Truth Comes Out Pt. 2

        Robert said, “Is that not weird? Don’t get me wrong. I would do the exact same thing, but as someone who is quite cautious and jealous of their own life...it is strange.” King Arthur laughed, “I was in place for a decade poised to take power from King Damon. I risked his ire many times for the Lass. I openly questioned him, risking a decade worth of work to quietly take power for Haley. I was making moves to seize power before Haley’s plan worked out. I could not bear to see her in pain anymore. I moved up a plan five years in advance. At first, I thought it was because of my Faelynn, but the longer I watched Haley the more I realized she does have a unique ability to inspire loyalty. It’s quite rare among the Fae. I doubt she even knows it’s a power within her lineage.” Robert said, “Which leans towards our whole….” King Arthur cut him off, “Until it is realized by the Fae speculation is pointless.” Robert said, “But it is not.” King Arthur said, “There’s a piece missing.” Robert said, “A piece that exists and simply needs to be made Royal. Which the princess has been adamant about happening for years.” I said, “What on god’s green EARTH are you two talking about?” Robert smiled, “Look into ancient fairy texts Alpha Chase. You’ll know exactly what we are talking about. They are hard to come by, but many vampires know of them.” I said, “Sure, I’ll add that to my list of things to do. I would like to get back to you endangering Lexi.” King Arthur said, “I understand your need to have a bad guy here Alpha Chase, but it’s not us. She was already in danger because of Noah Calvert. We are providing the best option to resolve this matter and help your mate move forward.” Robert said, “Yes, and where is she moving forward to? I know several of our subjects were intrigued by her, and they are unattached. Unlike yourself. You are still married right?”

            I had him against the wall in seconds. “I married Sophia so she could take her RIGHTFUL place as Alpha. I do not love her as anything more than a friend.” King Arthur said, “Let him go Alpha Chase.” Robert said, “Oh come on. It was a love tap between friends.” I growled at him but let him go. Robert said, “I provoked him Arthur.” King Arthur said, “I am aware.” Robert said, “I do know the reasons behind your marriage. I also understand. I have been looking for my mate longer than you’ve been alive Alpha Chase. I understand the follies you can make in your youth, but I do know that you are a good man. I have looked into you extensively since I have met my Susanna.” I said, “After she got stabbed.” Robert laughed, “No, well before. Since I saw Lexi in your club that night you bounced people left and right for looking in her general direction. I would not let a friend of my Susanna’s be harmed. Your mate means too much to mine. I know you believe vampires to be soulless selfish shits, but she means everything to me. I will not let Lexi be harmed because I am a selfish bastard and I do love Susanna. Lexi may not realize the influence she has on her people, but she always made Susanna feel like she had a home. Susanna’s parents are indifferent about her. I recently discovered the reason. She’s adopted. Her family would do well to stay in the shroud. I will not be kind to them.” I was stunned, “She’s hood though. She’s fast like they are.” Robert nodded, “Her parents are believed to be dead. They never came home from a mission.” 

            I sighed, “Susanna aside; We aren’t going to agree here. I understand your reasons, and you understand mine. We can agree to disagree because if this was my plan and it was Susanna in the apartment, you’d feel the same way.” King Arthur stood, “We came to explain. That’s all.” I said, “I understand, and I respect it. Honestly, we all know most vampire regimes wouldn't’ have bothered to make the preemptive move. They’d have waited for me, and they wouldn’t have been as cordial. I just…. hate the thought of her in danger. It’s happening more often than not lately.” Robert said, “I don’t envy you, but our mates are warriors down to their very souls.” I nodded, “I know that.” They left my office. Susanna said, “One second guys.” She walked into my office and closed the door. I raised an eyebrow, “Your vampire won’t like this.” Susanna laughed, “Of course he won’t, but I have a mind of my own. I wanted to talk to you.” I said, “So talk.” Susanna said, “I love Lexi. She’s like a big sister to so many of us Hood members. I’m actually a few days older, but that doesn’t actually matter. I made Robert walk me through all of this before I let him present it to Lexi. I know you don’t like it, but honestly Lexi has walked into far more dangerous situations.” I said, “You have a moniker too, don’t you?” Susanna laughed, “I do.” I said, “Does your vampire know what it is?” Susanna laughed, “Not yet but I have a meeting schedule with the Hood to request permission. It keeps getting rescheduled but as Robert keeps telling me, we have time.” I laughed, “I suppose you do.” Susanna said, “I want you to know I want to protect Lexi too.” I sighed, “I know she feels the same way about you.” 

