65 Peter’s Lack Of Option

1525 Words
As far as Peter remembered, now that his car’s engine had been turned off—or should he say, the car engine turned off by itself—and he could notice everything, although he wasn’t sure if “everything” was all darkness.   The town was filled with darkness. He just noticed but there were no streetlights or other lamps on the street and houses were only covered with darkness. Basically, he couldn’t see anything with light.   Flashing the light of his torchlight around, he quickly unbuckled the dog from the seat belt and opened the door. The dog ran out of the car at great speed that he was sure it would be able to escape the town or at least hide without getting attached by the shadow monster.   He didn’t have time to care for the dog because he was facing his own problem. He walked out of the car as well, but shadow monsters were right before him to he flashed his torchlight towards them until they leave him. But just as he expected, the shadow monsters moved aside, away from the touch of his torchlight.   He would occasionally turn around to dispel other shadow monsters that trail behind him. Thinking about the shadow monster attacking him from behind filled his mind, so to lift his anxiousness, he thought of a good idea.   He walked away from the car and held the torchlight over his head, facing upside down, the light flashing at him from the top like a spotlight. He almost grinned at his bright idea but he thought it was not the time to do so, so he proceeded walking to at least find the way back to the mansion.   Now that he thought of it, as he remembered, the mansion was the only house he had seen in the town that had light. He wasn’t sure if the Lee family had the privilege to have electricity to light their house or the town was just neglected that it couldn’t afford to light the whole place.   Whichever and whatever it was, again, it was not the perfect time for him to think of that problem.   As Peter walked by, the shadow monsters gave way at every step he took. Somehow, he found it a little impressive. It was like, the kingdom’s people were giving way to the walking king. Only that he didn’t like to be swarmed by shadow monsters.   He could hear them growling in a very silent manner and almost similar to those few good zombie movies he watched. Some shadow monsters stepped closer to him but he quickly flashed them with his torchlight and then brought it back over his head. “Don’t you dare,” he warned them. “How long will this road take?” he asked himself and somehow without the sun at the sky, he felt cold.   He looked around and shook his head. “If Josh was here, he’s probably pissed himself,” he said, dissing his deceased friend. “God, I miss him,” he said and hoped he would still be sane before he reached the mansion. “Out of us four, it’s Zack who would die quickly,” he laughed at himself. Well, it was better than dissing his deceased friend.   Now that he looked at the houses as he passed by, the town had turned to a ghost town at night.   The town was small and had few houses, but he couldn’t see a single soul aside from the shadow monsters. “Where did the locals go?” he wondered. The houses looked like they were lived by people but he couldn’t see anyone.   It was almost deserted. So suddenly, he should say.   Few houses from him, he found a car parked outside a house. He nodded at himself and planned to look if the car would work. He didn’t want to rush or else he would accidentally bump into some shadow monster and he was afraid that even at a brief contact, the shadow monsters could get into his body. Which was, the last thing he ever wanted.   Finally, he reached the car. It was an older model of the same brand as his car. While shining the torchlight over his head and with his free hand, he tried to pull the car door open. Fortunately, it was opened.   He quickly slid inside still shining the torchlight over his head and with one hand, he checked if everything was working. The key was on the top of the dashboard so if it worked, then it would be a sweet escape for him. But to his horror, the car’s gas was emptied out. “f**k!” He punched the steering wheel in frustration.   He had no choice but to get out of the car or else the shadow monsters would do something to him inside the car. Because they were capable of lifting a car, just like they did earlier.   He stepped out of the car and when the shadow monsters were again, right at his face, he flashed the torchlight at them in annoyance before he shined it back on him.   He continued on his way and his feet somehow brought him to where David was.   Just like when he left him, he was just standing there as if he was a zombie. “The shadow monsters must’ve possessed on him,” he said and he was right when he saw that the shadow monsters were slowly, one by one, entering his body.   Peter briefly flashed the torchlight at him to dispel the shadow monsters because it was the last thing he could do. He hoped that the light could at least have a fatal effect on them like it could dissolve them or something that was identical to killing them.   But it was too late because a lot of shadow monsters had attached to his body.   Suddenly, David looked at him with red eyes. He was surprised and it only confirmed that he was not normal anymore.   Next thing he knew, David was now approaching him. He stepped back and he turned around to run away from him, not letting the torchlight away from over him.   He ran where his feet led him to as he panted. “Freaking shadow monsters. Emma, I’m gonna kill you,” he swore with despise.   What happened next made him shriek like he was a girl in a horror movie. His backpack was pulled by something behind him, causing him to fall backward on his bum.   Before the torchlight could slip off of his hand, he gripped it tight and shined it over him. He looked up and saw David with his sinister smile. Peter’s eyes widened and he quickly turned around to shine the flashlight at David.   David screamed as he covered his face with his arms and Peter took that chance to stand and run away, shining the torchlight over his head. While running, he touched his backpack to feel if the book was still inside.   He sighed in relief when he could still feel the book in his backpack. He knew something could be more dangerous once the Book of Dimensions got in the hands of those shadow monsters.   At that time, even hiding was out of his options. The shadow monsters were too many and they were at every corner of the town. His only choice was to run away.   He could hear someone running behind him and he already knew it was David catching up. He laughed as he ran, thinking he had no choice but to face David in the end.   He halted and turned around, David and the shadow monsters right in front of him. “I guess we don’t have no chance but have this mano-a-mano,” he sighed not forgetting the torchlight over his head. He was actually getting tired of it that he needed to put the torchlight on his other hand. “If this is really what you want,” he said. “I’ll give it to you.”   David only gave him a sinister grin and started walking around, facing Peter.   Peter didn’t let David out of his sight, so he matched his walk and never let him get behind him. He took something from his pants. A pocketknife. If David would put up a menace and decided to attack him, that would leave him no choice but to kill him. Or at least hurt him so he would stop attacking him.   “I need to go back to the mansion, David,” Peter said although he believed David wouldn’t even understand since he was controlled by numerous of shadow monsters in his body.   David didn’t speak and gave him the same sinister grin. It was creepier the longer it stayed on his face.   Suddenly, David came to a stop he was just standing there with his red flaring eyes and his grin. “What now?” Peter asked.   Then, David sprinted to Peter and he was caught in surprise because he didn’t think David would really do it.   Since his other hand was holding the torchlight, he only had one hand to use. He gripped tightly at the torchlight, the other hand, he gripped hard at the knife.   When David jumped at him, he stabbed him in the abdomen, but David couldn’t seem to be affected by it that while screaming from the burning effect of the light, he was on top of Peter and started choking him.   At that moment, Peter knew he had no other choice but to kill David.
