The Next Morning

Ara — I woke up with the sun shining on my face. Somehow I had fallen asleep outside on the balcony. I stretched and moved inside to my room to grab a hoodie before heading downstairs to have breakfast with Jen. My foot was still tender and my shoulder ached. Those were the weird reminders of the dream I had last night. I wrapped my foot to help with the pain and manage walking without looking like there was something wrong with me. As I approached the kitchen I could smell pizza. “Hey sleepy head! I made breakfast!” Jen smiled and handed me a plate of reheated pizza. “Thank you, I didn’t know that you were such a gourmet cook,” I laughed as I took a bite of the pizza. Jen laughed with me. “Well, just don’t get used to it, otherwise you might be disappointed when I make cereal, which is my other specialty.” She winked at me and I couldn’t help but laugh more. “So today is our first day working the morning shift together!” Jen said while putting away the dishes. “Yeah, usually I worked the evening shift, is it busier in the morning?” I asked while throwing away the trash. “It’s a coin toss, sometimes it’s super busy and other times it’s deader than the grave.” She replied. “Did you want to walk or drive?” She asked me. “Whichever works for you.” I replied. “Driving it is! Since we’re going to be on our feet all day, we might as well save our energy.” Jen said as she grabbed her keys. In less than ten minutes we were at the diner. Jen pulled into a parking spot in the back of the diner. “It’s better back here, just in case we need a quick get a way,” she laughed. My mouth opened and I wasn’t quite sure what to say, or if she was kidding. “Oh my gosh, you should see your face Ara! I was just joking!” She grabbed her purse and waited for me to join her before heading in together. — Mags — It was nice to see the girls show up this morning together. I had had a really bad feeling last night. I could feel strong magic at play last night. Something inside of me said there was danger coming for Ara. I could feel that she had entered the veil. I had tried to look for her there last night, but something was blocking me, keeping me out. The more I tried to force my mind the more I felt a force keeping me at out. I don’t know what happened but I ended up knocked out cold on the floor. When I woke up this morning I could feel that the danger had passed. I could sense Ara and Jen, so I knew that they were fine, but it was still nice confirming it with my own eyes. I was going to have to be even more vigilant now though, now that she has been to the veil, I’m not sure who or what has sensed her presence. — Kade - Last night was rough, when I got back I wasn’t sure what had happened. I wasn’t even sure if it were real or not. I know it had felt real, but even the bruise on my shoulder had healed. There were no remainders or anything solid to prove that it had actually happened, and it’s not like I could go and ask her.. because if I did there could only be two ways that goes. The first is she freaks out that I’m a wolf.. the second.. she doesn’t know what I’m talking about and she thinks I’m crazy. Neither option sounds good right about now. I took a quick shower and got dressed. Jeans and a black button down shirt. I wanted to look nice, but not like I was trying too hard. We had agreed, to go have breakfast at the diner this morning. I linked Max and John to find out if they were up and ready to head out. Only to find that they were already waiting for me downstairs. I quickly grabbed my keys and sunglasses and ran downstairs. “Kade, you’re finally up man, we’ve been waiting forever! I think I just may die of hunger,” John moaned. “We just got here,” said Max while shaking his head at John. “Besides I doubt John will be starving anytime soon since he already had breakfast.” “I thought we were eating at the diner?” I frowned at John. “I didn’t want to go on an empty stomach, what if there’s a long wait?” He replied. I shook my head and headed out the door. Max and John right behind me. I jumped in my truck and took off as soon as the other two got in, “Mind waiting for a guy to buckle before driving like a mad man?” Complained John. “You’ll live,” I said flippantly. — Ara — Working the morning shift seemed pretty ok so far. I wasn’t that busy but bust enough to get some good tips. Mags seemed a little off when we got here this morning, she came out to meet us before we even made it through the doors. She hugged us both and asked us if anything had happened last night. We assured her we were fine. Neither of us mentioned about the Sam thing at the pizza shop. I figured Jen would tell her if it was something that she felt she needed to know. Which apparently she didn’t need to know. After the first hour it seemed to slow down a lot, there were only a couple of customers in the diner at this point. I asked Mags if I could take a small break, usually I wouldn’t but my ankle was starting to hurt. I told Jen I was taking a ten minute break and I’d be right back. she nodded and went to go drop off a plate of food. — Kade — We pulled up to the diner and I took a deep breath. I could feel she was here. Even though I’m not the nervous type, as a matter of fact, I make other people nervous, but here I was with sweaty hands and I could feel my heart beating slightly faster. John led the way to the diner, followed by Max and I was right behind them. When John chose our table we all sat down and I tried to regulate my emotions. I keep getting so close and somehow I never end up actually talking to her. The only real interactions we have had is when I am in my wolf form. “Oh crap!” Whispered John. I looked in the direction that he was looking and I saw Mags coming straight for our table. “Back again are we?” She said while looking us over. “I thought I made myself clear last time you all were here?” “Hey ma’am, we’re just here for some breakfast. You know three guys just isn’t the best for making a home cooked meal, and you know what they say, breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” John just sat there trying to look pathetic. “That better be all you’re looking for around her,” She waived her pen at us in a threatening manner. As if a pen could take down a full grown wolf, let alone three. “Jen, do you want to come and take their order?” Mags called over to Jen, Perfect Jen is here, now where is Ara.
