Chapter 1: The Cold Words of Rejection
The ballroom of the Silver Moon Pack was filled with the scent of expensive wine and lilies, but all I could smell was the intoxicating aroma of sandalwood and rain. My mate. He was here.
I smoothed my simple white dress, my heart hammering against my ribs. After years of being the "orphan girl" of the pack, the invisible omega who cleaned the floors, I finally found him.
But as I looked up, my joy turned into ice.
Alpha Kael, the most powerful and ruthless man in the northern territories, was standing on the stage. His cold, grey eyes weren't looking at me with love. They were filled with pure disgust.
"Attention, everyone!" Kael’s voice boomed, vibrating through the floorboards.
I stepped forward, a small smile forming on my lips. “Kael... it’s me,” I whispered in my mind, hoping our soul-bond would connect.
He didn't blink. Instead, he reached out and wrapped his arm around Chloe, the pack’s most beautiful—and cruelest—high-ranking wolf.
"I have found my true Luna," Kael announced, his gaze finally dropping to mine like a guillotine. "And it is not this weak, pathetic omega."
A collective gasp echoed through the room. The bond inside me screamed, tearing at my soul.
"Elena," Kael said, his voice devoid of any emotion. "I, Alpha Kael of the Silver Moon Pack, reject you as my mate and my Luna. You are nothing to this pack. You are nothing to me."
The pain was physical. It felt like my heart was being ripped out of my chest with glowing hot irons. I fell to my knees, gasping for air, while the entire pack began to laugh and whisper.
"Get out," Kael commanded. "Leave this pack tonight, or I will have the guards throw your carcass into the rogue forest."
I looked up, tears blurring my vision, but I didn't beg. I saw Chloe’s mocking smirk and Kael’s stony face. They thought they had destroyed me. They thought I was just a weak omega.
What Kael didn't know was that my wolf wasn't a common omega. Deep inside the darkness of my soul, something ancient and powerful was waking up.
"Fine," I whispered, standing up with a strength I didn't know I had. I wiped the tears from my face, my eyes glowing a faint, dangerous silver. "I accept your rejection, Alpha Kael. But remember this day. Because when I return, you will be the one kneeling."
I turned my back on them and walked out into the storm, carrying a secret that would change everything. I wasn't just leaving alone.
I was carrying the heir he would never deserve.
