Waiting

Kade — Jen came over to take our order after Mags had left. John cleared his throat and tried to make it look like he hadn’t been waiting to see her. She walked over to our table with a smile on her face. I could see her glance at John but he was too busy pretending to look at the menu. “What can I get for you all today?” She asked while pulling out her pad and pen. “Let me guess, black coffee for everyone? Although, I don’t believe that we have ever officially met,” she said while turning to me. “So you may have a different order than your friends.” “No, black coffee sounds great to me as well,” I answered while trying to scan the diner for any trace of Ara. She nodded and then headed back to get our coffees. John then looked up to watch her leave. Max kicked him under the table and shook his head. “You know, you could have the courage to say “hi” and maybe look at her when she is taking our orders,” Max said to John. “I don’t know what you are talking about,” said John kicking Max back. “I was checking out to see if there were anything new added to the menu.” — Mags — I really couldn’t believe those three were back already. I didn’t really didn’t sense anything off with them, as a matter of fact, Max and John have been regulars here since Jen starting working the morning shifts. I could tell that John had a thing for Jen, and seeing as how it’s been a good couple years and he could barely make eye contact with her, I rather liked the guy. But as of late, I’ve been noticing a lot more strange and powerful men coming through town. They may look like average men to most people, but the women in my family could sense when there were those with powerful auras. Especially when there was danger attached to their presence. Their friend, the new guy that has been hanging around ever since he saw Ara, he has a very powerful aura. I can also sense the danger all around him. He doesn’t seem evil, but sometimes evil can be wrapped in very attractive packages. I’m going to be keeping an eye on him until I can find out what he is really after. — Kade — Jen returned rather quickly with our coffees. As she placed all three on the table she kept glancing at John, who was oblivious because all of a sudden he couldn’t peel his eyes away from his phone. “Hey, I just wanted to thank you all for yesterday,” said Jen. “It would have been a lot more trouble if you hadn’t shown up when you did. Not too many people like to get in the way of Sam and his friends.” “Sure, yeah.. it was the least we could do,” I said. I mean I would have preferred to rip his head off.. so I meant it when I said it was the least I could do. “Well coffee is on me today as a thank you anyways,” she glanced at John again. Max nudged John. He glanced up at Jen and she smiled at him. “Thanks,” he said with a nod of the head and then returned to looking at his phone. Her smile faltered a little before she thanked me again and walked to her other table. “You know, there’s playing hard to get, and then there’s being a moron,” said Max. “What would you know about anything, you barely talk to anyone,” said John. “If I liked a girl I would know better than to act like a jerk every time she was around,” Max said. “I’m waiting for my mate, why would I want more drama by having other girls in my life, female wolves territorial.” Max had never talked about finding his mate before. I had always just thought that he was too busy training and had a one track mind. I actually had more respect for him choosing to wait for his mate, even though I’ve seen enough girls throw themselves at him. “I don’t know, I feel something every time Jen is around. I feel electricity in the air, and my heart racing. I feel such a strong pull towards her, but it doesn’t feel like it should if she were my mate.. but than it feels there is some sort of bond pulling me towards her,” said John as he watched her go about her work. I’m not sure if I had ever heard of something like that happening before, you either knew they were or they weren’t. I’ve never heard of some sort of in between before. Maybe it was just infatuation, maybe there was something more to it, but that was going to have to be for John to find out. I had my own troubles just trying to meet my mate. I kept scanning the room hoping she would appear somewhere, we had already been here for thirty minutes and I had yet to see her. I really hope Mags wasn’t keeping her in the office or back rooms again. I do know she is here though, her scent was really strong, almost overpowering to me. It was getting super heard to think of anything more than finding her. — Ara — I know I hadn’t been on shift very long, but my ankle was killing me, I could feel it swelling more, and it was starting to hurt to walk on it. Luckily Mags said I could take a rest and put some ice on it. While I was sitting in the back room I could feel something shift in the air. I couldn’t really explain it other than there was something calling to me. I was considering getting up to go take a look in the dining room, but Mags just walked into the room with me. She looked at me strangely and sat down next to me. “Ara, I’ve known you for a couple of years now.. You know I really do think of both you and Jen as the girls I never had,” she put her hand on my hand. “Now I know you may not feel the same, but I do feel it is my job to give you advice where advice is needed. I just want to let you know, you should always be careful when it comes to strangers. People might seem alright, but you never know, so don’t be too trusting too quickly, and always be safe, listen to your instincts.” I looked at Mags and I could feel tears in my eyes, it felt so nice to be cared for. I haven’t felt that since my parents. I know I was lucky to have my aunt, but she didn’t care the way Mags does. I gave Mags a hug. “Thank you Mags, thank you for caring about me and looking out for me,” I think of you as family too.” Mags wiped away a tear that was falling down my cheek. “Well, no crying Ara,” she gave me one more hug. “And don’t forget, if anyone ever does anything to hurt you, they will have to deal with me.” She got up to leave, but than turned around, “If you’re foot isn’t feeling any better you can rest in here until Jen’s shift is over and then you girls can head home.” “I think I should be fine in a few more minutes,” I said. I wrapped the bandages a little tighter around my ankle to give it a little extra support. Hopefully I can last a few hours on my feet. When I headed for the dining room I was able to manage with a barely noticeable limp. I grabbed something to help with the pain, if only just for a little. As I got closer to the dining room, I could feel the pull growing stronger. —
