Just Missed

Ara — I walked into the dining room and looked around just to see Jen waving goodbye and the front door closing. “How are you feeling now? Is your ankle any better?” Asked Jen. “Yeah, it feels much better after taking a little rest,” I smiled. “Which tables do you need me to take over?” “If you’re feeling up to it you could grab the waters for those two tables,” she pointed at a couple tables near the front. “But don’t push yourself, we don’t want you collapsing.” I grabbed the waters and started taking orders. — Kade — I had finally given up hope and we left. We had to get back to the pack to begin training. All three of us couldn’t be absent for a training time. “You know we should make it the new routine to go grab some coffee in the mornings,” said John. Who was all of a sudden back to his annoyingly talkative self. I nodded, it looks like that might be the only way I might get a chance to see her. I never realized how hard it was trying to get a girl’s attention. “Yeah, sounds good,” I replied. When we got back to the pack we went straight to the training grounds. Most of the warriors were already there waiting for us, with the last stragglers headed over when they saw us coming. “Ok, let’s get this started,” I said. — Ara — It was past the lunch rush and time for Jen and I to get off our shift. Mags waved us off and we finished closing out our last tables so we could head home. “Hey, I need to grab a few things from the store before we head home, do you want me to drop you off first or would you like to come with?” Asked Jen. “Yeah, sounds good, I could use a few things as well,” I smiled and followed Jen to her Jeep. “So guess who came into the diner today?” Asked Jen with a big smile on her face. “Umm, anyone I would know?” Honestly I didn’t know too many people in this town. There would be a few regulars, but no one I could think of that would put that smile on her face. “Remember the pizza shop?” She asked. I nodded my head. I doubted she was talking about that Sam guy or his friends. “Remember the guys that came in just in time and helped us get out of there? John and his friends?” She asked. “Yes, I remember,” I replied to her. I don’t remember much of that day. I remember Sam grabbing my arm, I remember feeling afraid, and then I remember a man with striking blue eyes. “So all three of them showed up this morning for coffee. Usually it’s just John and Max, but they brought their other friend this morning too. The one that made Sam back off.” “I didn’t see them at all,” I said. I was a little disappointed that I missed seeing them. I really would have liked to thank them myself for what they did for us. There was also something really familiar about the one with blue eyes. “What was the other man’s name?” I asked her. Hoping that maybe she would know. “His name is Kade,” she said. “I just got his name this morning.” Kade, I felt a little tug in my heart when I heard his name. I wonder when, or if, I’ll be able to see him again. Since Jen said that usually it’s just the other two that frequent the diner. — Kade — That night I just felt off. I was disappointed that I wasn’t able to see her today. I couldn’t get her out of my thoughts. Wondering if she was alright after what had happened yesterday, and that dream last night. I was going to have a couple of warriors patrolling that area of the woods, but I think I might call them back and just do it myself. I mind linked John to let them know they could have the night off. I would take the shift. When John questioned why, I told him I wanted to keep an eye out for Sam. I shifted into my wolf form and headed out. When I reached the edge of the forest that was facing her room and made myself comfortable, hoping that maybe I would catch a glimpse of her. I was waiting for about twenty minutes when I saw a jeep approaching. I could see that it was Ara and Jen. I wonder where they had been. When Ara got out of the jeep and started walking toward the house I could see that she was slightly limping. I don’t remember her limping yesterday, what could have happened to her? I felt so frustrated that I wasn’t there to make sure she stayed safe. It looks like they had went to the store, they were carrying a few bags of groceries. — Ara — When we got back to the house Jen and I grabbed the groceries and were heading into the house. There was a slight breeze and I felt a presence. I stopped for a second and looked around me. I looked at the forest.. “Hey, are you ok? What are you looking at?” Jen asked me, breaking me from what felt like a trance. “Oh, sorry, I just thought I saw something,” I said turning back to the house. “I hope not, last thing we need is some crazy animal or worse coming out of the woods,” she laughed and linked her arm with mine. “Let’s go put these away.” — Kade — She looked right in my direction, it felt like she could see me. Although I was pretty positive that I was covered enough and there was no way she could. Everything inside of me wanted to approach her. I felt drawn to her. I was just about ready to come out of my hiding spot when Jen started talking about wild animals and then dragged my mate away. I am starting to like Jen a little less everyday. Isn’t it enough that she gets to be with my mate everyday? She also has to make it difficult for me to approach her as well. Always in the way. It was almost dusk, and I saw her light turn on. She walked out on her balcony staring into the forest. She looked otherworldly, her green eyes practically glowing. I wish that she were a wolf so that she would know who I was to her. I wouldn’t have to be hiding right now like a stalker feeling like an i***t who can’t approach his own mate. — Ara — I stood on my balcony looking into the woods. I wonder if any of it were real last night. My ankle told me it was real, and the pain in my shoulder. But there was no way that there were wolves that big out there. There was no mist.. my mom wasn’t out there. I felt a sadness wash over me. I really wish that I could speak with my mom again. Even if it were only in my dreams. My thoughts started to drift to the two wolves. The wolf that protected me. It seemed so real, it seemed that he was more than just a wolf. He seemed as if I knew him. Like he was someone to me. I felt a connection when our eyes met. “I wonder if you were real?” I whispered into the night. There was nothing but silence and then I heard the sound of a wolf howling, it sounded so lonely.
