The empty room

However, even after spending thirty minutes in the shower and changing into his night robe, he came downstairs to find the dining table exactly as he had left it empty. He was still met with the same silence he had left minutes ago. He clenched his fists and hurried to Sora’s room. But when he opened the door, the eerie silence was obvious enough. He flicked on the lights, only to be met with the same emptiness. The bathroom was empty as well. He unlocked his phone and quickly dialed her number. Sora’s name flashed across the screen. But she didn’t pick up. He tried again still, no answer. He hurried to the master's bedroom, clutching his phone in his hand, his knuckles nearly turning white. He called Zach and asked if she might be in the office, probably in the conference room, working on the files he had given Zach to hand over to her. But Zach’s response was negative. Sora had left at exactly 5:00 p.m., the closing time. Zach informed. Sora had set her phone to Do Not Disturb mood, after finishing her important calls for the day. It had become her new routine, one that allowed her to focus more on herself. The last thing she expected was a call from Kane. However, when she woke up the next morning, as she carried her phone, she saw five missed calls from Kane. She smiled, finally relieved, he had probably signed the divorce and was calling her to inform her about it. Sora didn't hesitate to dial his number the moment she saw his missed calls. She was eager to get things done. With just one ring, Kane picked up the phone. “Where are you?” he asked, his voice hoarse, filled with tension. For a moment, Sora checked the number to confirm if it was really Kane. She was confused and didn’t know what to say. Why was he acting like he just realized she had left? It had already been a week since she left his mansion. And he's calling her to ask her now, meant he was just found out ,she felt a pang of in her chest. “I’m home,” she answered simply, she licked her dry lips, throbbing her hand on her temple. She thought he had called her to come get the divorce certificate but he was saying something entirely different. It was too early for any sorts of arguments. She quickly ended the call and get dressed for the day as she was almost getting late for work. Since It was already Friday, she would use the weekend to talk properly about it with him. Kane was stunned at Sora's attitude. She never hung calls on him,but she did it just now. Her attitude was beginning to irritate him. He convinced himself that she only wanted his attention that was the reason behind the way she had been acting lately. As Sora walked into Brianwoods inc, settling in her seat, she couldn’t find the files Zach had given her. Acting on Instinct, she knew who must have taken them, as she was sure she had locked them in her locker before leaving. The only person with the employees’ spare keys was the CEO, Kane. Relief washed over her when the telephone on her desk rang, and she answered it. Kane had called her to his office, and though his timing felt almost perfect, it left her nervous. Her mind raced ,had she mistakenly left the files on her desk? Had Kane seen them and taken them? Either way, going to his office now would reveal the truth. “Good morning, Mr. Kane,” Sora greeted, her tone professional, carrying no trace of warmth or attraction whatsoever. Kane wanted to bring up what had happened last night. He has questions to ask her but with a meeting scheduled in just a few minutes, he decided against it. Since the weekend was already approaching, he thought they could talk about it then. He didn't know where she slept and he wouldn't just let that go. Kane, pursued his lips, his deep socket eyes bore into Sora's. To Kane, Sora must have slept in grandma's house. That was the only place he could think of, because she has done that severely whenever he ignored her. Usually, she would run off to his grandmother in tears, and then Grandma would call to scold him. But what baffled him this time was the silence,no call from Grandma, no reprimand. That was why he chose not to bring it up, at least for the moment. Grandma might be too upset with him, that's why she purposely refused to call him. He knew how dear Sora was to Grandma. For a moment, he thought of calling her later in the day. Either way, since Sora was surely with Grandma, he decided to take things slowly. He was convinced she wouldn’t spend the night anywhere else. The files,he asked after clearing his throat. “Why didn’t you work on them as I asked yesterday?” He raised a brow, elbows resting on the table as he addressed Sora. His voice was stern and deep, and through it all, his eyes never left hers. Zachary showed up with the files, just as closing time approached. She responded simply, her voice calm and steady. He arched a brow, hardly believing his ears. If it had been before, Sora would have apologized and asked for the files back, but now, she didn’t even bother to explain. She only threw words at him,it was left for him to know she couldn't work over time. Her answer rubbed his face, but he didn't say a word further. He believed she was only seeking his attention and would come around soon. she couldn’t bear to be far from him. With that thought, he dismissed her and turned to arrange his meeting. She was waiting for him to talk about the document, but he had dismissed her What Sora didn't know was Kane never opened the envelope she gave Mrs Caterina to give him. After Mrs Caterina gave Kane the envelope, he reluctantly dropped it on the dining table.
