Edelweiss Academy

Helena I stand outside the outer walls of what looks like an old castle. Ivy creeps up the stones, making the walls appear weathered. I hadn't had any plans to attend the Academy. I wanted to do my own thing out in the world as I had been for years, but alas, the universe had other plans for me. When the high priestess summoned me and beckoned me to attend, I had no choice. The supernatural world consists of three species, each which has its own ruler. I am a witch from a coven that has died out. I am the only one left. However, the Covens all answer to the high priestess chosen by our gods, regardless of our affiliations. A month ago, I was summoned and asked why i hadn't applied. I informed her that I hadn't thought much of it since my coven no longer existed. She insisted that I join the school and rebuild my coven. Much like the wolf packs and vampire clans, witches can be indoctrinated into other covens. However, my particular coven uses an ancient magic that not everyone is compatible with, so there had been just a handful of people for years until we were attached 8 years ago. Since then, it has just been me. I understand her sentiment to rebuild my coven, but this school is simply obnoxious. Everyone swoons over each other or pretends to be friendly just to return to attacking each other as soon as they graduate. The school was established 200 years ago. The Vampire King, Alpha King, and High Priestess at the time were sick of racially based conflicts. They created the school with the purpose of fostering a relationship between the species. It also helped the separate packs, covens, and clans to foster relationships among themselves as well. For the most part, the leaders of each species stay out of their subjects' conflicts unless it risks exposure to humans or threatens the extinction of a species. Several packs, covens and clans have formed alliances, which is everything the founders had hoped for. I disliked the hypocrisy of it all, since many would become good friends while attending here just to slit each others throats later. The idea was nice, but the execution could be better. The first week of school was notorious for its debauchery. It gained the nickname "humping week." Many who had not found their mates within their own communities would find them here. This leads to many students humping each other like bunnies. We were assigned dorm rooms and any who had mates not attending school or had yet to find a mate were assigned roomates. If a pair of mates were both at school, then they would be given their own suits. They must have learned long ago that with the mate bond it would be impossible to keep them off of each other. I entered the school grounds. Many were being dropped off by their parents or mates they were leaving behind while at school. i walked in solitude to the main hall. Once I entered the hall, there were several long tables covered with student information packets and goodie bags with school-logoed paraphernalia. I approached a tall slim woman who's eyes were crimson red, a vampire. "Welcome student. Congratulations on your acceptance into Eldelweiss Academy. May I have your last name?" "Valdis." "Miss Valdis, ah yes, I have your information here. It is noted you are unmated, is that correct?" "Yes Ma'am." "We have your temporary housing arrangement here. I wouldn't get too cozy just yet, as these adjust at the end of the week depending if you find your mate or not. As well as to make sure we are accommodating the newly paired. Your official room assignment will arrive on Friday after class so you will have the weekend to get settled." She pulled a form from the file. "If you do find your mate please fill out this form with your partner so we can process the room change to join you together." "Thank you ma'am. Do you have a map of the grounds?" "Of course." She handed over the information packet. "If you look in the small envelope, it has your room number and a map of where it is located on the grounds. We have also highlighted the mess halls, gym, library, and study rooms. There is a star next to your classrooms. On the back of the map is your class schedule. If you would like to adjust any of your electives, you have the first week to make adjustments. Any questions?" "No, this is well organized. I appreciate it." "Of course! Now here is a swag bag, there are some t-shirts and a hoodie with our school emblem on them that you can wear around campus after hours or on game days. This afternoon you have the fitting for your school uniform. First thing in the a.m. is orientation" "Thank you." I gathered everything that was handed to me and slipped it into my dimensional pocket except for the map with my room information. I arrived early with the hope of missing the crowds and glad I did. As I peered behind me, I saw more people beginning to line up at the tables. I roamed the halls until I found the girls' dormitory wing. There were three dorm wings; girls, boys, and coupled. The couples or gendered may overflow into each other but tend to keep them separate if at all possible. My room was 303. I made my way up the spiral staircase to the third floor. Once I reached room 303, I opened it to a wide 2 bedroom suite. Me and my roommate would have separate rooms but a shared kitchenette and living room. I didn't see a bedroom assignment, so I chose the room to the right. The room came furnished with a queen bed, a dresser, and a desk. As the lady in the lobby suggested, I didn't do much unpacking. I put some underwear, bras and pajamas into my drawers and pulled out my notebooks and school supplies from my dimensional pocket but left the rest packed away. I went to lay down and get some rest after an early morning but didn't get to relax long before there was a knock at the door. I crawled out of bed and ventured to the door. Once i opened it there were several upper classmen standing in the hall. "Hey newby. Party at the lake, all students invited." "Thanks for the invite, but I'd rather not." "Oh come on, don't be a party pooper. We have this party every year, so hopefully the soon-to-be-mated can find their pair before classes start." "That is a good idea except that I have little interest in or drive to find my mate. If they are here, I will meet them when I meet them." "Suite yourself. Let your roommate know when they get in alright?" "Sure thing." They left and knocked on the next door down the hall. I returned to my bed and attempted to relax again before the door opened, revealing who I assumed was my roommate. She was tall, blonde, and had eyes like ice. She must be a vampire as well. You can always tell by their otherworldly eyes. I hopped up to greet her. She pulled along one of several suitcases that were with her. Once she noticed me standing in the doorway of my bedroom, her eyes grew big and a huge smile came across her face. "Ahhhhh! You must be my roomy! I am so excited!" she said, far more chipper than I was in the mood for. She ran over to me and pulled me into a super excited hug. It was a little awkward as she had to have stood a good 5'11" and I am a mere 5'1". i was not prepared for contact. This girl must not have much sense for personal space, but I guess that makes sense for a vampire. " I am Vanessa and i feel we are going to be best friends!" "Uh yah nice to meet you too," I replied as I moved out of her embrace. "Name is Helena." "Well, Helena, I never like to make assumptions, but a witch, yes?" "Yah, and your a vampire?" "Not hard to guess, huh? We can't smell the different species like wolf shifters can. But I cant say I have ever seen a wolf so short, so I made an educated guess about what you were." "Pft. yah, I would look like a child next to a wolf." "True, but the s*x would probably be fun." "OK, past the pleasantries I see." "Sorry, I have no filter." "Dont worry about it. I didn't see room assignments so I grabbed the room to the right if that was OK." "Of course, I prefer the left anyway." "Cool, well, I am exhausted and want to relax for a while, so I am going to lay in bed. Not long ago, some upper classmen came to tell us about some party at the lake. Not my crowd, but I feel as though it would be up your alley." "A party! Let me change!" I crawled back into bed and finally got to relax. I heard Vanessa digging through all her luggage in the other room. About 15 minutes passed and Vanessa called out that she was heading out. I pulled a book i had been reading from my dimensional pocket and lost the day. At some point i must have fallen asleep. I vaguely recall Vanessa stumbling back in sometime in the middle of the night but I didn't get up to check. The next morning was the orientation ceremony.
