Surprise Attack Pt. 1

        Chase stared in shock at Heath Scott dressed as the Hood in his doorway. he was covered in blood. My heart dropped. The Hood spoke, “Is Lexi here?” I said, “She’s late.” The hood ran a hand through his hair. Nadine said, “Please come in.” He came in and paced. Ted said, “Why don’t you go to her?” The Hood said, “Fairy liaison hasn’t returned. She’s too far away. I won’t get there in time.” Ted said, “What happened?” The Hood looked around. I said, “No one here will speak of what you tell us.” The hood looked at me, “Swear it.” I rolled my eyes, “I swear no one here will speak about your missions.” The hood glared at me until Ted cleared his throat. The hood looked at him, “Zeke is missing. All of our mission’s tonight were traps.” Ted said, “Zeke? What about….” The Hood said, “Kylie is fine Ted. She held her own and got word to me that everything was a trap. Tate got to her quickly and the threat was neutralized. Now Tate’s looking for Zeke.” Ted frowned, “But Zeke was out as himself. He was just gathering intel.” The hood said, “I know.” Ted said, “If Tate went after Zeke…. Who is Lexi going after?” The Hood said, “Nathan.” Cameron said, “Oh fuck.” I said, “NATHAN CALVERT? ARE YOU f*****g SERIOUS?!” The hood said, “He’s not his like brother.” I got in his face, “Has he f*****g proved that? This could all be a damn trap! Your leak could be working WITH Noah!” The Hood said, “I would not endanger her.” 

            Bolt took over and punched him in the face. “YOU DID ENDANGER HER!” The hood smiled. I knew right then and there that this was why he came. He wanted to fight, and for some reason he wanted to fight me. We circled each other and fought. Matt was holding back Ted. Derrick had Sally behind him while my dad looked pained anytime I took a hit. Heath and I were fairly even fighting wise, but neither of us were trying too hard to hurt the other. Finally Sally pushed Derrick aside. She yelled, “ENOUGH! Both of you! This is NOT going to help Lexi!” The Hood’s phone rang. I put my hands down. As he read his text his facial expression was not making me happy. I said, “What?” He ignored me. Ted said, “Please….is she ok?” The Hood looked at him, “Noah, Zeke, and our liaison are back. The liaison was commanded by the princess to not return. He’s refusing to bring them back.” Ted said, “Haley is with her?” The Hood said, “Evidently.” Matt’s phone rang. He linked me, “It’s Beta Caleb.” I closed my eyes. Matt answered, “Beta Caleb.” Beta Caleb said, “Uh huh. Happy f*****g Thanksgiving Beta Matt. My Alpha is SCREAMING in my head because Haley has popped off somewhere with a friend. Now she is in apparently A LOT of pain. We might be calling our allies to go bring her home…. again. One can never know. Can you let Alpha Chase know?” I knew I was pale. My dad put his hand on my shoulder. Beta Caleb sighed, “Never mind. She’s back apparently. I’m going to have to get back to the kitchen to calm down my Alpha. There was apparently an explosion of some kind based on the state of their clothes. He’s rip roaring mad.” 

            Matt said, “I’d imagine his mate will calm him down.” Beta Caleb snorted, “Then I’ll have to tear them apart because Haley REALLY wants Thanksgiving dinner to go well.” Matt said, “I wish you luck.” He hung up, “Chase they are ok.” I said, “He didn’t say anything about her friend.” The hood said, “Haley wouldn’t leave Lexi. Even you know that Alpha Chase.” Matt linked me, “Don’t punch him again.” I said, “Why not? I’d feel better.” Matt said, “Lexi wouldn’t.” The Hood’s phone rang. “Bjourn.” Bjourn said, “Ahh the Hood. You have been causing all KINDS of trouble in my life lately. If I were you. I’d stop. I dislike feeling my sister in pain.” The Hood said, “I didn’t call her.” Bjourn said, “Your fault all the same. Lexi is worried about you. She can’t find you.” The Hood said, “I’m on my way.” He zoomed out of the door. A few minutes later Ted and I both got texts. I said, “She said she’s running late, and she’ll be here soon.” Everyone breathed easier, but Ted and I were still pacing. Matt said, “Can’t you just sit down?” I said, “If it was Ted...Would you sit down?” Matt sighed, “No.” Ted said, “This is just as bad as her emergency calls.” I said, “Emergency Calls?” Ted said, “She…. she has a system. People can reach out to her for help. A horrible alarm sounds on her phone with a code she assigns of who’s calling her. Just prepare yourself should you be with her and it goes off. It’s awful. She goes in blind.” 