            Susanna smiled, “Another reason I wanted to talk to you. I wanted to explain a bit about her to you.” I raised an eyebrow, “Ok.” Susanna said, “Lexi will feel like she failed me. She was present when Noah attacked me, and she didn’t stop it. After Noah broke her heart, she was very single mindedly focused on making her moniker’s name known and feared. She was desperate to make her brother proud even though he already was. She takes failure very seriously. She guards so much of her heart, and with you it’s on open display. I know about your situation and that you’re married. Don’t break her heart Alpha Chase, or I fear no one will ever see it again.” With that she turned and opened the door. Robert was pacing. He shot me a glare, but quickly turned confused at the look on my face. Derrick closed the door. My dad said, “Chase?” I said, “I’ll crush her.” Pain coursed through me. “If she finds out I’m married it will crush her.” My dad said, “Son, you know I think you should tell her, but she’s asked you not to tell her. She even asked me not to tell her.” Derrick said, “I think it could hurt her, but she’d eventually let you explain Chase. It was her idea to not know. She’d have questions.” I sighed, “This is going to blow up in my face. I just know it. I just can’t lose her.” Lexi said, “You won’t lose me.”  We all glanced up startled. My office door had opened, and we missed it. Matt said, “Ok, well everyone out.”

            Lexi waited until the last person had left. She turned to me, “Chase, you’re not going to lose me. There’s a risk with the plan, but I’ll be ok.” I sighed, “I wasn’t talking about your plan. I was talking about me.” Lexi frowned, “What do you mean?” I said, “Promise me something.” Lexi smiled and crossed the room to me. She straddled my lap, “Anything.” I said, “When my situation comes out…. you’ll talk to me.” Lexi said, “What do you mean?” I said, “Just promise me...even if you want to yell, throw things, hit me, or however you feel. You’ll talk to me.” Lexi said, “I promise you Chase. I’ll talk to you. I might need space, but I’ll talk to you eventually.” I put my forehead on hers. “I love you so much.” Lexi kissed me deeply. I needed her. I needed to be inside her, and I needed to connect with her. I ripped her shirt off. She giggled but I covered it with my mouth. I slid my hand up her chest. The door began to open, “Don’t you f*****g dare open that door another inch.” I heard my dad say, “Alfred. Just...let’s wait in the kitchen.” I linked my dad, “The f**k is Alfred doing here?!” My dad said, “I don’t know. I just came down for a snack and saw him.” I gave Lexi my shirt. She smiled. I said, “Maybe you should just start leaving clothes all over the house. I have a tendency to rip your things.” Lexi laughed, “That’s something to consider.” I grabbed my pants and led her to the stairwell. I said, “I’ll be up in a minute.” She nodded and kissed her. Alfred said, “Lexi, nice to see you again.” Lexi said, “You could’ve had better timing Alfred.” I laughed as she shot up the stairs.

        I turned, “What the hell are you doing here this late without an appointment?” Alfred sighed, “My stepmother is squawking about planning your and Sophia’s anniversary party. I was here to change your mind about having one. On that note How does Lexi feel about being the other woman?” I grabbed him. My dad sighed, “Gonna need a new door…. again.” I threw Alfred out the front door. My dad said, “I was thinking about the other door, but a new door is needed all the same.” Matt and Derrick were running towards us when I stepped outside. I slammed Beta Alfred into a tree. I growled at him, “Sometimes. I think you WANT me to kill you Beta Alfred.” Matt shifted, “I don’t think he does Chase.” I said, “Beta Alfred, what are your thoughts here?” Beta Alfred was turning purple because I was cutting off his air supply. I said, “You ever say one more f*****g unkind word about Lexi Scott, and they will be YOUR LAST!” Derrick said, “Oh come on man! Not again!” I let Beta Alfred go. He coughed for several minutes. He said, “All I said was I wonder how she feels about being the other woman. Your reaction tells me she doesn’t know.”  Matt said, “Oh that’s ALL you said. That’s ALL You said?! Why man? Why don’t you like me anymore?” Beta Alfred said, “Better question. Why do you ANY of you care that I called Lexi Scott the other f*****g woman? SHE IS!” I heard a growl from my left. Before I could even process it...Kincade showed up and beat the hell out of Alfred. Matt said, “Is anyone else highly intrigued Kincade can beat the crap out of a Beta? No… just me?” I said, “No…. I’m right there with you.” My dad said, “His mother has Alpha blood. Her mother is an Alpha’s daughter. She was mated to a warrior. It’s not that surprising.” Kincade stood and backed up from Beta Alfred breathing heavy. Kincade said, “Don’t you ever speak about Lexi Scott that way ever again.” Beta Alfred stood. His wounds were healing already, “WHAT IS WITH THIS PACK?! She’s just some girl!” I hit him. Matt said, “For the love of Pete! Beta Alfred, will you just quit while you are behind.

