“Not much people asked for an upgrade because they could do as much as they want just for being a dreamlord,” he said and glanced at Peter. “You’re one of the few who asked.”
Wiboe guided him inside the kingdom, the place so familiar from the last time he got there. Although there were little changes compared to what he remembered, he still was familiar with the place.
“In your case, you’re on the junior-level dreamlord. Your power might be stronger than normal junior-level dreamlord and you might be qualified as intermediary dreamlord, but you need confirmation from high-level dreamlords for you to be an official intermediary dreamlord. Upgrading your dreamlord power to intermediate level, you need to pass through the four-element test, and your evaluation will be processed,” Wiboe said.
He guided Peter to some streets, just between tall castles of a dream kingdom. Compared to the inside of each of the castles, the streets and alleyway there were less crowded. Few people and dream goblins passed by to get to their destinations.
“The one you mentioned, the skills to see if one is a dreamlord, that’s not something you get with powers of being a dreamlord,” Wiboe said.
Peter realized he wasn’t talking for a while. He cleared his throat. “How do I get that skill, then?” he asked. “Do I need to acquire some kind of tools or something?”
Wiboe chuckled and nodded. “Exactly.”
“For real?” Peter asked. Wiboe just nodded. Next thing he knew, he was in front of a large dome-like infrastructure that looked like one from the real world. “Woah, what is this place?”
“This place is the Great Pavilion. Initiations, exclusive duels, evaluations happen here,” Wiboe explained. There was a green sphere jelly that was attached just by the dream goblin’s reach, and Peter was surprised to see Wiboe open its small hand and pushed it inside the sphere jelly and made a sound as if he abruptly dipped his hand in the water.
Peter grimaced as he watched, and waited until he saw the sphere jelly shine a neon color. Wiboe took his hand off of the sphere jelly to reveal that it was dry as it was earlier.
The door opened on its own. “Follow me,” Wiboe said and Peter obeyed him. When they were both inside the establishment, the door closed on its own. “Wibbie?” Wiboe called.
Suddenly, something jumped from the hole on the ground. A dream goblin the size of Wiboe appeared in a red jumpsuit, and he looked quite a little younger. The dream goblin which Peter assumed was Wibbie, snapped his fingers and something came from a side. A scroll.
“This is Wibbie, my twin brother. He might be younger-looking than me, but I’m just a few seconds older than him. He’s the evaluator,” Wiboe said.
Peter nodded. “Am I gonna get evaluated here?” he asked.
Wiboe nodded. “Yeah. So prepare yourself for your evaluation.”
Peter started to stretch his arms and hands. “Okay. Let’s get this done with,” he said.
The twin brother, Wibbie, laughed a little. “I like this one,” he said. “I must tell you this before we go. You just need to show how powerful you are by each of the four elements; fire, water, air, and earth. One, create a fire, the largest fire you can create. Two, create a pole of water. The taller, the better. Three, control the paper that I will provide you later, the higher it reaches, the better. Lastly, the earth. Easy. Shake the ground of this place. There is water by the wall. Make it reach its highest point,” Wibbie said.
Wiboe started walking to aside, on a levitating chair. “Good luck,” he cheered.
Well, Peter didn’t expect it to be that challenging. But he was sure he could do it.
“Your points for each element you do, it will be added together. The resulting score will determine if you’re qualified as an intermediary dreamlord,” Wibbie said and nodded, the scrolling opening on its own revealing a gold glow. “Don’t mind this thing. Your scores will be recorded here.”
He prepared for the first challenge. Fire. Tapping all capacity of his dreamlord power. He opened his hands and pushed it in front of him. He gestured as if shaping fire, and when he opened his arms dramatically, the fire grew taller than him.
The fire slowly shrunk until it was gone. Wibbie smiled at him. “That’s not worse than I expected,” he commented and took a golden ink pen. Writing something on the scroll. “Next, water. This is the easiest, so make sure you give it your all.”
Peter nodded and sighed, closing his eyes as he concentrated once more. He slowly gestured his hands to form the water pole, and when he reached his limits, he opened his eyes and saw it was taller than the fire that he made. It almost reached the roof, but not too close.
The water pole fell in a splash, but it never drenched anyone. “Okay, that’s good, too.”
Peter continued without being told. He concentrated his powers and controlled the paper Wibbie provided him, and it reached just the height of the fire that he made earlier. He then proceeded with the earth, and out of the four, it was the only element that he perfected.
Wibbie rolled the scroll back and threw it to a side, perfectly inside a bottle. It was closed with a cork and was brought underground. “Wow, the last one is quite surprising. I must tell, I haven’t been impressed in a while. I think I should congratulate you for now,” he said and waled to him, Wiboe just jumped off of the levitating chair. “Wiboe will visit you on dream space once you get the approval from the council.”
“How long will it take?” Peter asked.
“Depends. But it will take no more than five years. It might be shorter in your case because you’ve got good scores. Wiboe will reach out to you when the result is out,” Wibbie said,
After the evaluation, Wiboe guided him to another place.
“There’s this woman I met somehow. I entered her dream but I found it hard to control her dreams. There was even a moment that I couldn’t create anything in her dream. We met the next day, and I tried a soul-summoning trick. It never worked as well. I have a hunch that she could be dreamlord, too,” he said.
“Could be,” Wiboe said. “Is that why you want something you could use to determine if she’s a dreamlord?”
Peter nodded.
“I think I know what I should give you,” Wiboe said.
They arrived in front of a small antique-looking shop, in a remote location behind the dream kingdom. They entered the shop, and they were welcomed with random things that either had a unique glow or design. Wiboe walked until he reached the counter.
Another goblin, as fat as an obese pig, was behind a wooden counter. Since the goblins were smaller than Peter, he could peek over the waist-height counter and see the random things hidden behind. “He’s a registered merchant here on dream kingdom. They acquire materials in exchange for gold bits. Sometimes, other deals but most of the deal was to recruit more dreamlords.”
“Do you have dream stones?” Wiboe asked.
The fat goblin grinned and nodded. He took something under the counter and he placed it on top of the counter. There, a small bean-like crystal that had a yellow inner glow shined like the star up the dark sky. The dream goblin took something from its pocket.
A small gold piece. The merchant studied it carefully then nodded before pushing the dream stone close to the dream goblin.
He then turned to Peter to show it to him. “This is dream stones. It only works for dreamlords to contain. This can be used to measure the power of the will and spirit of a person. Whether that person is an ordinary person or a powerful one. Test someone by projecting scenes on their dream. If it glowed bright green, that person is just normal. Blue if that person has average power. That person might have inherited it from an ancestor or that person was just gifted. Red, if that person is powerful enough to be a dreamlord.”
“But you must remember, you can’t bring this in the real world. If you place it on your chest, you own it,” he added.
Wiboe stretched its short arm to give the stone. But when Peter was about to reach for it, the goblin pulled its arm back and smiled at him. “Not that easy.”
Peter wasn’t pleased. “What? Do I need to do something else to get that?”
Wiboe smiled. “I easily made you a dream lord before. That’s the only way dream goblins live. We are made as a servant for that only purpose. It wasn’t that bad, because when we make someone worthy a dream lord, we get a reward for it,” he explained. “You saw me pay this merchant a piece of gold for a dream stone, so you can’t just take it for free.”
Peter now understood how everything worked.
So that’s how recruitment of more dream lord fit the frame, he thought, but wonder why they needed more dreamlords.
They sounded like they were obsessed with getting recruit tons of dreamlords.
Peter only nodded and accepted the challenge. “Okay, I’ll recruit more dream lord.”
