Confusing Dreams Pt. 3

Derrick said, “Brilliant!” He left. Matt said, “If the princess pops Sally to Lexi and Ted….and see you with her… What then?” I said, “Then the chips have landed. The goddess have spoken, and I’ll mark Lexi.” Matt said, “Oh really? More BA dream?” I groaned, “This time it was the Black Arrow and Lexi. Since when do you call her BA?” Matt said, “Ted ALWAYS calls her BA it slips out of my mouth now. So now you’re dreaming about them both?” I said, “Yes. They seem cool with it. They tease me.” Matt laughed, “Of course they do. It’s your subconscious Chase.” Derrick came back, “Lunch is planned.” I nodded. We all got to work. When lunch rolled around, we packed up what the kitchen had made and got in a car. Matt smiled. I said, “Is Ted excited?” Matt said, “Oh, I want to surprise him.” 

            We walked in and handed lunch to Kevin, Kincade, Mark, and Joanie. They smiled and we all walked into the office. Ted looked up and paled. “Umm hi guys.” I said, “I’m going to grab Lexi.” Ted blurred in front of her office door, “Ummm… she’s very busy.” I frowned, “Ted...I brought her lunch.” Ted said, “That’s so sweet. Aren’t you a sweet Alpha male? Lexi is busy though. I’ll give it to her. No time to chat! Bye now!” I said, “Lexi said you didn’t have a big event this week.” Ted said, “Not this week, no. Lots of little things. Now, it’s time for the wolves to go now.” Matt said, “Ted… I know you’re lying.” Ted shot him a look. I got a bad feeling. “Where is Lexi?” I pushed past Ted and opened the door. Lexi’s scent was in here, but she wasn’t anywhere to be found. I whirled, “Ted? Where is she?” Ted sighed, “I don’t know. She said she had something to do, and she’d back tonight.” I growled, “Is this a hood mission?” Ted said, “I really don’t know. She said it was a secret.” Kevin growled, “How did we not know she left?” Ted said, “Umm…. you all do know we are freaky fast right? Lexi is faster than the majority of us.” Kevin growled so did Kincade. I said, “Don’t lie to me ever again Ted.” Ted said, “I stand with my girl, always Alpha.” I said, “I am TRYING to protect her.” Ted said, “She can take care of herself. She’s independent. You can’t pin her down.” I said, “I’m not TRYING to pin her down. I just want to know what’s going on!” Ted said, “I can’t tell you because I honestly don’t know.” I took a deep breath. “Let’s eat lunch anyway.” 

        We ate. The hours ticked by and I paced. Lexi’s phone was off. It was going directly to voicemail. Finally Ted said, “If she IS on a mission, she can’t answer her phone.” I growled and kept pacing. Finally I sat down running my hands through my hair. Matt said, “I’m sure she’s fine.” I said, “If she wasn’t, I’d never know because I can’t f*****g mark her!”  It was almost five when Lexi blurred into the room. She squeaked in surprise seeing all of us. Seeing that she was fine my anger fired on all cylinders. She knew that she had people after her. She couldn’t just shake us, and not let us know she was doing something. I tried to take a calming breath, but my voice still came out as a growl when I asked where she had been. She gulped. Pain hit me. I didn’t mean to scare her. We all turned to the door when someone said, “With me.” My jaw hit the ground, “Dad?” My dad said, “Yes, son. Now if you’ll excuse me. Lexi and I need to chat.” I growled, “You’ve been with her all damn day!” My dad nodded, “Most of the day. She followed along after me. I have an appointment with her and everything.” Ted said, “He does.” I growled and stormed out of the room. Matt stepped out last and shut the door. I yelled, “WHAT THE HELL?!” Matt said, “They can probably hear you.” Ted said, “No they can’t. You can’t hear in or outside of the office.” I said, “Thank you Ted. I repeat. WHAT THE HELL?” Matt said, “I’d say your birthday, but that’s not until the spring. Maybe it’s a long planning process.” I growled. I started pacing again. Ted sighed. Matt said, “Oh good. We’ve started pacing again.” After thirty minutes Lexi and my dad stepped out of her office. 

