Chapter 1 - New Year's Party

1068 Words
I was at a party. Invited by my peers, my real friends. Erelah Williams and Orifiel Bender. They said that due to the heavy problems that we are facing right now. It will be nice to loosen up from the tension by attending a secret private school New Year’s party before school starts. I wanted to agree. But a part of my introverted self-had decided to study for the exams. But my friends also stressed about the exams that were nearing in. They wanted a time out to freshen their minds. With it a bit of fun, since it was new years and quarantine period was still around the corner. I saw Kafziel Bradford and his gf, Bea arguing. As their mouth gaping at each other. The music was too loud for me to understand a word. I witnessed as Bea slapped him hard across his face. He bled a little. As he wiped it with his thumb. It was an unexpected coincidence that I encountered with my secret crush. He is there in all his handsomeness. His girlfriend (Bea) was equally beautiful. That made them a match. But I couldn't say the same about their compatibility. I knew that it wasn't in good shape. I was always ogling him at the corner of my eye when I was arranging my locker. Even their flirty mishaps during class when they first started dating. I wasn't a stalker. We were classmates. It’s unavoidable, plus they whole campus knows about them and their PDA. It was an eyesore, to me and all that had a thing for him too. ……… I grab a snack by the counter top in the kitchen, where bunch of people huddled up in groups. Talking. I didn’t notice him behind me. His hot drunk breath brushed my nape. It took me by surprise. “You're drunk.” Bringing myself to have the guts to talk to him at his obvious flirting. “Am I?” He was clearly drunk from the smell of it. I flinched with chills of his hand tracing the back of my spine. I back away. He looked sad. Gloomy. He wasn’t bothering me that much. But I wasn’t comfortable with how easily he can play me into my giving in to him. I controlled my urges, I desired him but taking advantage of it, might make me lose my chances to get to know him better. I wasn’t just about to be a friends-with-benefits gal and definitely, not a one night stander. "S-sorry..." he mumbled softly. He turned away slowly in a ruggish manner. Opposite to where I was headed. As much as I wanted to comfort him, I can't. I know that he still loves her. And they just had a big fight. I wasn't fond of Bea. But I always see a bright smile on his face whenever he is with her. I wasn't going to turn it upside down just because of my selfishness. ….. I wasn’t a coward. I wasn’t a b***h in heat that would automatically give in just because of getting felt up by him like the others. If anything, his actions were considered harassment if he wasn’t hot and popular. He was hot, smart and popular. An all-rounder. Girls would flock him along with his handsome peers, practically wearing short to nothing when it comes to impressing him. More like, throwing themselves at him. Such a player. But that was before he met Bea. ….. Bea was nothing special. But she was exceptionally beautiful, out of all the plastic basic bitches that I’ve met. Yeah, she was one of those girls. Girls that would take time in the bathroom to gossip, make-up and smoke. It was high-school, even if they prohibit minors to smoke and drink. Being a girl with status, boyfriends and having friends for illegal places makes it possible and convenient. Those doesn’t bother us. We along with my friends, we were the middle class. Meaning we were far from the one who get bullied after class. We were born rich or new money, which makes us an asset to them. We can easily join them. But I can’t stand them. They invited me once, I did tried to fit in. But I didn’t like the part where they change boyfriends from time to time like clothes. It wasn’t my thing. Plus gossiping each other’s in the backs is beneath me. I couldn’t bring myself to do that. I was even called Sister Aniela at one point. For being such a saint. I wasn’t kicked out, they couldn’t, and my parents had a very powerful rich empire that was popular in our area. I was treated as one of them because of it. “I quit” They were in shocked. But they didn’t complain either nor did they wanted me to stay. “Someone will take your place, you know that right?” “I know. “ I took off before I can hear her response. As the bathroom door closed. I can hear laughing. Like they were planning something. I felt a sinister aura coming through as a b***h purposely bumped me and snickered. “Thanks for the spot.” She whispered and erupted in a laughing frenzy like a villain that had the leverage over me. She entered the bathroom. …… What a b***h! My papers fell. But as I reached out to pick them all up. I met him. He flashed his pearly whites at me. As he piled up all the papers neatly in a bundle and handed them to me. “Here you go.” “T-thanks.” He nodded politely as he ran to his class. He captivated me by his simple act of kindness. I later knew him. His name was Kafziel Bradford. ……. I saw my friends hanging by a corridor I decided to go to them. But as I saw them kissing. I paused. “Ohhh…would you look at that? Ain’t that a show stopper?” A jerk slid his arm onto my shoulder. Mocking me. I decided to remove myself from the scene. “You don’t need to see that.” “Instead want to do something fun? It’ll make you forget what you saw.” Maybe at that time I wasn’t myself. I didn’t think straight. I didn’t think of the consequences of it. ..... But then, it happened....
