Derek walks in to see the two of us asleep on the couch; he walks past us and dumps two bags on the counter in the kitchen. He then walks over to us and places a blanket over us to keep us warm since the house had no heating or electricity due to being abandoned for three years.
***3 hours later***
I woke up to see that it has gotten light outside, I stand up and walk outside to see that no-one seems to be around, and it has gone quiet. I was not sure if this meant that everyone was safe or in harm’s way; all I know is that me and Robert are still alive and hopefully Claire too. I walk over to the kitchen to notice two food bags on the counter, Derek probably brought them, I think to myself; I look inside and see mainly fresh ready meals. No idea where we are going to put them to stay fresh like, maybe Derek has one of those camping fridges in his vehicle. I take one out and start eating it only to realize how hungry I really was. I stop eating as I heard someone moving around so I walk out of the kitchen to see Robert starting to wake up.
I finish my meal before heading outside to see if there is actually anyone here or if we have just been abandoned completely which would mean we could freely move around without the risk of being caught by wardens. As I head towards the door, I hear Robert get up and walk towards me, I turn to face him to see him staring at me with a puzzled look on his face.
“Hey, what is with the puzzled look?” I question.
“Just wondering why, it is so quiet out, wonder if it has settled down for the meantime.” He responds with a groggy tone as he has just woken up.
“I’m wondering the same thing which is why I’m about to head out and see what’s going on.” I say while heading out.
I set off while slowly changing into a full wolf, I guess it may help with my exploration, I look up to notice that my eye line is slightly lower than usual (my wolf isn’t going to be ginormous like the ones you see in other fantasy novels, she is just slightly bigger than your average wolf); I take off across the motorway back to my old flat and see in a window that I have become this white wolf which startled me a bit. I push it aside and carry on forward to see if I could see anyone around. The further I went I sensed that no-one was here and something bad had happened, except the war that is going on gosh people I am not that stupid, it had a different feeling, a different sense. I slow down my pace so that I was walking quietly as I pick up a scent of stress that I am presuming comes from a few young women as it smells quite feminine with a bit of male scent mixed in but less stressed.
Although the scent I am picking up do not exactly tell me why there is not anyone around; so, I decided to follow the main scent of stress and followed it in the direction of north. The further I went the stronger the scent became, I sped up my pace and ended up tripping over a section of fence that had been broken probably during the war when it was in town. I let out a small growl from the pain but when I look up, I see some sort of camp. These must be the safe camps. I have a feeling that this is not as safe as they claim it is, I was about to head forward when I sensed there was something wrong back at the abandoned house. I take off back that way with panic and worry running through me.
Once I reached the house, I returned back to human to realize that I am completely n***d, just great, I think to myself. I walk into the house to see that Robert is on the floor bleeding; I rush over to him to see how bad the damage is, and it looks like he has been shot but it seems he is still conscious.
“Hey, what happened here?” I ask panicking.
“Some guys came in looking for Derek and you, but I told them neither of you were here. They did not believe me, so they scoured the place from top to bottom; once they realized I was telling the truth one of them shot me as a warning to you guys.” He choked out.
“Warning for what? What do they want from us?” I ask while trying to put some pressure on the wound.
“A warning that they will be back for you guys as they want to talk, more likely they were hired to kill you.” He chokes out again.
“Well looks like we may have to move but we cannot with how bad that wound looks, and it seems that the bullet is still inside.” I reply while trying to find something to stop the bleeding.
I run to the kitchen to see if I could find anything that could get the bullet out of Robert’s side, only thing I could find was a pair of tweezers. Hopefully, these will do the job otherwise it is my claws. I look over to him to see that his condition is just getting worse.
“Robert this may hurt.” I say as I start to dig the tweezers in only to find they were just too short. So, plan B, I flick my hand out to see if the claws will come out on command, luckily, they did. I dig them into Robert’s side and start to get the bullet out, once the bullet was out, I placed my hand over the wound to try and slow the bleed out down. After five minutes I notice it has practically stopped so I remove my hand to see that his wound is healed. I jump back and Robert looks at me surprised.
