Chapter 9

2672 Words

Chapter 9 The kids were better than I expected during dinner. I felt like I was the one who was jumpy and anxious. We circled a table that seemed better suited for two people when one of them was as big as Ethan. His knee brushed mine constantly, and he rested his arm on the back of my chair all too often, leaning toward me and making me crazy. When I finally choked down my burger and Ethan paid for everyone’s dinner, he guided me out of the restaurant with a possessive hand low on my back. The kids were halfway to Charlie’s by the time we caught up to them. Becca and Kevin didn’t slow down until they were inside, and Ethan pulled me to a stop. “Do you not want to introduce me to your friend?” I shook my head. The idea of him meeting Charlie never even crossed my mind. “Of course not.”