            Matt winced. I said, “Blind?” Ted said, “She doesn’t know why they called her, just that they did.” I said, “Oh well isn’t that great.” Ted said, “She’s always fine.” I said, “Well that makes it so much better. Oh wait….no going in blind never does anyone any good.” Ted snorted, “Say that to Haley when I’m around. She gets her protection called upon and goes in blind...every time.” I said, “Well f**k you Ted! Now, I’ve got to feel sorry for Alpha Conners.” Matt linked, “Your mate has a calling card. That has to be what Ted is talking about.” I replied, “OF COURSE she does. She has a moniker.” Matt linked, “If you ask him what hers is…. we could figure out WHO she is.” I said, “Ted, what does she give people so they can call her?” Ted snorted, “I can’t tell you that.” I smirked, “So that would tell me who she is?” Ted said, “Everyone has a unique calling card Alpha Chase. It would tell you who any of them are if you knew their real identity and they gave it to you.” I was about to answer when someone ran through the front door. I turned. It was Lexi. It was as if air had been breathed into my lungs. She apologized for being late, and I went to her scooping her up. This was torture. When she got pregnant her brother would have to deal without her. Maybe even when I marked her. Although I could have a hint at her emotions when I finally marked her. Bolt said, “I’m just saying…. It would solve A LOT of problems.” 

            I jokingly told her she was late for dinner. I had to stop to breathe in her scent. My dad linked me, “She’s here and she’s fine Chase.” I told her the rest of my joke, and she laughed. Matt linked, “That was a pity laugh. If you’d told it all together….it could be real.” I linked, “Shut up.” Lexi turned to face everyone. Cameron linked me, “She’s going to take ten years off all our lives with this shit.” I linked back, “Going to?” My dad stood to hug her followed by Nadine. Susie cut in front of Cameron. Susie said, “Hi Lexi! Everyone was worried, but I knew you’d be fine. You’re SUPER fast!” Lexi laughed, “I am super fast.” The happiness on Lexi’s face as each member hugged her couldn't be contained. Bolt linked, “She belongs here with us.” I said, “I know she does.” We all sat down. Sally and Nadine took everything out of the oven. I guess they’d moved everything back to keep it warm. My dad carved the turkey since we’d sent the staff home to be with their families. We sat and laughed for hours. Nadine made her thanksgiving cocktail for the girls while they cleaned up. My dad sat down, “You look happy with her Chase. You two are striking together.” My dad looked between Cameron and I, “I’m not getting any younger you two. A grandchild would be welcomed.” I choked on my beer. Cameron laughed, “We should be able to give you one after Reagan’s next heat.” My dad gave us both pointed looks, “Then you two BETTER figure out how to join our packs before my grandchild is born.” Cameron said, “Ummm that would be several months ahead of when the plans say work will be complete.”

            My dad shrugged. Isaac laughed, “I’ve got you there. Matt, Ted, and Joanie plan to start their journey after it’s finished. We will all be in the same place, and I cannot thank you enough for that son. Your mother would be madder than a hornet.” Isabell walked into the room and snorted, “I’ve got three grandchildren now. NONE of whom live here!” Isaac snorted, “It’s a MAYBE thirty-minute run to see them, and you make it several times a week.” Isabella said, “Yes, and I will continue to do so. They are all cuties, but to have one here. That I could see and help with all the time…. well….” We all laughed. Ted said, “Oh, I was going to ask if you wanted to stay with us for the first two weeks after the baby is born.” Everyone turned to Ted in shock. Ted said, “What? My mom wants to take the second two weeks. Based on when all this is going on Tate will be out on missions the second two weeks. It will distract her. I guess we should factor in Joanie’s mom too.” Isabella said, “Stay with you? Really?” Ted said, “Yeah, I mean we will all need to get sleep. An extra pair of hands can’t hurt, and ...I mean if you don’t want to that’s fine! You’re not far away...” Isabella cut him off by hugging him tight. She looked at Matt, “I love him Matthew. I would love to stay with you the first two weeks Ted. I’ll talk to Joanie’s mom. Since Joanie’s got her own separate house her mom could stay there if she wanted.” Isaac said, “And leave me all alone getting in all that time with our grandbaby? I don’t think so! I’m coming too.” Matt snorted, “Fine. Everyone is invited for the first two weeks.” Isaac smiled, “I did love those first couple weeks bringing you all home. You were all so different. It was better when you started sleeping more though. So much better.” We all started laughing.

