Chapter 6

“You must be joking, right? You’re not seriously saying that, are you?” Seraphina panicked, her eyes brimming with tears. She had willingly divorced a man who truly loved her—for Alston. “Stop touching me, damn it!” Thud! Seraphina was stunned and burst into tears when Alston shoved her to the ground. Though he felt a pang of pity, Damian didn’t show the slightest concern. “Where’s the divorce paper?” Elisya asked one of the staff. The staff handed her the paper with trembling hands, but Alston snatched it immediately. “You don’t need to sign it, Damian. Don’t you still love Seraphina? I swear I won’t interfere with your marriage again. I’m sorry for believing Seraphina’s lies when she said you used to beat her.” Alston forced a stiff smile. He couldn’t accept the fact that Elisya would marry Damian after their divorce. Elisya glanced nervously at Damian, waiting for his answer. Would he change his mind and take Seraphina back? An overwhelming anxiety consumed her. It wasn’t just the fear of Alston disturbing her again—she had already fallen for Damian. She couldn’t bear to see him return to Seraphina. Only he could make her feel Levon’s presence. “No.” Damian’s answer shocked Alston. “I’ve found a woman who respects me more.” Damian wrapped his arm around Elisya’s waist and pulled her close. Elisya’s heart nearly stopped when their bodies touched, feeling his warmth against hers. Damian took the divorce papers from Alston and signed them. A relieved smile curved on Elisya’s lips. “We’re officially divorced. I hope you find happiness without me.” Damian smiled at the sobbing Seraphina. But Seraphina took it as a personal insult. Unconsciously, her fists clenched tightly. “Let’s go, babe. The wedding planner staff is waiting for us,” Elisya whispered, tightening her hold on Damian’s arm. “Okay, baby.” They walked away without looking back. “Damn it! This is a disaster! How the hell did that bastard end up with Elisya?!” Alston punched the wall in frustration. “I swear, I’ll take her back!” Meanwhile, Damian and Elisya were already seated side-by-side in the car. “Thank you for your help earlier, Miss Elisya. Without you, Alston would’ve kept trampling over me.” Damian offered a sincere smile. “You don’t need to thank me, Mr. Damian. It was nothing compared to what you’ve done for my father.” “How is your father, by the way? Is he doing better?” “Yes. Actually, he wants to meet you. Would you mind stopping by my house before we go see Mr. Darwin?” Elisya asked politely. Damian felt respected—someone was finally asking for his opinion. Unlike Seraphina and her family, no one had ever cared about what he liked or disliked. “Of course.” Half an hour later, the pink Rolls-Royce stopped in front of a grand white mansion. The estate was surrounded by a vast garden, complete with a fountain and a horse statue in the front yard. The car circled the fountain before pulling up to the lobby. Damian followed Elisya out of the car and into the mansion. The head butler and the rest of the staff welcomed him at the door. “Welcome, Mr. Damian,” they said in unison, bowing respectfully as he walked past. “This feels a bit too much, Miss. I’m not the president,” Damian said, feeling a little awkward. “You deserve it. To me, you’re my guardian angel.” Elisya’s cheeks flushed slightly, though she tried to act normal. Elisya led Damian to her father’s room. Inside, Roy and Doctor Matthew were chatting with Kennedy. “Daddy, how are you feeling?” Elisya smiled gently as she approached her father, who was resting against the headboard. Though still a bit pale, his face looked cheerful. “I’m doing well, sweetheart.” “You don’t have to worry, Miss. Under my supervision, your father is in good hands.” Roy smiled smugly, hoping to win Elisya’s favor. But Elisya ignored him completely, not even bothering to glance his way. “I brought someone who saved your life, Daddy.” Elisya held Kennedy’s hand. “Really? Where is he?” Elisya looked toward Damian, who was still standing at the doorway. “Come in.” Politely, Damian walked over to Kennedy and bowed. “Pleasure to meet you, Mr. Kennedy.” Doctor Matthew looked surprised. “Wasn’t it Roy who saved Mr. Kennedy, Miss Elisya?” “There’s no way this fraud saved my father.” Roy stiffened. How did she know? Who told her? Was it Damian? *Damn it! How dare he ruin my reputation in front of her!* Roy’s fists clenched tightly. Doctor Matthew looked irritated at his son. How could he fail to gain Elisya’s attention? If Roy succeeds, his chances of becoming Elisa's future husband will be greater. “Thank you for helping me, son. Without you, I would’ve been dead.” “Saving lives is my duty.” Elisya furrowed her brows. Damian’s words sounded ambiguous, as if he weren’t human. “I mean, as fellow human beings, we should help one another,” Damian quickly corrected himself. No one must know he was a god. “What would you like as a token of gratitude?” “That’s not necessary. Knowing you and your daughter is already a precious gift. As a man who’s lived alone, it means a lot to me.” Both Kennedy and Elisya felt sympathetic. “Where are your parents, son?” Damian went silent. He didn’t know how to answer, since he had no idea about this body’s original past. “Everyone has things they can’t tell others, Dad,” Elisya defended Damian. “I’m sorry, son. I didn’t mean to pry. If you’re willing, you can stay here and be like a son to me. I’ve always wanted a son. I feel bad that Elisya has to manage the company all by herself while I lie here in bed,” Kennedy chuckled. Damian chuckled softly too. He liked Kennedy’s warm personality and sense of humor. “Or would you prefer to be my son-in-law?” Kennedy teased, wiggling his eyebrows. “Daddy, stop it,” Elisya grumbled, clearly embarrassed. Roy and Doctor Matthew seethed at the close interaction between Elisya, Kennedy, and Damian. Matthew had long planned to marry his son Roy to Elisya, but it always ended in failure. Outside the room, the two men spoke. “We need to get rid of that bastard, Dad.” “I agree.” Elsewhere, Elisya’s phone suddenly rang. She quickly answered when she saw it was from Darwin’s private nurse. “What is it, Hannah?” “Mr. Darwin fainted again! He’s in the ER and his condition is worsening!” “What?” Elisya gasped, her eyes welling with tears. “What’s wrong, Elisya?” Kennedy asked in concern. Elisya couldn’t answer. She just cried silently, completely in shock. It felt like her world was collapsing. Damian took the phone from her. “If he doesn’t get help soon, he’ll die,” Hannah added. Damian remained calm. “I’ll be there right away. Make sure you give him the initial treatment until I arrive.” “Y-yes, sir.” “Come on, Miss. Let’s go.” Elisya nodded. “I’m coming too,” Matthew and Roy volunteered. Elisya gave a brief nod. The four of them got into the car. Roy and Matthew smirked slyly in secret. They wouldn’t let Damian steal the credit from them again.
