Chapter One

2760 Words
I feel my body start to change and it scares the hell out of me. I am 100% sure that this is not a part of the human genome or chromosome make-up, my bones fell like they are being broken a thousand times over and over again; I look to my left and see my reflection in a broken window. I see white ears and a tail start to form, I open my mouth to feel a set of fangs, I believe, starting to grow; I turn and look at my hands to see my nails are turning into claws. With having seen this happen I panic like crazy and run like hell towards my old flat to find my parents. Maybe they have some sort of explanation as to what is happening to me. I managed to reach my flat in somewhat one piece as my body seems to be still changing and I have no control over it. I enter the flat to see my mom sitting on the couch perfectly fine but as I walk further into the flat, I see other people sitting around. I motion to my mother to follow me into my room so I can ask her what is going on with me. I close the door once we are both inside so the others cannot hear what I am about to ask. “Mom, do you have any idea what is happening to me.” I ask my mother “Honey, I knew this time would come when you would realize something was different.” She responds. “If you know what is wrong then tell me otherwise, I will go and find dad and see if he knows.” I ask very bluntly “Celeste, sit down and I’ll try to explain as it may help put an end to this war that’s going on around us” she says while patting the spot on the bed next to her. I sit down on the bed with a confused look on my face waiting for my mom to explain everything. My mom is pacing back and forth probably trying to figure out the best way to tell me the truth or some sort of answer. “Celeste, I’m just going to come right out and say it, me and your father are not your real parents’ we took you in when you were just 6 months old.” She starts to answer. “What do you mean? So, who are my real parents?” I interrupt questioning. “I am not sure who your real parents are, all I know is that you are not from Earth as a note that was attached to you claims. At first, I thought it was some sort of joke your real parents decided to pull. So, I did some digging and could not find a trace of who they are.” She continues “So, you are saying that my parents just abandoned me here with no real explanation as to why. Great so my parents are either cowards or ashamed.” I once again interrupt starting to feel slightly upset and angry at my biological parents. “The note I kept it as it’ll probably explain it a lot better than I ever could.” She continues.   My mom Claire (as she will be known by her name from now on) walks over to a box that is on top of my wardrobe and pulls out a note saying…. ~Veyl celeste, han ven dag readri ert reth ven drit weiev hit lon eldif vi 18 ailn daiyri zishdag laut unnexplainable peiyrsz er ehda human je natrh.  Miy, Si elt daiyri er dehw evd rayst er explnan hent lon defrinz amount vi hanch nevt Si weiev.  ven dag originaltiv weirt eh planet chenmid cavana, comemiy lon swykladaer ven dag daiyri zishdag hase unn fliuren je rast planet nakyl; oen hase causid sa eh mutatid chromolaut hent rast dna.  Ohwey dag labellid ds narteth hybridsz owe er lon fact ohwey abd peiyr henter hadronsz, half-wava ailn oufttiv.  Spizvaite, han lautnin hase bittnan sa nin vi lek, linim comemiy takip bej lek roe han linmir navbla rejectsz lon peiyr, oen abd ladek linm.  Han ven ahkliev er peiyr lautnin, derst ait linim dag je lon brink vi erivv ds oen hase fie painais myzmparid er linm narteth fit ailn healthva.  Comemiy, lon navbla dhet eh highill vabe vi wemlinri lon peiyr freed vi sheill hepd vi lezzri er survwyk.  spizvaite, ven dag bevrial ds ven weiev abilitsz nevt dro adasitt hybrid dhet, rayt hase inm Si fid er abandon ven je planet natrh.  Ven weiev lon abilitva er traval lon planet ds kine ds er dayt reiz weirt rast leadersz.  Si hepd prot ven ailn explnan oen eh fap loyral roe arsh ban fyust traval lon natrh ailn yover liek ven laith ailn liek iet laith ven.  laith, vensh ayraith, lydia x Which translates to: Dear Celeste, If you are reading this then you must have hit the age of 18 and going through some unexplainable changes to any human on Earth. So, I am going to try my best to explain in the little amount of time that I have. You are originally from a planet called Cavana, also the transition you are going through is not natural on our planet either; it is caused by a mutated chromosome in our DNA. We are labelled as being hybrids due to the fact we can change into wolves, half-way and fully. However, if someone is bitten by one of us, they also become like us but if their body rejects the change, it can kill them. If you decide to change someone, make sure they are on the brink of death as it is less painful compared to them being fit and healthy. Also, the body has a higher rate of accepting the change out of sheer will of wanting to survive. However, you are special as you have abilities that no other hybrid has, which is why I had to abandon you on planet Earth. You have the ability to save the planet as well as to stay safe from our leaders. I will find you and explain it a lot better but for now just save the Earth and protect those you love and those who love you. Love, Your mother, Lydia x ~   I threw the note on the floor and ran out of the flat only to be stopped by a bunch of wardens doing checks on survivors and to send them off to safe camps. They pushed me back inside and asked everyone to line up for a thorough search to make sure that no-one is carrying any dangerous objects. By this point I have noticed that I am back to my humanish self with no trace of wolf insight. Once past the wardens I see Robert standing with a worried/glad look on his face when he sees me. I run up to him and give him a huge hug; I am so glad to see and feel him right now even though I have no idea how I am going to explain everything to him. “Hey, I was worried about you, I was scared you got hurt.” Robert says panicked and slightly relieved. “Hey, well I am fine, I was worried about you has I have not seen you in a while.” I respond relieved he is ok. “Yeah, sorry about that once this whole war started a two weeks ago, I could not get past the wardens.” He responds. “Wait what, this started two weeks ago, on my 18th birthday was I out that long.” I reply slightly panicked. “Um yeah, you were which was why I was practically panicking when I couldn’t see you moving on your birthday.” He says while pulling me back into the hug.   