            The rest of the girls came in and sat down. Derrick’s parents walked inside. “Sorry we missed dinner! What did we miss?” Sally walked over and hugged them. They beamed at her. She said, “Actually you’re just in time! I was just about to hand out pie.” Lexi was grinning. “I’ll help you pass them out.” They started to leave then both turned around, “Ted?” Ted sighed, “Oh fine.” He followed after them. After several moments, we heard Ted’s squeal from the kitchen. Matt stood as we heard two slaps probably on the arm. Matt frowned then sat down, “He says it’s his favorite dessert.” I linked him, “Why do you have that look?” Matt said, “He’s lying.” I linked, “I’m sure we will find out soon.” The girls came back with Ted, and they all passed out pie. Sally gave Derrick his piece last and they all sat down. Lexi nor Ted were eating their pie. They were just staring at Derrick. I linked Matt, “What the hell is going on?” Matt said, “I don’t know.” Derrick bit into his pie. Sally put her fork down and just looked at him. I linked Matt, “Look at his plate.”  Matt’s eyes went wide, “OH MY GOD!” Derrick turned to Sally, “This is amazing sweetie pie. It’s a good thing I’m a werewolf or with all your amazing cooking…. I’d have to join a gym.” She smiled at him and he stuck his fork back into his pie. My dad linked me, “Is that…?” I linked back, “Yes.” Derrick’s fork stopped and he frowned. He looked at the pie and he dropped the plate plucking out the binky that was stuck in his pie. “Sally….” Sally smiled, “Yes?” Derrick held up the binky. “Are you…?” Sally squealed, “YES!” Everyone jumped up yelling congratulations. Derrick swung Sally around. 

            He kissed her. “I love you Sally.” She smiled, “I love you too.” Lexi and Ted hugged Sally as the rest of us hugged Derrick. Reagan grabbed Sally the second she was free. “GOD! This was such a hard secret to keep! I’ve had to avoid my little brother.” Derrick said, “YOU KNEW?!” Cameron said, “You did?” Reagan said, “I was with Sally when Haley popped in. She wanted to see if her google recipe for her Thanksgiving pie was right. Sally added a few things, and then she told Sally she was glowing.” Cameron said, “I didn’t even know you were hanging out at her shop.” Reagan said, “Cameron, she’s my brother’s mate. Of COURSE I’m getting to know her.” Derrick’s parents hugged Sally, “This is so great!” I hugged Derrick, “I’m so happy for you man. I know you’ve always wanted a big family.” Sally smiled, “Yup, we are the trial couple for Hood/werewolf babies. We’ll just have to see how long this one cooks. We have an appointment tomorrow with the pack ob.” Derrick was stunned, “And she didn’t tell me?” Sally laughed, “Swore her to secrecy.” Susie asked, “What about Chase and Lexi? When are you guys going to have a pup?” Nadine said, “Susie!” Susie said, “What? It would be fun to have cousins!” I said, “Lexi and I haven’t planned that out yet Susie.” Susie frowned, “But Matt and Ted will have a pup this summer, Sally will have one soon. Reagan and Cam will too. Chase and his princess have to have one too!” Matt linked me, “Your mate had a longing look for a whole five seconds before she noticed Nadine and I looked at her.” 