        Beta Alfred said, “I don’t see what your problem is. She’s just some side chick your alpha has. Sure, she seems pretty cool, but she’s JUST HIS GIRLFRIEND! She’s not going to stay her long term. She’ll leave. Maybe sooner if someone tells her she’s dating a married man!” I said, “I don’t see why you are here unless it is you want me to kill you. If you so much as attempt to Lexi about Sophia…. I will kill you Beta Alfred. Does Sophia even know you are here?” Beta Alfred looked away. I smirked, “Oh...she doesn’t. Something tells me if I called her, she’d be pissed.” From behind me I heard Sophia’s voice, “An excellent point Chase. Alfred…. What are you doing here?” Alfred whirled. He sighed, “My mother’s been on my case about your anniversary party. She wants to start planning it. It will look strange if she doesn’t at least start to plan.” Sophia said, “I told you there wasn’t going to be a party.” Alfred sighed, “That doesn’t mean she can’t appear to be planning one. Hell, we can even ask Alpha Chase’s f**k buddy to help us plan it.” My dad said, “Goddess have mercy. You stay away from her!” I attacked him. I hit him after every word I spoke, “DON’T TALK ABOUT HER LIKE THAT!” Nadine came outside, “Ok, you’ve officially woken up your little sister who is crying to Lexi.” I growled, “Sophia, get your piece of s**t Beta OUT of my territory. NO ONE from your pack will approach Lexi about an anniversary party. It’s not happening. No party. Are we clear?” Sophia said, “What is it with that girl? Whatever. Alfred let’s go. I already told you there’s not going to be a party.” She hauled him up. Alfred looked at her, “Aren’t you going to do something?” Sophia turned to him, “You’ve already gotten the crap beat out of you. I don’t know what else I would do. I’ve already had one person betray me that was near and dear to my heart. Don’t make the same mistake Alfred. I can’t go through that twice.” Alfred jerked away, “That’s not what I was doing!” Sophia whirled to him, “No? I told you there was no party. If your stepmom was bothering you, you should’ve come to me. Not Chase behind my back. Tell her I’m planning it this year. Or tell her there is no party. I don’t care. You don’t skulk around our territory and sneak into Chase’s. I don’t know why everyone has this perception that I don’t know what’s going on, but you all are sadly mistaken. I do.”

        Beta Alfred looked as if she’d punched him. He said, “I don’t think you don’t know what’s going on.” Sophia snorted, “So you knew that I knew you snuck over to talk to Chase? I told you to leave that Lexi girl alone. I told you not to speak about her in front of Chase. Because he’s a weirdo about her. We have bigger problems than Chase’s new party planner girlfriend. I’m going to need you to focus on those.” Sophia turned to me, “Chase, I am sorry about this. It will NOT happen again. Will it Alfred?” Alfred sighed, “No, it will not.” Sophia said, “And you WILL leave Lexi Scott alone.” I stared at her astonished as she used an Alpha Command on her Beta. He hissed, “I didn’t do anything to her.” Sophia said, “Did I say you did? I said you’d leave her alone...like you told me you would. You act like I don’t know you. You want to get under Chase’s skin, and you’re using that girl to do it. Leave her be. She’s not the other woman. Chase and I aren’t in an actual marriage. You know that. Don’t hurt her like that. She doesn’t deserve it, and neither does Chase.” Beta Alfred said nothing. Sophia pushed, “You don’t tell the guys I’m dating they are the other man. Or that they are having an affair, so stop pushing Chase. He can kill you. Apparently right along with his lead warrior.” Kincade said, “Speak of Lexi Scott badly again, and I WILL kill you.” Sophia sighed, “We were getting along so well for the first time in months with Chase’s pack, Alfred. Then you have to go and mess it up. Are you another Wyatt? Do I need to worry that my oldest and dearest friend is betraying me right beside the other one?”

