Are we meant to be ?

Chapter one

Waking up from a loud bang from the kitchen. I rush out of bed and went to the kitchen to check out what's happening. I saw mom reaching for the cookbook from the top shelf.

"Mom what are you doing there?" I asked mom while rubbing my eyes. "Oh, hi dear. Good morning. I was just trying to reach for the cookbook on top of the shelf" "Let me help you with that. Wouldn't want you to get hurt and why do you need it anyway?"

I reach for the cookbook that mom wrote all by herself with all the recipes of her famous dishes. My mom is Chinese and she loves cooking and gardening. She thinks that a woman should know how to cook at least one good dish so that they can capture the heart and the stomach of the man they love.

"I need to look through it before giving it to you." I look at her with eyes wide open. "Why would you give me your cook book? I don't need it" She looks sad and hurt when she heard what I said."I mean I'm going oversea to study, not to cook.You can give it to me when I'm getting married and I can cook those lovely dished to my future husband" Mom and I laughed when dad came it the kitchen.

"What so funny?" Dad came into the kitchen and grab a mug from the counter and pour himself some coffee. I went to the fridge to grab the milk and the sugar from the shelf. "I was just telling your daughter that a woman should know how to cook for her man" Mom gave dad a kiss on the cheeks before going into the pantry. "What man?My baby girl is still a baby. What cooking does she need to do?" I laughed and dad gave me the look.

My dad is American, he's a very protective and also a very traditional man. He said I can only date guys after I'm 21 and I can't have s*x before I get married. I mean this applies to both me and my younger sister Connie. Connie is 19 years old 5 years younger than me. She always does what she wants and she got a boyfriend when she was 16. Dad was furious when he found out she had a boyfriend but eventually mom convince dad to meet with Connie's boyfriend and found out he was a very nice young man so they allow her to be with him. But once in a while mom will ask whether my sister is still a virgin.

I had a older brother as well Ethan. He is 10 years older than me and he got married to a very lovely wife Cindy, they have three beautiful kids which I adore and loved spoiling. He lives just across my parents house and always come back home to have dinner because mom wants everyone to have dinner together and talk about their day. It was Saturday, mom made breakfast and we all sat together in the dinner room and ate our breakfast.

"So what time is your flight little sis?" Ethan asked while drinking his coffee."Oh yea, you are flying to new york today. How are you feeling?" Cindy was feeding Charlie scramble eggs which was his favorites. "I'm feeling kinda nervous and my flight is in this afternoon 1:30" I didn't feel anything the night before but no they asked. I started to feel all kinds of things in my stomach. Suddenly I don't feel so hungry anymore. I excuse myself and went to my room and check on my luggage. I make sure I packed everything and I even made a list to remind myself to bring everything. I have this habit that I triple check every before I go anywhere or do anything so that I won't forget anything important.

It was around 12 when we reach the airport. I checked in and was waiting for my flight to be called. The whole family was there and also my best friends was there to send me off. Marissa started to cry and hugged me so tight"I will miss you so much and please promise me that you will call me all the time. I want to hear every little details" "Yea, I want to know what hot guys you have met and tell them you have a single friend that needs company" said Bonnie. I laughed and hug both of them so tight, the rest of the gang Danny, Harry and Karen join in the hug. They wish me all the best and gave me a necklace that will remind me of them that they will be there for me always.

Not long till I heard my flight been called. I stand in front of the gate and hug my family members one by one. "Take care yourself and have fun but not too much" said Ethan. "Be careful and make sure call once in awhile" said Cindy. The three little monster was hugging my legs and begging me not to go "Don't go aunt Scar, stay and play with us." I almost cried but I fight back tears and hug each of those little monster."Listen to your mom and dad, don't be naughty and make sure to eat your vegetables. If I hear any complaints that you guys are being naughty, I will call Santa" They all look scared and they know what will happen if I call Santa. "Hey, text me or video call me when you are bored or need someone to talk to. Days will be hard to go by without you always annoying me" said Connie. "You stay good and take care of the family when I'm away" and I whisper in her ear "Use protection" we both laugh so hard and hug each other.

In the corner of my eye, i saw mom crying and dad comforting her. "Mom, don't cry, I will call and I will make sure to be very careful. So don't worry so much" mom stopped crying and hug me with all the strength"You better call and take good care yourself. I can't believe my baby is going overseas by herself without me there" mom started crying again. I let her go and dad stood in front of me and open his hand waiting for me to hug him. "My baby girl is growing up and now she is going to fly solo. Please be care and remember to bring the pepper spray i got you as a farewell gift everywhere you go" I felt tears coming down my cheeks and he wipe away those tears for me and gave my shoulder a light squeeze.

The next thing I know,I was sitting in the plane flying to New York. The flight was long and I start to get annoyed. After twenty hours of boredom, the plane finally reach the airport. It took me two hours to find my luggage and by the time I found it, it was already night time. I was suppose to meet with the two person that rented their apartment for me two hours ago. I hope they are still there waiting for maybe they left. I ran to the gate where I see everyone waiting for their family or friends to come out from the gate. Some are hugging, some are kissing, some are just going crazy and crying when they see their love ones.

I was looking for the two person in the crowd and suddenly I was two person holding a name card which have I name written on it. I went in front of them"You are Sarah and Peter?" Sarah has blonde hair and green eyes, she was tall and she has the most beautiful smile. It was so heart warming when she greet me with ope arms."Come here and give me a hug. You didn't told me you where so adorable and lovable" "Come now my dear, let's give the girl some space. I think the twenty hour flight must be killing her"Hi, nice to finally meet you, I'm Peter and this one here is my fiance Sarah" Peter has brown hair and grey eyes, he was tall and muscular. Couldn't get my mind wrap around the idea that these beautiful people are my landlords and also my friends.

"Is getting pretty late, we should just take you to your apartment now and give a tour tomorrow" said Peter while helping me with me luggage. "You will love the place, we renovated and decorated it a little so you feel a little more homey. It will must be hard to come to a place where nobody knows you and have to leave your family but don't worry. We will be your family from now on" said Sarah linking our arms together and walking me to their car. Peter put my luggage in the back of the car and off we go to the new apartment.
