CHAPTER ONE: HERMES

POV of Ezekiel

#Thaer mountain#

"The wind is your friend dearest student, do not try to fight it." my teacher was smiling at me as I struggled to control the air around me. I cannot seem to understand why I cannot control the air. " But master, how can i control air if- I just can't seem to get it right. It has been weeks and I still can't even lift a leaf." I groaned in frustration, this is really hard. I know that this attribute was going to be hard but I didn't expect it to be this hard.

" Yes it has been a year, I really cannot help you this time dearest student, I have only taught you how to harness energy and let them flow but this is my limitation. I'm afraid you'll have to enroll in the academy after all." he looked innocent but I know for sure that he's still convincing me to attend that school. "Master I-"

"Ezekiel, I was your teacher in martial arts and weaponry since the moment you persisted to wield a sword, but there is only so much that I can do for you; I'm old, the teachers in the academy are exceptional. They're the ones that you need." he was right, I didn't want to see him go but he cannot be with me forever. I guess it was time to go home.

"Thank you master for all your care these past two years, I hope you have a good life as a monk" he only chuckled at my disappointed voice. He wanted to stay in the temple and was futile to refuse when I asked him to come live in my home province. "Ezekiel, child you remember now that the wind is your friend." even though I still cannot fully understand or know how, i still nodded. "Goodbye master."

I left the mountains that was my home for the past two years. At the age of 17, I had received the blessing of the great guardian of Reneia. We Azrians were blessed with three guardians that resided in the Infinite Forest. Each of three kingdom was blessed by their own guardian. We Reneians were blessed with Guardian Renuire, the guardian of the great Sun. At the age of 17 the guardian will bestow upon us his blessings; attributes and majical abilities. The energy that was given to us will awaken and will be given immense power. This power is associated to your personality and needs. I was given air attribute and was able to control and manipulate air and wind. It was difficult and I only learned how to harness energy and still cannot control air only essence flow.

The trip home was two days worth of carriage travelling, four days on foot. I felt happy that after two years, I was finally home. I arrived at the small estate that my family owned. My father was a soldier in the army in the North, where we live. My family settled in the province of Sundi just a little farther from Phoenix City; main city of the north. "Big brother is home!! Oh my- Mom big brother is home! Come see!!" the first person i saw was my little brother barely 10, in pale red clothes. My younger sister who was his twin came out rubbing her eyes. They were so much taller than when I had left. " Older brother!" they both engulfed me with a tight hug.

"I can't believe it, you're finally home. Ezekiel Haru Hermes why didn't you write, huh?!" my mom was lecturing me. She looked much older but still beautiful as always. " I'm sorry mom, where's dad?"

"Aiyaa! Your mother is here but you're always asking for your father, how could you!?" I only chuckled, "Mom you know I love you more , it's just that I am finally ready, I'm going..." "Oh, your father is at his study." she looked sad. I swallowed the lump and anguish inside me and entered the study.

"So you finally come home" he never changed, so cold; makes me wonder what mom saw in him. He was strict and was discreet in showing attention so I had understand. " I had decided I would enter father." Silence was in the air as he looked at my eyes with the same eyes as me, ice blue cold. All of us his children inherited his ice blue eyes, and we had inherited the ebony black raven hair from our mother. "Hmm...well have you made an enrollment form yet? The academy is quite strict with rules, so you'll have to go to the Capital for that matter but you should stay for a couple few days, your mother is excited that you came home." See, even if he did not show direct affection, he uses discreet words for us his children to stay. I figured that he's only using mom as an excuse.

He had always said the same reasons to my older brother who was now a soldier in the capital to stay a few more days every time he came to visit. And speaking about my brother, he was a student in the academy and had Ice Attribute just like his eyes. " Sure father, I'll stay for two days." he only murmured a 'hmm' and i left the study.

Two days later, I left for the Capital and had arrived after four days using a carriage. The capital of the kingdom was much more grander and more colorful and festive than the north. It was a little cold in the north while here was warm. I went to the registration for the academy when a girl in dark blue hunting clothes dashed to my direction. "Hey! MOVE!" but I did not and she landed in my face, " Are you an i***t?! I told you to move!" she screamed as she stood. " This is such a narrow road, why in the first place were you running anyway?!" I answered back and the girl only stared and laughed maniacally at me with disregard that she was a girl, in front of so many people. "So?! First time going to the capital I see, well listen here pretty boy, when somebody asks you to move you move okay, no questions asked" did she just lecture me? This is unbelievable, but before i could say something in rebuttal to her someone shouted behind us and the crazy girl dragged me with her.

As we ran through the busy street, we turned and the people who was previously chasing only her, now are chasing both of us. This crazy girl actually dragged her with me. "Are you nuts?! Why did you drag me!?" I half-screamed at her. "Sorry okay? I panicked and they saw me with you, I actually did you a favor, and stop complaining will you?!" I can't believe it, the nerve of this girl. i was gonna say something but she beat me to it. "My name is Sky, nice to meet you but I can no longer argue with you as I have places to be so for your inconvenience let me give you this, just accept it will yah? Ta-ta pretty boy see you... eventually." Before i could retaliate, the girl was already gone and a small blue pouch was in my palms. She was fast, and since it was getting hotter, I could only leave for this enrollment form to be done.

I had forgotten about the pouch but I thought that I should at least open it. In my surprise I almost dropped it; inside the pouch was a single flower of a thornlily. It was a rare herb used to detoxify deadly poison. They grow in the northern mountains, in the highest mountain in the kingdom. They were hard to find and even harder to grow and care for. Only skilled and knowledgeable healers or leaf attributes can grow this type of herb. It was so precious that no one had ever sold them. Who in the name of Azria was she to be able to get a thornlily? And moreover, why in the world did she gave it to me?! She must be crazy but a treasure as valuable as this should not be wasted, so I put the pouch in a secret compartment in my clothes.

I should get ready for the academy so I'll need to go back home and wait for an acceptance letter. This is it, my chance to become stronger. I walked home and a memory struck me, I smiled sadly. Don't worry my dearest, I will avenge you even if it's the last thing I do.