I pulled away panicking and starting to pull this all together somehow. I started to walk towards the road with Robert in tow trying to figure it out. So, if I were out for two weeks then maybe it was my wolf that put me in a catatonic state to ease 90% of the transition of her waking up, this would make sense, but what I do not get is this war that is happening. Robert puts his arm around me looking at me worried, I look at him with a bit of sadness in there; I pull him over to the grass verge on the other side of the road, slightly nervous that I am going to have to tell him. “Robert there’s something I have to tell you and you’re probably not going to believe me but please keep an open mind at least.” I ask nervously. “Okay what is it as it looks like it has been eating you up inside?” He responds with a slightly confused and worried look on his face.” He responds with a slight confused and worried look on his face. “Well, it has, so here goes. I am a hybrid from another planet, my parents that you know are not my real parents. My real parents abandoned me here to keep me and the Earth safe. Which I am apparently doing a bad job at.” I blurt out quickly. “Okay, slow down and let me see if I heard correctly. You are a hybrid as in half human and half animal.” He says looking at me like I have grown two heads. “Yes, wolf to be precise but I currently struggle to control the change.” I reply. “Next, you are from another planet, which is cool, however your parents abandoned you here and you have to keep the Earth safe, and I am guessing save it from the current war.” he continues. “Yes” I sigh. “Why exactly?” he questions. “That is what I do not fully understand myself, so you do not think I am crazy in any way.” I ask scared to know the answer. “I think you’re slightly crazy, always have but it does explain your behaviour on your birthday.” He responds with a slight chuckle. I look up at him and smile as I am grateful, he does not think I am a complete nut job. Well now he knows, I have now got to figure out how the hell I am supposed to save an entire goddam planet before it goes completely balls up. I stand up and gesture Robert to follow me, so we do not get caught for being out of a safe camp. I lead us to an abandoned house just on the other side of the motorway which should be safe to hide in for a couple of days. Once inside I cover both of our mouths as two wardens walk past, once the coast is clear I let out a big sigh of relief. “This part is tricky trying to figure out how the hell I’m supposed to save the Earth from this war.” I exclaim slightly panicked and scared. “Well, that is a big responsibility shame we are two weeks in and no-one to talk to, to help.” Robert says slightly unhelpfully. “Yeah, that is not helping at all, and I know which is why I need to come up with something.” I snap back. I walk towards the window as I can hear something but cannot see anything. When all of a sudden, some vehicle comes out of nowhere and parks in front of the house. I back up into Robert really quickly causing us both to tumble backwards onto the floor. I hush us both as I hear footsteps coming p the path. I pray that it is not a warden, and it is someone who can help. We both watch the door intensely as it begins to open, my heart is pounding like crazy, and I can feel the change start. “Celeste, you in here?” the unknown man whispers as he comes through the door. Heart still racing I stand up to see who it is, it seems to be some guy in his mid-thirties, but I do not recognise him. He walks in further and sees me standing in a guarding position in front of Robert. “Celeste, calm down, I’m here to help and I’m aware of your situation.” the guy says with his hands up. “So, who are you as you seem to know who I am?” I question not moving from my position. “My name is Derek, I have been keeping an eye on you, your whole life as per request from your parents. I know you have a lot of questions which will be answered in due time. We need to focus on saving the Earth right now.” Derek explains calmly. “Okay, okay, so what exactly are we going to do? Do you even have a plan because I do not?” I start questioning and start to calm down. “Well first things first you need to control your shifting which will help out a lot in the long run.” Derek says while coming closer. “Okay hold on how you can expect her to control something she just discovered?” Robert blurts out. “Quite easily with an anchor and practice.” Derek says. “An anchor for what exactly?” I ask. “An anchor for your panic attacks.” Derek exclaims. “I’m also guessing you haven’t found your mate yet?” I shake my head and look at Derek like he is crazy but for some reason it makes some sort of sense. I grab Robert’s hand for some comfort as it is what I need right now and I realize that I am completely calm when he is around me: not sure why as I know wolves have mates and my wolf has not motioned or mentioned anything about that with Robert, maybe she is just using the fact we are dating as a source of comfort, and she will speak up later. I move over to the couch to sit down as I feel like I am about to pass out.   ***2 hours later***   I wake up to Robert looking at me completely surprised. “What’s that look for?” I ask. “You are half wolf and have been since you passed out two hours ago.” Robert responds. “What do you mean I’m half wolf?” I question. Robert pulls a mirror out from underneath the couch and faces it towards me. I jump up and grab it from him to see that there are claws on my hands, white ears instead of human ears, red glowing eyes and fangs. I look back at Robert slightly scared as I do not know what I am capable of. I jump off of the couch and back into a corner to cower as I am scared, I am going to hurt someone I love. “Celeste, it’s going to be alright if you were going to hurt me you would have instead of retreating into a corner.” Robert says trying to reassure me. “I know, I am just taking precautions as I do not know what I am capable of once transitioned even if it is just half-way.” I say shaking and panicked. “Understandable but why do we not see what you can do in the meantime. It is all we can do.” Robert says reasonably. “Okay but it is your fault if you get hurt.” I warn. “I know.” He speaks. “By the way where did Derek go?” I question looking around. “He had to go somewhere, didn’t exactly say where.” Robert says shrugging his shoulders. I stand up and slowly walk back over to Robert and slump into him slightly shaking. We sit on the couch cuddling trying to figure out what type of training I will go through, so I am ready to save the Earth.
