Prologue
Rumor has it that Liam Woods is not just a heartless jock. That in fact, deep inside he's a insecure guy with lots of trust issues, just waiting for the right person to awaken the sensitive side of him. But that we could leave to other stories. The ones were the troubled player always falls for the good girl because her innocence and feisty attitude is just so different than any other girl her age. Please, notice the sarcasm. To be honest, Liam has qualities. That doesn't mean it's a good thing though. He is charming and can occasionally show glimpses of intelligence. By occasionally, I mean every time he wants to get laid. Overall, he's just your overly stereotypical high school number one guy. That is, until he met his match (players always meet...). "Hey bro, liked the party yesterday?" Asked James, Liam's best friend. His chiseled jawline and bright brown eyes along with a perfect tan complexion gave him the position of second most wanted guy at school, title he held with pride. "I don't remember anything..." Liam rubbed his forehead, trying to ease the headache from drinking way too much. He should've known better than going to parties at the middle of a week. "That's the good part! You can bang any girl without having to remember them the next day!" The two best friends laughed wholeheartedly, earning some glances from curious bystanders, who secretly wished they were in the same bubble as them. The popular bubble. That's the group of friends (or not) who just "rule" the entire school, with their good looks or money, or whatever reason they have to be so high on the food chain. Which most of times are non-existent. Seriously, it is so overused this "popular" thing that people almost never stop to ask why they are so..."loved", even though most of times people describe them as shallow and arrogant. "What are you laughing at?" Damien, another jock of the group, joined their conversation. He was not so good looking, but had a really built body which impressed girls who liked man with muscles. Well, man with more muscles than brains... "Liam here doesn't remember what he did last night." James explained, tapping his best friend's shoulder. Liam shrugged, not bothering to say a thing. "Oh! So you don't remember when you and Caitlin went to the bathroom?" Damien asked naively. "You two spent a good hour in there, you came out a little wet." Hearing that, Liam restrained the urge to shudder in disgust. James scoffed at Damien, saying he shouldn't have told what their captain did last night. "Oh, so that's why Caitlin sent me a text this morning." Liam sighed. Caitlin was what people like to label as "Queen Bee" of school. She was beautiful, the cheerleader captain and, obviously, a little promiscuous. Liam and her were in a friends with benefits kind of relationship. Lets just say they liked different parts of the agreement, while he liked the "benefits" part, she longed to change the "friends" one. "Man, now she won't leave you alone..." Damien said. Liam glared at him. "Thanks for remiding me that." "Don't be like that, Li. You know maybe all you need is to get with her again. Then you can get past your "issues" with yesterday night." James said, making air quotes. Liam liked him a lot, but sometimes he could be downright crude. "Maybe you get her to open her legs for you by tonight." "Why would someone open their legs to him?" Damien asked. James facepalmed while Liam laughed loudly. "Why would someone open their legs to him?" James mockingly repeated Damiens words, lowering his voice to sound like his partner's. "You're a genius, Einstein." "But...my name is Damien..." Liam laughed again, James facepalmed so hard that one could see his fingerprints on his face. Then, the bell rang, announcing the end of lunch break, making the three jocks groan. Liam rubbed the back of his head, looking at the people entering their classes. A ginger haired girl looked his way and winked at him. Liam smirked, the girl was decent looking, the only problem is that he didn't know if they had already hooked up or not. If they did, he wouldn't go for her too soon. He had this rule regarding relationships, never hook up twice with a girl unless it was good the first. And when the girl was good, he never forgot her face. "Aww, I don't wanna to watch more classes..." James yawned, stretching his arms then putting them behind his head. "Me neither. This period I have Mr. Callaghan..." Said Liam, talking about his Biology teacher. He was an old man, of small stature and always with a scowl on his face. The students liked to call him "Grumpy", like the dwarf from Snow White's movie. He behaved like his movie counterpart as well, but a little less gentle. "Hey, we could skip classes at the soccer field." Damien suggested. Liam and James smiled, liking the idea of skipping classes "This is the first smart thing you say. Let's go." Then the three friends went to the soccer field, taking care to not being seem by anyone. It was something they liked to do alone, just their small group. The field was empty, with only the green grass swaying with the wind, showing that it needed a cut. Liam covered his eyes from the sun, walking with his friends towards the bleachers. They sat under them though, protecting themselves from the heat. "Wanna some?" James offered a cigarette to him. Liam shook his head, pushing James's hand away from him. "You should stop with this. It's no good, man." "Stop being a sissy. This is your last year of high school, live a little." "I want one." Damien stretched his arms to catch a cigar, then lit it and blowed. The smoke hit Liam's nostrils, making him cough. "Who said I didn't live yet? Just because I don't smoke? C'mon Jay, we both know I throw the best parties. Can you do better?" Liam said, annoyed with James. The latter rolled his eyes, but then a mischievious smirk formed on his lips. "You think you're the s**t, don't you?" Liam frowned in confusion. Damien stayed silent, only watching the quarrel. "You think you're the best just because you are captain of the football thing. Oh, and that title of "Best Girl Scorer in High School". Am I wrong?!" Liam opened his mouth, but what came out were unreadable sounds. In short, he didn't know what to say. James loved to tease him and the others, but he was never that mean. Sure, Liam liked his social status at school, he though it was cool how he earned a title for having scored so many girls, and his position as team captain was a dream come true. But he never was "the s**t". He would never admit that to his friends though, his ego wasn't so big but his pride on the other hand... "What if I am? Got a problem with that?" He regreted those words the moment he said them. James arched an eyebrow, a smirk forming on his face. "Then prove it." "How?" "Just do what you do best: "love", make "love" and be gone. Then I'll know you really deserve the spot of "Best Girl Scorer of High School"!" James explained. "Ha! Is that your big dare? Thought you were more creative than that." Liam replied, a bit surprised for James requesting such a simple thing since he was the dare king, nobody made dares more daring than him, and nobody fulfilled as much. "No, it's not all. You have to charm a girl, but I didn't say WHO you are going to date." "And that would be...." "Quinn Taylor." Liam's eyes widened. Was James really serious? Quinn Taylor was a girl that just by hearing her name, one could feel the tension rising up in the air. Not that she was scary, but people were disgusted by her. Liam himself was disgusted by her. Everyday, she would enter school's grounds dressed like a hobo, with her dirty brown hair so messy that it made Hermione Granger's look like soft curls. Not only that, but the girl did everything to stay away from everyone. There was no way he could do that!! "What's up? Are you refusing? Little Liam can't charm the four eyed nerd?"James taunted. Liam glared at him, still wondering if it was really worth the pain. Again, his pride was greater than his mind. "Are you serious? By the end of this week, the nerd will be so head over heels with me that I'll turn her in my personal secretary." "So will you do it?" Damien finally spoke something. Liam rolled his eyes. "Yes, I will do it." He shook hands with James, sealing their dare. Poor souls, they didn't even notice the shadow hiding on the threes. It was small, hair like brush, clothes too big for her body and glasses that barely fit her tiny nose. A glint of anger and sadness dared to cross her heart, her hands were forming fists, hurting her delicate skin, making it bleed. She heard everything. She knew everything. All she wished was to spend some time alone at the field, where no bully would bother her for at least some minutes. However, she just had to hear the conversation of three brainless beings. They just had to be on her spot of peace. Why couldn't people leave her alone? She was so tired of being humiliated over and over again. Then, she realised something. It was her chance. Her time to prove everyone wrong, to turn the tables. If they wanted to make a dare to break her heart, she would have to break theirs instead. She was Quinn Taylor. The girl who would teach Liam Woods a lesson