        Alfred dropped to his knees, “You are MY Alpha. Always. I will serve no one but you. Alpha Chase has been the source of your unhappiness for months.” Sophia sighed, “Sadly, I am the source of my unhappiness. I just blamed Chase. That’s not his fault though. It’s mine.” Matt said, “Did she just have a breakthrough?” I said, “It does look like that yes, but I’ve been burned on too many times to confirm that.” She said, “Get up and go wait for me at the border.” Alfred nodded and ran away. Sophia said, “Did you and your lead warrior HAVE to beat the crap out of him.” I said, “He’s already mostly healed. We didn’t hurt him too badly.” Sophia said, “Not what I asked. You love this girl, don’t you? What am I saying? Of course you do. Alfred has taken shots at your girlfriends before. You’d defend them, but never like this. Are you going to take her as your chosen mate?” I said, “There was once a time we would discuss things like this Sophia. Those days have long since passed.” Sophia sighed, “I deserved that. I’m a little worried about you, Chase. You aren’t that old. The mate bond is sacred. Just be really sure.” I said, “I am aware. Are you?” Sophia said, “You know I date, but I haven’t met my mate yet Chase. I want that though. I know the bond comes into play with chosen mates. I just don’t see Alfred’s dad as happy as Wyatt’s parents were. Or any of the fated mates in my pack.” My dad said, “He didn’t choose well to be fair.” Sophia smiled, “That is true. We are young though Chase. We have time to find our fated mates. Just look at Alpha Conners. He waited and he loves his fairy princess.” I said, “You seem to forget she was going to be his bride.”

        Sophia said, “I know. I’d imagine at this point she’d be his chosen mate if she wasn’t his fated mate. She’s too amazing to let slip through his fingers, and he’s a wise man.” I said, “She is his fated mate though.” Sophia nodded, “Just...take some more time.” I said, “I’ll do what I do Sophia.” Sophia nodded. “I am sorry about Alfred. He shouldn't have come here. Next time if all of you could manage not to almost kill him that would be great. I do need him.” Matt said, “You do realize I don’t just show up in your territory and demean you….and those you date. Don’t get me wrong. I’d love to. I’d love to just show up and ruin your whole damn day like you do mine so often; but I don’t.” Sophia said, “I am aware, Beta matt.” She said, “Have a good rest of your night. I must say. I’m getting more and more curious about this Lexi Scott.” I said, “Leave her alone Sophia.” Sophia looked startled, “I’d never hurt her Chase.” I said, “I didn’t say you would. I told you to leave her alone, and I mean it.” Sophia studied me, “Ok then. Have a good night everyone.” My dad nodded to her and she shifted into her wolf and ran to meet Alfred at their border. I turned to Kincade, “Take Kevin with you, and make sure they make it across our border into theirs. If you could make sure our border patrols know that Beta Alfred is not allowed here without our Beta being aware of his presence…. that would be great.” Kincade nodded. He took off shifting. Kevin met him before he hit the pack house.

        Derrick said, “Can I just say how unfair it is that I didn’t get to take a shot at Beta Alfred? I was literally about to get lucky. I’m talking about both of us naked almost in cockblocking people.” I laughed, “Go back to Sally.” Derrick took off. Matt said, “Chase, what do you need?” I said, “I need to go calm down my little sister and tap dance around what just happened with my mate.” Matt said, “Do I need to stay?” I said, “No, go back to Ted.” My dad and I walked back into the house. Just as two pack members drove up in a truck with a new front door. I linked Matt, “You already got a new door?” Matt said, “Can’t have our allies Beta’s just walking in like they own the place. Oh wait…. that already happened. Maybe consider ...LOCKING the front door.” I laughed, “Not a bad idea.” I walked upstairs and heard Susie’s voice. She wasn’t crying anymore. I walked into her room, and found Lexi petting her hair as they laid side by side. Susie looked up, “Why were you so mad Chase? Lexi promised she wasn’t leaving.” I sighed. Susie could hear the argument where Lexi couldn’t. I said, “Beta Alfred was being disrespectful. I can’t let him get away with that Susie.” Susie nodded, “But everything’s ok now?” I nodded. “Everything is fine. I’m sorry we woke you.” Susie nodded. She got up and gave me a hug. She whispered, “Don’t let anyone take her away Chase. She’s our princess. His words could hurt her feelings.” I hugged her tight, “I know. I won’t let him take her away Susie. She belongs here, with us.” Susie nodded. Nadine smiled, “Now let’s let Chase and Lexi talk.” I led Lexi back upstairs to our room.