            I couldn’t process that. I told Susie, “Lexi and I will have a pup when we are ready, ok? Right now, we are going to be REALLY happy for Sally and Derrick.” Susie sighed, “I am.” I laughed, “Tell your face that squirt.” Susie stuck her tongue out at me. Then she turned to her mom, “Maybe you could give me a sibling.” We all laughed as Nadine turned red. Derrick didn’t let Sally out of his sight the rest of the night. Eventually, everyone left. I asked Lexi, “Want to sleep here or your place?” She smiled softly, “Here is fine.” We went upstairs quietly, “This was a lot of fun. Once I got here.” She winked. I pulled her to me. “You’re going to take years off my life woman.” She laughed, “Aww come on!” I smiled. She said, “Crazy about Derrick and Sally isn’t it? She was so excited to tell him.” I laughed, “When did she tell you?” Lexi smiled, “She sent me a text when we were in the kitchen.” I said, “That’s what Ted squealed about?” Lexi snorted, “Yes. She told him by putting the binky into the pie. We didn’t want anyone to come running him so we both slapped him on the arm.” I laughed, “He’s just not used to werewolf hearing yet. It happens.” Lexi bit her lip. She seemed nervous. I said, “Hey…. What’s bothering you?” She shrugged, “Just thinking.” I said, “About what?” She said, “Do you think a few years is too long? I know we are young, but…” I kissed her. “Whenever you want to try for a pup is fine with me.” Lexi teased me, “Even if your situation is still going on?” I laughed, “That has a drop dead date, that your best friend/little sister says doesn’t work for her. She wants it to be sooner.” 

Lexi snorted, “Oh my god. She didn’t say that.” I said, “Oh… she did. With more color language.” Lexi said, “Sounds like her. Why doesn’t it work for her?” I raised an eyebrow, “You. You are why none of this works for her. She wants you to be happy.” She smiled and straddled me. “I am happy.” She threw my shirt off and kissed me. I kissed her back. I threw her shirt off and flipped us onto the bed. I said, “I love you Lexi Scott.” She smiled, “I love you too, Chase Daniels.” I made love to her all night. We fell asleep in each other’s arms. When I woke up Lexi wasn’t in bed. I found a note.

I was about to get in the shower when the pack link went crazy. “ROUGES!” I ran down the stairs. Nadine was at the door, “Get Susie to the safe room!” I yelled. Susie was trying to run after me, “Be careful Chase!” I shifted at the door. Derrick was fighting along with Matt. I linked, “HOW THE f**k DID THEY GET THIS CLOSE?!” Matt linked, “They don’t smell Chase.” I took a deep inhale. He was right. Haley Conners was right. Witches did suck. We pushed them back, killing them. Nadine linked, “I’m hurt. They took Susie…. My legs…. SAVE SUSIE! FRANK DANIELS, YOU SAVE OUR DAUGHTER!” I froze. I whirled and was cut off by rogues. I linked Matt, “THE f**k?!” Matt turned, “Did they just appear out of nowhere.” I linked, “EVERYONE GET TO THE MAIN HOUSE? DAD WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?” Nothing. I linked Cameron, “WE NEED HELP!” Cameron linked, “Kind of busy at the moment!” I whipped my head around as a black wolf appeared with four more. They were helping us tear through them. I linked, “Alpha Conners, they took my sister! I need to get to her.” Alpha Conners linked back, “I’d say Haley could get her, but Haley is in the ribbon.” I said, “The what?” Alpha Conners hissed, “Too long to explain. She can’t help us right now.” 