“Erm what just happened?” Robert says surprised.
“Well, I believe that I have the ability to heal people but at the same time it seems to drain some of my energy.” I reply exhausted.
Derek walks in on us while I was trying to clean up my claws from fixing Robert’s side. He walks over to Robert who was still lying on the floor and gives him a hand up from the floor. I walk back over while drying my hands to Derek having a confused look on his face.
“Don’t give me that look there wasn’t anything naughty going on, some men had come in looking for us and hot Robert as a warning. I had to dig out a bullet from his side with my claws. While holding the wound to stop it from bleeding I found out I have the ability to heal people, but it comes at a cost of draining some of my energy.” I explain quickly.
“Okay, well that answers that then. Well, if you are both now fit and well, we should probably find a new place to crash as whoever those guys were will probably come back and we are going to have to speed up the learning process.” Derek says while starting to pack some stuff up.
“Oh, and the reason for my nakedness is that I was full wolf trying to figure something out so if there are some new clothes for me in that bag you brought, it would be much appreciated as I seemed to have wrecked the last lot.” I say releasing some tension.
“Well, luckily for you I do as I figured it may happen, it’s just a black bikini with some shorts and tank top but the material of the bikini can withstand the changes whereas regular clothes can’t.” Derek replies grabbing the bag.
“But wouldn’t these just rip anyway when I change despite the elasticity.” I question.
“Most likely but at least this will give you time to take them off before you shift fully.” He exclaims handing me the clothes.
I take the clothes from him and put them on feeling much better now that I do not feel I am showing off too much. Derek walked past me and into the kitchen to collect the two bags of food, Robert picks up the blankets from the couch before we set off. When we get to the motorway we decided to go right and follow it until we were two towns away from our hometown; while driving through the areas all we saw was chaos between everyone, I think to myself, I need to find where this all started and put an end to it.
Once we reach a town, we thought was suitable we began looking around for somewhere to stay, which is harder when everyone is looking at you because it is somewhere you do not belong. I shrug off the unsettling stares once we approach an apartment building.
“Wait here I’ll see if there are any flats spare.” I say as I open the door to the building to see a young man, probably around my age, on the front desk. I slowly walk over to him to see that he is breathing which is a relief; I reach the desk and produce a little cough to get his attention. He looks up at me and hands me a key.
“Erm, what’s this for?” I ask looking at him confused.
“It’s a key to an apartment for you and your friends; I heard you guys talking and you seem like you need somewhere to stay. It is two bedroomed. We might be in the middle of a war, but they have to stick the survivors so far somewhere.” Explains the desk guy.
“Well thank you, that’s very kind of you, just send the bill up when it’s done.” I reply taking the keys with a smile.
I turn around and motion Robert and Derek to come inside, we head for the elevator and take it up to the 3rd floor; I notice our flat is directly opposite, which is convenient. I unlock the door and head for the bathroom as I have been needing it for the last six miles. Once relieved, I walk back into the living room to see the boys sitting quietly watching TV, I walk past them and head into the kitchen to collect three meal boxes from the bags; I walk back over to them and give them each one.
“You guys should eat before you pass out from hunger.” I speak.
“How did you know?” Robert asks.
“Remember, werewolf means heightened everything.” I say looking at him with a duh look.
“Oh yeah, I forgot.” He says quietly. I sit on the chair near the front door and eat my food before I pass out from my own hunger. I get up to get a drink to see there is not any glasses in the cupboards, in fact there are no dishes at all which is so unhelpful.
“Can someone please pop to the shop and get some dishes and kitchenware.” I shout through.
“I will go in a sec.” I hear Derek shout back.
“Okay just be safe.” I warn.
I head to my room to lay down and get some rest as I am exhausted from the long drive, as I am about to drift off, I feel someone get into the other side of the bed; I turn to see that it is Robert, must have had the same idea. I snuggle into him and fall asleep.
***2 hours later***
I woke up suddenly to someone banging on the door, I jump out of bed and walk over slowly to the front door and look through the peep hole. I see that it is an agitated Derek, so I open the door and let him in.
