71 Summoning

Just after Peter said those words, the light turned back on, bringing brightness to the earlier dark lobby room. Once again, the mansion was protected by the light inside.   Peter watched as the shadow monsters left the lobby, growling fiercely at the touch of the light. As the brightness of the fluorescent light filled the room, they noticed how messy the room had become.   Everyone was relieved when the light was back. “Finally,” Linda said and relaxed her tensed shoulder, quickly turning off the torchlight of her phone.   They started leaving their places to go back to their chairs, but Peter was thinking of anything else. “Guys, you probably saw what happened, right? We almost died,” he reminded them, the bluish ring was not on his palms anymore. He hoped no one else would bring up about the magic he had done. If someone would, he hoped at least he would make a perfect excuse.   If there was one thing he would be thankful for, it was his eagerness to learn how to do magic. He knew a day like this could happen, so he thought learning the magic that was not part of him being a dreamlord could be helpful. And it paid him off at least, being able to save these people along with him.   “What can we do now? Should we leave?” one of the attendees asked.   Peter shook his head. “No, we should stay here. We’re safe because of the light in the mansion now that it’s back. You don’t know how much more they were, outside,” he said, his energy drained from using magic. He took the chocolate he got from the gas station on his way to the town as a freebie and popped it in his mouth to restore his sugar level, at least.   He thought hard before he continued. “What we can do now is stay awake and until sunrise comes. And we shouldn’t take the light and electricity for granted. Charge your phones, torch lights. If you need to change the batteries, change it,” he said and took his own torchlight. It still new from earlier and he estimated it could last until the next time he needed it, so he didn’t ask for one.   “Jenny, take the new boxes of batteries from the living room and give out to everyone who needed,” he heard Mr. Benedict instruct the housemaid. The old man smiled at him when their eyes met, Peter nodded with a smile.   Zack and Ray walked to him. “Dude, are you sure about what you said?” Zack asked.   He turned to the two as he looked up since the two were standing and he was now seated on a chair. He was a little dizzy, but he knew he would regain his energy later. “Didn’t I tell it clearly? I said it’s my theory. I’m not sure about it but I bet a finger on it. My hunch and guts tell me that I could be right.”   “Damn, if you’re right, then we should be more careful now,” Ray as he looked at the crowd who was feeling down and tired from what happened. He looked down at the floor and grimaced. “But first, what do we do with these bodies?”   Peter looked around and saw the floor where unconscious people lied. He almost forgot about them. He sighed. “We should tie them up in one place. They’re unconscious but they still have shadow monsters hiding on their body,” he said. Remembering David.   He had no idea how to dispel shadow monsters from their bodies and he wasn’t even sure if they could be removed the moment they enter a body.   “I’ll ask for ropes,” Linda said, who surprised the two. She just came, so she must have heard about the bodies only. They all nodded at her.   Ray pursed his lips and opened his mouth to speak again. “But where do we put them?” he asked.   “I might as Benedict if there’s a big place to place them in,” he said and stood up as he walked to Benedict who seemed to be troubled about something. “Hey, Ben,” he tapped the old man’s shoulder and smiled when he looked up at him.   “Peter,” he called him. “I can’t stop thinking about what happened earlier,” he said.   Peter patted his shoulder to calm him down. “It’s okay, we’re alright now,” he said but the old man only chuckled, which made the younger feel confused. “What’s wrong?”   Benedict shook his head. “Nothing. I’m okay. What I mean is, I can’t believe those things coming from your hand,” he said. “My grandfather, he once showed me magic before. He was a sorcerer,” he said.   Peter didn’t know what to say. Yet, he chuckled. “I’m glad you’re not scared about it,” he said.   “I’m curious. How did you get that skill?” he asked him. “I’ve always wondered about supernatural and magical powers. I’m open to those things and it never fails to amaze me. Before earlier, the last time I saw someone do magic was when I was around twelve when my grandfather showed me a trick before he passed away,” he said.   Peter nodded in understanding. “Yeah, it’s quite amazing. But I learned magic spells recently. I don’t know how to tell you all the details, but, yeah, I just ended up using it today." It surprised Peter at how he said it casually.   The old man only nodded back. “I won’t ask you anymore. But I should thank you for saving us,” he said.   Peter chuckled. “Nah, don’t mention it,” he said. “But Ben, I actually came here to ask you where we can put those people,” Peter said, pointing at the unconscious locals. “We don’t know what they might do when they wake up, so we’re thinking of tying them up together in one room and lock them there.”   Benedict looked at the locals, some he could recognize. His face showed sadness. “Please be gentle with them, although they are possessed, they are still my neighbors,” he said as he held onto the forearm of Peter.   Peter contemplated his request but only smiled and nodded. He wasn’t that heartless and he fully understood the old man. “I’ll take care of them.”   “You can put them at the pantry. There’s nothing much there, and it’s quite a little spacious. It would be enough to put everyone there,” he said.   Peter nodded once more and patted the old man’s back before he left him, walking back towards Zack and Ray. “Pantry. Ben said we can put them there. He also requested us to be gentle with them,”   The two understood and nodded. “I don’t think I have enough energy to pick them up and help you. Can you two pick them up instead and I’ll just walk with you?”   Ray nodded. “Sure. You can just tie some of them,” he said.   Two more men from the attendees, which were both friends of Josh, came to them to help. One was named Hans and one was Kevin who seemed to just quietly get along. Not that there was something for them to talk about, since they all preferred to work without talking.   Peter decided to just tie them up by a group of five, so there would be less rope to use. He also made sure the rope was slightly loose so they could escape when they needed it. Besides, they’ll lock everyone in the pantry so that enough was safe to keep them from attacking them. If the situation got better, they could just leave and escape.   “How much more is left there?” Peter asked as he tied the sixth group. “Are there still many?” he added without looking up.   “There’s still nine, I think? Zack, Kevin, and the other guy were taking them,” he grunted as he carefully placed down another body. “It’s quite astonishing they’re still unconscious,” he commented.   Peter chuckled. “I could only feel thankful about that,” he said.   Soon, the four guys worked together to put the rest of the unconsciously possessed locals inside the pantry. Finishing it off, Peter was the one who locked the door.   A thought filled his mind again as they walked back to the lobby. “I’m thinking of something,” he said suddenly, earning a glance from the two.   “What is it, Peter? Do you have a plan in mind? You’re good at making plans,” Ray said and Zack only nodded to agree.   Peter hummed. “I have the book, right?” he started to think before thinking deeply about it again.   He was hesitating since he didn’t know what would happen to them if they chose to summon again. But with their current situation, he might have no choice.   “I’m thinking of summoning again,” he said and added to correct himself. “We should summon.”   The two didn’t speak yet and were on separate thoughts. “Isn’t it too dangerous? Other people are here. Besides, last time, we almost failed saving Josh,” Ray asked.   “We can summon again, though,” Zack said. The two looked at him.   “You guys probably saw how the magic I used affected the shadow monsters. They might look not that scared, but I’m sure they might be terrified of any strong forms of magic,” he said.   The two looked at him and wait for him to finally decide. They knew he knew better plans, so they wait for him to make a decision.   Peter grinned. “Especially if it’s the power of the Book of Dimensions.”