            When we’d managed to kill the last of the rogues. I took off for the main house with Derrick and Matt on my heels. Derrick linked, “Wait! Sally has her!” We turned towards Sally’s house. I shifted and grabbed shorts. Susie was crying. I took her out of Sally’s arms. Derrick went to Sally. I said, “Susie, it’s ok. I’ve got you.” Matt linked, “Holy shit.” I looked up. Arrows were all around us buried in bodies. There were fifty dead rogues outside Sally’s place. One…. was viciously killed and tied to a tree. Susie said, “Momma…. momma is hurt.” I linked Matt, “Where are our fathers?” Matt said, “I don’t know they aren’t answering me.” Coldness creeped into my bones. Susie said, “They were so mean Chase! The one guy grabbed mom by the hair just as she was about to close the safe door.” I linked the pack, “Someone get Nadine to the hospital, and FIND my dad NOW!” Alpha Conners linked, “We’ve gone to your brother’s territory. He’s being attacked as well.” I yelled, “f**k!” Sally said, “Chase! Little ears!” I handed Susie back to Sally, “Get inside with Sally. Do NOT come out unless I tell you to or Isabella. Listen to Miss Sally until I get back.” Susie said, “The Black Arrow saved me Chase. She gave me this.” She held up a necklace that was the Black Arrow’s calling card. I glanced at Sally stunned, “Did you call the Black Arrow?” Sally pulled an identical necklace out from under her shirt. Derrick kissed her, “Get inside.” Sally took Susie and we all took off for Cameron’s. If we’d thought we’d been hit at our pack, Cameron was getting hit ten times harder. I linked Bolt, “Where is Lexi?” Bolt said, “All I can tell you is she’s around. I can feel her presence near us.” I said, “Does that mean she’s in her house? Or is she in Cameron’s territory?” Bolt said, “I’m not a GPS locator Chase! I don’t know. If you’d MARK HER...I could help you.” 

            I saw Cameron about to be overwhelmed by rogues. Red tinted my vision and I jumped into the fray. We fought back to back like we’d done since we were children. I linked my pack, “We need ten more warriors to get to Cameron’s. NOW! I don’t care who comes. Kincade!” He linked back, “On my way with nine other warriors Alpha!” More of Alpha Conners warriors arrived. I recognized their head warrior, Liam’s wolf right away. He was a charcoal grey wolf. We heard a howl, and I saw Sophia and a wolf I’d never seen beside her jump into the chaos. We’d managed to get everything under control when Cameron took off like a shot. I linked, “Cameron?” He linked back, “Reagan is fighting on the other side of the territory. She stopped linking me.” I followed him. When we were halfway there, we started to see naked men with arrows sticking out of them. Bolt linked, “Does she have an enchanted unlimited supply of arrows?” I linked back, “Probably.” Bolt seemed proud, “She’s good.” We found some warriors cleaning up. Cameron shifted, “WHERE IS REAGAN?!” They both looked at each other, “The Black Arrow took her to the hospital. She was thrown into a tree and hit her head.” I asked, “Where’s the Black Arrow?” They shrugged. Cameron said, “She was spotted fighting a few minutes ago on another border. I sighed, “This isn’t over?” I linked Kevin, “Are our borders secure? Have you found my father?” Kevin replied, “We are secure. Your father and Isaac were brought into our hospital.” I said, “What’s wrong with them?” Kevin replied, “Both were knocked unconscious.” I said, “Who brought them in?” I was thinking I already knew the answer. Kevin said, “The Black Arrow.” 

            Out loud I said, “MY GOD. Is she superwoman or something?!” Cameron said, “Who?” I said, “The woman who single handedly saved over HALF our damn family today.” Cameron said, “What do you mean?” I said, “Susie was kidnapped.” Cameron growled. I held up my hands, “She was saved by the Black Arrow.” Cameron said, “Like Reagan.” I nodded, “So was our father and Isaac.” Cameron said, “Did the old man lose all his skills? He used to never get injured. Now he’s been injured twice recently.” Alpha Conners linked me, “We are heading home. My lead warrior is quite impressed with yours.” I linked back, “That’s probably for the best.” Alpha Conners laughed, “Yes, according to my wife…. it’s probably a very good thing.” I linked back, “Haley told you?” Alpha Conners replied, “About Carry and Kincade? Yes, she did. We’ll have to remind Liam he told Kincade he was a good fighter, and he would fight beside him any time after January second.” I replied, “On January second. He’s coming with us to the meeting.” Alpha Conners laughed, “Oh good. That meeting needed something else to focus on. I’m going to have lots of guests that day.” I replied, “Lots of guests?” Alpha Conners said, “A few representatives of the Earth Fae that live in Ireland that do not recognize King Aiden are coming to my house. Probably with the intent to take MY mate. In which case…. we’ll all get to take a break to kill something. Based on the meeting we are coming together for. I’d imagine that would be nice for us all.” I linked back, “Is it wrong I hope they twitch in Haley’s direction so we can kill them.” Alpha Conners said, “No.”
