Chapter Two- Hunted

1085 Words
Olivia “What are you doing here?” I asked, my tone slightly raised, a crease formed between my brows. She paused, but continued forward helping me up to my feet. “I'll tell you about that later. We should focus on escaping first.” She said, and I swallowed hard. My head lowered involuntarily. I had already seemed to forget that I was now a criminal. I walked slowly behind her but I stopped, unable to shake off the suspicion. “How did you get here?” I asked, and she turned. She looked up to the ceiling, tired of my questions. “Is that really necessary now? Do you think I would harm you?” She asked, and I felt my shoulders slump. Jacob’s actions had already made me so paranoid that I was here questioning my best friend. “If you really want to know, I came to save you because…” she couldn't finish her words as a plank fell in our direction. My eyes widened, the fire had actually spread so far. She looked towards the flame which was starting to engulf where we now stood. She turned slightly towards me, about to speak but I grabbed her hand. I ran, my feet clamouring hard against the floor. My head raced violently, but I didn't stop until I was miles away from the prison. I stopped, letting her go. I bent, catching my breath. My eyes raised slightly to catch sight of the prison whose flames roared in the night sky. I couldn't help but feel suspicious. Even if a fire had started, our escape shouldn't have been so easy. It was almost like someone had cleared the road for me. “Olivia?” Her call snapped me back to reality. I turned to see Amy, who stood panting lightly. I squinted, studying her while she just stood there confused. “Why are you spacing out?” She asked, and I shook my head, about to ask my numerous questions, but her words made me pause. “The Alpha plans to kill you.” My heart skipped a beat. I wanted to argue immediately, but the words couldn't escape my lips. Seeing conflicted expressions, she continued. “My brother is a member of the council and he told me a fragment of the plan after I disturbed him for hours.” She said, before moving on to explain how she had seen a sealed order to kill me. My eyes twitched, my head processing her words. Jacob wanted my life? It sounded impossible, I wanted to deny it, but he had already publicly announced to me that he was a criminal. He had left me hours in that cell without any special treatment. Was he really not just after my life? My ears rang, the reality hitting me hard. Amy paused her words. She stared at me blankly before lowering her head, but I cut her off before she could speak. “Did he say why?” I asked, and she raised her head quickly, she blinked before she shook her head negatively. “I don't know. But from the evidence and rumours that spread, I think he is sure that you attacked his sister.” She said and I shook my head. I wasn't even in the pack when Elisa died. Why was he so convinced that I had killed her? I thought to myself, unable to connect the dots together but Amy's next words solidified the thought I had in mind. “Either way. The Alpha doesn't seem ready to launch another investigation.” She said and my head tilted slightly. Not ready to launch another investigation? Those words stayed arched in my head. “I already bribed the guards at the pack’s gate, and I also made a path for you to escape. Both would definitely keep you safe.” She said, and I paused. I was supposed to run now? I laughed, the thought of it was sarcastically funny. I could never have thought I would be running from my pack on the day I was to become Luna. The thought of it made my head spin, my blood boiled but Amy's words snapped me out of it. “I know you will be unwilling to do that.” She paused, locking eyes with mine. “It's best if you survive. Only then can you do whatever you want.” She said, and although I wanted to argue, I had to admit it was true. I nodded, wanting to follow along with her plan, but it still seemed weird. How did Amy get so many resources to help me get out? I was about to speak when lights flashed before my eyes. “Who is there?” I heard the stern voice of a guard. My eyes widened as I looked towards Amy. “Go quick, I'll cover for you.” She said, and without another thought, I turned to run. I looked back mid-way to see Amy anxious. Her head was tightly curled around each other. “Run.” She muttered, and I turned not questioning her actions anymore. Amy had never been caught in politics; she must have exerted a lot to save me. How could I doubt her? I ran without another thought in mind, and soon enough I crossed the pack's territory. My feet felt heavy as I attempted to leave. The pack I had spent my whole life in, where I had planned to spend my future. The only time I had left was to represent the pack, but now? I stood, staring at the place where I had stayed my entire life. I wanted to go back and fight but it was the Alpha after all. I swallowed my anger, and walked off, not turning back. I stopped, sitting below a tree in the woods. My hands scrambled through the supplies Amy had handed to me. It was enough to last me for a few days, but I had to find another place to go soon. I sighed, putting the supplies back into the bag but suddenly I heard footsteps creeping in. I paused, my hands tightened around the bag. I hadn't gone so far yet, there couldn't be rogues yet? I thought to myself, my hand silently scrambling through the bag to find something to protect myself. My hand landed on a pin, and I smiled, but before I could pull it out, a blade flashed before my eyes.
