72 Peter’s Mantra

1468 Words
The three almost forgot how to start with the summoning, but the familiarity of the feeling was still there as well as their ability to speak and read Orrinatta language. The three confirmed it when they opened and peeked onto the pages of the book.   Like last time he opened it, Peter knew he still could read it, so he didn’t give much thought to it. Looking at the two, it seemed like the two wanted to confirm if they still could.   Through their years of not summoning, they must admit, the two felt a strange lack for summoning like it was a natural habit for them to summon. But that was not that for Peter. As much as he could, he didn’t want to get his hands on the book again. It was just that situations such as what they were facing right now pushed him to do so.   Peter closed the book and look at the two. “Okay, our goal is to get the heck out of here. So we should prioritize things that we needed to fight the shadow monsters,” he said. “Do you want to continue this?” he asked the two. “Or do you want me to summon alone?”   He asked that because he thought the two probably didn’t want to summon like him. But he knew he needed to summon to get something that could help them because he didn’t know what could the shadow monsters do. Based on what they experienced earlier, it didn’t look like the shadow monsters would wait for sunrise.   “Let’s discuss first. Even if we want to get help from the book, it’s not like it’s easy-peasy. We’ve failed quite a lot of times before. Josh even nearly died from staying as stone,” Ray said and looked at the direction of Josh’s casket. “Damn, I didn’t know Josh would still die after that,” there was hatred in his voice, to whoever killed Josh.   And Peter understood because he felt the same. If there was a reason he kept summoning three years ago, everyone knew it was because of Josh. It was to save him. And now that they came because Josh was dead, it felt like his efforts were wasted. That’s why he swore that whoever it was behind all this, he wouldn’t let it slide.   “Okay, I’m in,” Zack easily turned himself in, even flicked his finger at the book to pertain what he was saying. “I also want to get out of here already,” he said.   That would leave Ray no choice since he wouldn’t let the two summon without him.   If people would watch them, they would see how they individually contribute to decision making. Peter uses logic, Zack, most of the time, become the second to agree. It will make the next person agree as well. Ray, just like Peter sometimes, will be left with no other choice because the two didn’t want to let their friends be in danger. A sense of responsibility, as one would say.   Peter sighed in relief because he didn’t need to summon alone. He was hopeful for the two to summon with him because he wasn’t sure if he could do it alone at this time. Because he admitted, it was better to do it with someone else.   He sighed and nodded. “Okay. But let us discuss first our plan. We can’t just start summoning,” he said and looked at everyone else a few meters from them. “Besides, we’re not the only ones here. As far as I know. Benedict was the only one open to the idea of magic,”   Zack chuckled. “Are you sure? I don’t think so. If they are too bothered by magic, they should’ve pestered you about those things in your hand earlier, don’t you think?” he asked.   Peter nodded a little when he thought Zack made sense. “Okay, then let’s just think of what to summon.”   “What about sphinx? We can ask the sphinx if we’ll be able to escape this and we can also ask what we can do,” Zack said, forehead creased as he thought hard. “We can also summon the demigod and make a deal with them in exchange for saving us from the shadow monsters,” he added.   Peter grimaced at hearing the familiar names of the creatures. “I don’t think we should summon something that we need to make a deal with. What if we failed doing the deal, then we’ll be done for,” he said. “Besides, we didn’t have a good memory of sphinx. Don’t you remember? I almost got eaten by the sphinx. If we’ll summon a sphinx, what if it was the one we last saw three years ago? If he recognized me, he won’t hesitate and eat me right away for what we’ve done.”   He looked at everyone else now looking at them, curious about what they were discussing. “And can’t you see? We’re not the only ones here. They will lose their s**t if they see a gigantic creature inside the lobby.”   The three nodded at the sense of his words.   “Then what do you think we can summon then? If it’s not a creature, then what is there to summon?” Ray asked which made Peter grin. Ray was confused at his reaction. “What? Do you have any idea?”   Peter was thinking that instead of intellectual creatures, they should summon others that could help them. He didn’t want to get killed because of the creatures before the people behind the attack could even decide to show up. He would rather face those who were behind all these things than to deal with creatures.   “Before I went there, I peeked at the book,” Peter said. The two didn’t say anything about it. “I shuffled through the pages of the book and I noticed things we haven’t back then.”   “Like what?” Zack asked impatiently.   Peter only glanced at Zack and looked down on the book. “There is actually another thing from this. We’ve seen the mantras that we can use to summon creatures, right?” he asked.   The two nodded. “And I’ve seen more than just those that we didn’t notice.”   “Stop saying things over and over, just tell us what t is!” Zack demanded.   “Okay, okay,” Peter said, trying to tell Zack to calm down. “So, the thing is, there’s a World named Atlanchi. Based on the mantra, it’s like a world of objects. Could be normal objects or other things,” he said.   The two nodded, impressed by Peter’s idea. “Okay, then. Let’s do that,” Ray said. “I’ll summon first, as usual,” he grinned at the memory when they summoned for the first time.   “I’ve come up with a mantra, do you want to use it?” Peter asked Ray.   “Sure, mantra for what, though? What object will that be?” Ray asked. He was ready for anything, but he hoped at least for a weapon to summon.   Peter smiled. “I know this might suit you,” he started. “It’s a sword with its own consciousness. The sword can control yourself. And if you successfully hold its grip, you will be the owner of the sword. You don’t need a sword skill. The sword will guide you.”   Ray gasped and grinned. It was his thing. “Wow, sign me up!” he excitedly said and Peter didn’t see this side of him.   “Okay, here,” he said and flipped through the page where he had written the mantra.   Ray nodded and got ready.   The three have space in the lobby, so they didn’t need to separate themselves from everyone.   He focused his spiritual energy and formed a basic circle. When he was done, a familiar circle in white light shined under his feet. Everyone looked in their direction and was in awe and surprise. They were scared at whatever the three was doing, so they stayed where they were and never tried to interrupt.   Ray held the book in both of his hands and started reading the mantra.   An object from the Atlanchi world; A mighty sword of its own majestic skills; I’ll lend you my hands and let them be sensible. In my name, Ray Gavinson, I summon you into this world!   A familiar whirl of wind swirled inside the circle that sent their hairs and clothes flying. Peter and Zack stepped away to give space for Ray and the object he summoned. And then, a familiar cloud of the portal appeared at the center of the circle, revealing a silver sword.   Ray, who was amazed, walked to the sword and tried to grasp its handle but his eyes widened when the sword swung on its own, almost cutting his hand.   “Woah, be careful! I told you it has its own consciousness!” Peter said.   “Yeah, I know! But I didn’t know it would be this dangerous,” Ray said. He sighed and slowly tried again, this time, he was extra alert. He tried to reach the handle again but the sword swung once more, this time making a small cut on his arm. Ray winced in pain.   Peter sighed. “This is gonna be a long day.
