7 A failed summoning?

As he warned the three, he prepared the remaining flour on the flour box in case it would successfully slip off.   “What now?” Josh asked Zack.   Zack stared at the goblin. “I was hoping for an obedient one, but this clearly isn’t what I was looking for.”   “Should we just set it free? Should we kill it or what?” Ray asked Zack. Peter grimaced at the thought of the green goblin’s innards scattered around with its slimy green blood. Obviously not a sight for any of them.   Zack thought for a moment while he stared at the now calmed goblin. “I should just send it back to its world.”   Just as Zack said, the goblin’s foot slipped off of the rope and the goblin shrieked in pain when it fell on the floor with a thump.   The four scattered inside the basement out of panic. Josh guarded the way to the staircase because if it was out to the villa, it could be a huge problem.   “Stand your guard! Stay alert!” Zack yelled.   The goblin looked at them and before it could even go to its invisible camouflage, Peter was quick. He spilled the flour over the goblin which made them easily locate it while invisible.   Ray jumped to catch the goblin but it was fast to dodge and run toward Josh.   Josh kicked it and since it was little, it was thrown toward the wall and hit the wall. It whimpered in pain and appeared to its normal appearance, still coated with flour.   With Zack, Josh and Peter approaching, the green goblin was surprised and ran around. The chasing continued.   Ray quickly took the rope. He glanced at Josh. “Josh, keep guard. If it approaches you, kick it like you did,” he said and quickly approached the green goblin.   However, just like earlier, Ray failed to catch it because it jumped over his shoulder. He didn’t even feel a weight on his shoulder. “Bastard!” Ray yelled in annoyance.   Zack walked to Ray and took the rope from him.   Peter was now chasing the green goblin, who was about to run to the opened rooms inside the basement. “How do I catch this thing?” Peter screamed in annoyance and he was about to agree to himself to just kill the thing when it would enter the weapons room.   Peter’s eyes widened when he grasped its arm but somehow its skin became slippery. Disgusted, Peter let go of the goblin and looked at his hand which weirdly didn’t have any slime.   “Why did you let go?” Ray asked.   “Hold that thing and tell me again if you still want to hold that,” Peter was slowly losing his temper.   Zack finally got a hold of the goblin. Unlike Peter, Zack endured the slimy feeling and pinned the goblin down by holding to its neck.   They held the goblin with the rope while Zack forcefully took the golden ring from the goblin. No way he would let the goblin keep it. It could probably worth thousands of dollars.   “It do really feel slimy,” Zack grunted while holding the protesting goblin down.   Raged, the goblin started to ramble random pleading and cursing protests in Orrinatta language, which they understood like the book.   “We won’t kill you, so stop moving around,” Zack replied in the Orrinatta language. The three weren’t surprised. They understood the language without studying it, speaking wouldn’t be hard.   “Creature summoned by Zack Deppe, I command you to go back to your world!” Zack recited the mantra to send the creature back to its world.   But before the goblin was vacuumed back to a portal, it viciously said something that they found a little puzzling. “You! You’re gonna die! You don’t have much time left to live!”   Their eyes followed to whom it was looking at it was Zack.   When the goblin was gone, Zack started to laugh out loud and looked at the three who were confused about what the goblin said. “Do you guys believe that bullshit? Green goblins couldn’t tell someone’s fortune. None of the goblins could.”   That, he couldn’t tell certainly.   The four didn’t seriously take what the green goblin said. They knew it couldn’t do much more than being invisible and to ramble.   “Who’s next?” Zack said while kicking the bones and other things off of the summoning circle.   The two looked at Peter and Josh. “Who among you want to do next?” Ray asked.   Josh stood there, his knees a little shaking. He was still scared of what had happened until now. It also wasn’t just easy for him to process everything.   After much hesitation, Peter decided to go first before Josh. “I’ll do it, then.”   Without thinking hard, he decided to go the same as Zack. As what they’ve seen, green goblin didn’t look much like a harmful one yet. It showed that it was one of the weakest creatures and easy to handle. Besides, he could possibly make a deal with it to make money.   Setting the trap was a wrong idea because it scared the goblin away. If he could make a good deal with the goblin, he could make use of the goblin’s skills to make him some money.   He stepped inside the circle and the circle flickered just like it did to Zack. He looked at Ray who just nodded, telling it was normal.   He finally reads the same mantra Zack used to call the goblin.   “The minor creature from the world of Filasso;  Monstrous creature of grotesque and pure mischief.  I laid this precious thing for you; you must abide by me.  In my name, Peter Cohen, I command you to appear in this world!”   The light of the circle blinked once but nothing happened. No swirling wind, no portal. No nothing.   “What happened?” Zack asked and the three looked around.   “I think you should summon it again,” Ray suggested.   Peter shook his head with a hum. “I don’t think so. I’m afraid I might duplicate the summoning and end up summoning two.”   As the three were waiting and Peter thinking hard about what had gone wrong, a green bubble appeared outside the circle. The bubble was color of neon green, glowing and levitating off the floor of the basement.   Peter waited for a few seconds, but no other goblin appeared after that. He found it unusual because there should be at least a monstrous little creature running around the basement.   He looked at Ray, Josh, and Zack who was patiently waiting for something to appear.   “When will it come?” Josh asked.   Peter looked back at the green bubble then back to the three. They seemed to not see the bubble nor notice its obvious presence.   He had the thought that among the four of them inside the basement, he was the only single person who could see the green bubble. Odd, as he supposed that a green goblin should appear by the circle after using the same mantra as what Zack used.   As he started to wander for more, the situation changed.   There was a sound of rumble and crumble and the corners of the basement started to crack into a large opening under the ground—a chasm.   Peter started to panic. “Did you see that?” he asked and looked at the three who seemed to be unbothered, still standing at their same position while looking at the summoning circle.   “Why can’t you see it?” He asked them but they just ignored him. “Can you even hear me?”   Shortly after, there was a small grumbling sound from the chasm. Peter became more cautious and stood by to see what was about to come.   The grumbling sound stopped. He counted the seconds but until he reached four, something emerged through the chasm, sending pieces of rocks and hard soil around the basement. He checked the three and they weren’t aware of what was happening.   He looked at whatever it was that came out of the chasm only to gasp in fear.   A huge python with metallic gray patterns on its skin. Peter was frozen to his position and glanced at the three. “Guys, I think you should see the thing behind you,” he warned, which took the attention of the three.   Peter can’t believe it. They heard him just now.   The three turned around and before they could even do, the python whipped Ray with its thick tail which had him thrown against the wall and fatally fell on the floor face-first. Ray groaned, and hardly sat back up with its injured bones, his arm and leg appeared to be dislocated.   “Ray!” Peter screamed. He was about to run and get a weapon to kill the python, but when he looked at the python, it was now simultaneously swallowing the two wholly. “Josh! Zack!” He called their name and watched how their body shook as they were being swallowed.   While the python was struggling to swallow the two at the same time, it was looking at Peter.   Out of fear, Peter ran toward the staircase, but as he ran, the staircase became longer and longer. It took him some time to reach for the cellar door.   Without looking back, he exited the cellar mansion of the villa. He looked for the car but there was no car there.
