Arguing with Maddix was not on my list of things to do today. I don't know what got into him, but he was way out of line with something that wasn't his business at all.
Not long ago, before any of the attacks, River came to us asking for more information about his birth family. We had told him everything we knew about his birth parents, but we had omitted that he had a older sister who died not long before his parents. A death that was labeled as suspicious.
We only omitted the information because we didn't want him to feel more alone than he already did. We didn't want him to have any confusion or experience more grief. We should have told him, and we know that now, but at the time we thought it was better that we didn't.
