Chapter Seven

*3 days later* We finally managed to reach Birmingham after going back to the service station where we left the car and headed straight to our flat. I checked the mailbox to see there is a notice of late payment for rent which is strange as we paid two months’ rent. Well, we head up to the flat to grab a good night’s sleep on a comfy bed and we can deal with everything else in the morning. ***12 hours later*** I wake up feeling so much better and head down into town to get the three of us a well-deserved fully cooked decent breakfast. I managed to find a small pub that was doing food, so I ordered three meals to be delivered to the flat once they were done. Once they were ordered I headed back to the flat to see the young boy at the desk, I swear I need to ask his name, so I ask him about the note. “Hey, can I ask you something?” I ask as I approach the desk. “Sure, what is it?” He replies. “I found a note about the rent in our letterbox yesterday and was just wondering about it as we paid two months’ rent.” I explain. “Ah, yes but it has been three months.” He states. “Really that long dammit well I will speak with Derek and see if he can get you the money after breakfast. I also thought we left a note to say you can set up a direct debit with you after the two months.” I explain again. “Okay just be glad the landlord does not know as I had to pay it for you so just give the money to me and it will be sorted. It would not let me set it up for you, maybe we can get it set up another day. He exclaims. “Okay well I will see you later. Oh, and thanks for that.” I speak. “No problem.” He replies. I head upstairs and enter the flat to see the boys are finally awake, I tell them that breakfast will be delivered shortly and then I proceed into the bathroom to take a long deserved refreshing bath. After my long bath I get out and walk into the living room, wrapped in a bath towel, to see my lovely, cooked breakfast waiting for me to eat on the coffee table; so, I sit down on the couch and dig into it savouring every bite I take. “DEREK!!” I shout as I throw my rubbish out and get dressed. “Yes, there is not any need to shout Celeste.” Derek says popping his head out of his room. “Sorry was not sure if you were in or not. Anyway, is there any chance you could go get some money out for rent and hand it to the desk boy as it has apparently been three months since we left so he paid the rent, and we just owe him the money. Also, he could not get the direct debit set up so he will come another day to do it.” I explain. “Really, it has been that long and yeah sure. I was just about to head into town anyway to get some stuff in for the flat and I will grab the rent money on the way back.” He exclaims walking over to get the keys. “Thanks, hun you are a star. Also take Robert with you to help carry stuff as it seems we may need a lot and I can get on with the cleaning in peace and quiet.” I say as Robert comes into the living room. “Okay shall do.” Derek says as they both head out the door. With the boys gone, I get on with cleaning the flat as it seems to need it doing which is surprising as no-one has been in for three months. ***2 hours later*** I managed to get most of the flat cleaned up before the boys returned with about six shopping bags full of stuff. They place them onto the kitchen counters and start to put everything away. There is a war still going on outside, but I am sure as the days pass it will eventually die down and everything will slowly return to normal. I take all the documents out of the bag we were using to transport them and place them back into the box to put them back under my bed. ***3 days later*** We were watching TV when suddenly there was a loud knocking on the door which makes us all look at each other confused as it could not be the desk boy for the rent as that was paid the other day, so who could it be. Derek gets up and answers the door only to be pushed aside by two wardens barging their way into the flat. Robert and I jump to our feet while the wardens look around inspecting the place before handing us a letter. ~Dear Residents, This letter is to inform you that the global war is coming to an end and there is nothing to fear anymore. If some wardens barge into the property, it is just to do an inspection of any illegal property under the original laws and that you are safe to stay in your homes. It is also advised that you keep leaving the premises to a minimum while the war dies down for your safety. Kind Regards, The Government~ With that the wardens leave the property; we place the letter on the table and let out a huge sigh of relief since what we spent the last three months doing actually worked and the world is going to return back to normal.