“What was with the banging?” I say groggily.
“I left my key behind, and no-one was answering when I knocked normally or shouting your names.” He says slightly annoyed.
“Sorry, we were taking a nap.” I say while moving out the way. Robert comes in looking like he had his heart stopped then restarted.
“What’s up with you?” I ask him while shutting the door.
“Still recovering from the loud heart attack called Derek.” Robert exclaims.
“You could have asked the front desk for the spare key you, tit.” I say to Derek exhaustedly.
Derek puts the dishes and kitchenware in the kitchen to be washed and put away; I pick up a scent of worry from him as he walked by which left me concerned to the point of anger bubble inside of me. I feel Robert put his arms around me, but I was not calming down in the slightest. I push Robert off and leave the flat and run off into the forest behind the apartment block. I realize I have turned but not into a wolf just a werewolf, once I was far enough in the forest, I fell to my knees and let out a roar before breaking down and crying.
*Hey, do not worry about it, I am sure there is a reason Derek is hiding something from us* I jump back thinking I must now be going insane with voices in my head.
*Stop overreacting it is me your wolf and my name is Kia, so you can stop referring me to as your wolf or werewolf now*
*Well, you could have piped up sooner like maybe when I first started to shift*
*Sorry I was going to but decided that it was best you sort of figure the basics out yourself*
*So, do you know what other abilities we have that could be useful or a way to use them without draining energy*
*Erm, no sorry I am learning at the same pace as you are. I was given to you but was not told about any abilities I would possess. That is easy since we have fully bonded now using the abilities will not drain your energy anymore although the more you use them at once then you will lose energy. That is standard when exerting a lot of energy similar to exercising, I guess. Also, we can change without actually ripping out clothes*
*Ok, I guess this is going to be a good learning curve for us hybrids then. We could also add to the hybrid history books at the end of all of this and now you tell me*
A couple of hours pass without me noticing until I hear someone walking through the woods about a mile out from my position. I back up against a tree trying to slow my heart rate down enough to transform back to human before this person sees me like this. The footsteps seem to be getting closer and closer as my heartbeat pounds slower and slower; I hear the footsteps stop which makes me turn around the tree to see one of the locals standing facing my direction. I get up from where I was sitting praying, I was completely human with no trace of Kia in sight before confronting the young man.
“Hey, how come you’re out here, did you follow me of just coincidently taking a stroll in my direction?” I question.
“Hey, I heard a howl and was quite suspicious as there are not any wolves in this area; so, I decided to investigate and ended up finding you, sorry.” He responds holding his hands up defensively.
“Oh, it is fine and are you sure there are not any wolves in the area?” I continue to question.
“Yep, have not been since 1996” He states.
“Okay well I’m going to go home before it gets too dark, and you should too.” I say to him.
I head off back into the direction I had come in with this guy in tow; it took us about an hour to walk back into town which made me think how far I ran when I was upset. I said goodbye to the guy before heading up to the flat. When I got in Derek slammed me into the wall with anger in his face.
“Why the hell did you run out? Where did you go?” Derek says with anger in his voice.
“I left because you are hiding something from us, and I ran into the woods.” I spit back.
“Did anyone see you change?” He questions.
“No, not that I’m aware of, now will you let me go?” I reply trying to get out of his grip. Derek released me and I slumped onto the floor waiting for him to say something. He sat down on the couch while Robert walks in and runs to me relieved that I am okay and unharmed.
“Okay, the guys who attacked us earlier were hired to kill you as soon as you turned 18. I only know this as one of them approached me while I was in the shop asking me where you are, but I told them I do not know.” Derek explains while sighing.
“Right, whatever they are the least of my worries, the planet is my main priority now.” I point out. I get up and walk over to the window to see a building I did not notice before and it looks out of place.
“Robert come her and look at this, do you see that building?” I ask confused.
“All I see is a playing field.” He responds.
“So, you do not see that building that is like six stories high?” I motion with my hands.
“Nope just a field.” He says again.
“Okay” I sigh.
