to see Andrew.

Andrew was casually sitting there with an entertained look on his face.

I just nodded no to Larry and turned back to walk with the ladies to rest our backs on the wall that is next to the stairs.

When we were finally there, Larry stood up and walked directly to us, and just a few seconds later Andrew did the same thing, so they both are coming over here, ohhhhh lord!

Larry came straight to me, extended his arm, and asked me for a handshake, seriously, doing this again?

Once I took his hand, he told me “Hi Vanessa, how are you?”

I just laughed loudly at him, what is going on with these two?

Then Andrew arrived after him, took his wrist, and pulled it so he would release my hand, I stopped laughing and looked at Andrew with strangeness all over my face.

Then he extended his arm to me, and I was just nodding no, like in disapproval, but he took my hand, and I also held his hand, he shook it and then said, “Hi Vanessa, how is my friend today?”

I just smirked at him and asked him “What is going on with the both of you?”

They both looked at each other and then at me but kept silent.

“Are you playing with me? Is this a competition or a bet? Answer me, please” I added.

They lost their smiles and looked at each other again for a few seconds, Andrew gave a weird glare at Larry and then Larry just said, “I will see you later my new friend” and walked away.

Confused, I looked back at Andrew and then he just told me “I see you later at your house and I will explain everything, ok?”

He squeezed my hand and then released it.

I nodded at him, he nodded back and then just walked away to go sit on the bench.

I felt dizzy and rested at the wall again, then all the ladies became crazy excited, and they were looking at me and even when they were just watching me carefully, I knew all the questions they wanted to ask me.

I looked at the bench and saw Andrew talking seriously with Larry, then Larry looked at me and wink, I just laughed and muttered to him ‘Are you crazy?’ and he answered me a “no” also muttered.

I smiled at him and then Andrew looked back at me but he was really serious so I lost the smile and just nodded at him when he muttered ‘I will see you later’.