            “What is going on?” I yelled.” My dad said, “Bonding time with my future daughter in law. You know I wouldn’t let anything happen to her Chase.” I growled, “Don’t shake Kevin and Kincade.” Lexi sighed, “I’m sorry about that.” Kincade said, “At least a heads up would’ve been nice.” Lexi said, “I can do that.” I was about to continue when Derrick stiffened. A second later Sally Quaid blurred into the room. “Hey guys guess who's back?” Her voice faded as she stared at Derrick. He growled, “MINE!” He looked like he was forcing himself to stay put. Sally field, “Well hey there handsome!” She jumped into his arms. “I’ve been dreaming about you.” She kissed him much to his surprise. He responded. When they finally broke apart Sally said, “Lex, Ted, we will have to catch up another time. Come on wolf man.” He said, “Derrick. My name is Derrick.” She laughed, “I’ve been calling you wolf man. Derrick will take some getting used to.” She led Derrick from the room who followed her in a trance practically. Matt yelled, “Congrats man!” I said, “Congratulations Derrick.” Lexi was grinning from ear to ear. Ted said, “He better treat her right. She deserves it.” Matt said, “Babe, you know he will.” Ted said, “He’d better. She deserves the world.” Lexi smiled, “They be fine Ted. Sally spoke to the war goddess.” Ted’s jaw dropped, “YOU’VE SITTING ON THAT?! TELL ME EVERYTHING!” Lexi laughed, “She couldn’t see Derrick’s face, but the goddess showed her their life together and their kids.” She turned to me, “I think her guards should still be doubled until we find Noah. She will let Derrick mark her, but…” I said, “I have no intention of letting anything happen to her. I’ll see you later.” My dad made a face, but I left. Matt was hot on my heels. 

            I slammed the car to my door. “Ooff. What did the car door to you?” I glared at him. I linked Kincade and Kevin, “Stay outside her place tonight.” They linked back, “Yes, Alpha.” Lexi called me, but I didn’t answer. Matt said, “What’s the plan here?” I said, “You go spend time with your mate. I’m going to spend time with my brother.” Matt said, “Chase… talk to her.” I said, “Why? So she can go behind back when someone is ACTIVELY trying to kill her?! She could’ve gotten hurt!” Matt said, “With your dad? Come on. At least answer her call.” I growled, “Like she answered mine?” Matt said, “Are you a child? ANSWER your damn phone!” I growled, “I’m the Alpha here Matt.” Matt said, “And I’m the beta. It’s my job to tell you when you’re being an i***t. Spoiler alert…. YOU are being an i***t! She hurt your pride. You can be mad, but if you don’t talk to her; you’re just as guilty as she is. She deals in secrets, Chase. That’s what her people do. You can’t expect her to change that on a dime for you, when you have your fair share of secrets right now.” I said, “She ASKED me to keep that secret.” Matt said, “I’m just saying. Talk to her.” I growled at him but picked up my phone.

            “Lexi.” I said. Lexi said, “Chase…. Why did you just leave?” I said, “Like you did?” Lexi said, “I didn’t walk out on you Chase.” I said, “You left your protection Lexi.” Lexi said, “Honestly, I’m not used to having protection. It takes some getting used to.” I took a deep breath. “I need to run off some energy. I was really worried about you.” Lexi said, “Ok, I’ll just have a girl’s night tonight.” Matt glared at me. I said, “I’ll see you later ok?” Lexi said, “I’m inviting Haley so…. I’ll call you when she leaves.” I said, “Alright. I love you Lexi.” Lexi said, “Yeah...ok. Bye.” I winced. Matt said, “Well, I’ll just run with you to Cameron’s since Ted will be involved in their girl’s night.” I said, “I’m sorry Matt, but I can’t just shut it off. I feel inadequate as her mate anyway. Then she runs off. I didn’t know where she was. I just needed her to let me know what she was taking off. What are her and my dad up to?” Matt said, “What does that matter? They don’t hate each other. That’s a good thing.” I sighed. I shifted and ran to Cameron’s. 

            Reagan was standing there with her hands on her hips. “What did you do?” She asked me. I said, “Why do you think I did anything?” Reagan just raised an eyebrow as Matt, and I grabbed shorts. I didn’t say anything. She sighed, “He’s in his office. Waiting for you.” Cameron was sitting at his desk. “Chase. I a report that you and your Beta ran past our border.” I said, “I figured you would.” Cameron said, “What happened?” I said, “Lexi took off today. Ditched Kincade and Kevin and took off.” Cameron said, “I’d ask how, but she’s hood. Why?” I said, “I don’t know. She was doing something with dad.” Cameron said, “DAD? What?!” I said, “They started over and have some secret project going on together. Dad told me he was going on some day trip. He failed to mention it was with her.” Cameron said, “So the reason you are here instead of with Lexi is because?” I said, “I’m pissed Cameron! That’s why! She’s now with the fairy princess for some girl’s night.” Cameron frowned, “Even if you're pissed Chase. You talk to your mate.” I said, “I didn’t want to yell at her. I wanted to calm down.” Cameron said, “Ok…. Let’s get ourselves a beer.” We all walked out and started drinking. I said, “How can I protect her? She can just ditch my men. They had NO f*****g idea she was gone. Not even a clue.” Matt said, “Not to be that guy, but can we remember what week it is? Ted told me after their shroud visit.” I paled. I was an ass. Cameron said, “What week is it?” I said, “The anniversary of her parent’s death.” Cameron said, “We need more beer. You’ve stepped in it big brother.” I sighed, “I already feel like s**t Cameron.”

            Cameron frowned, “Because she slipped your guys? That doesn't make sense Chase.” Matt laughed, “He’s hung up on the Black Arrow.” Cameron’s eyebrows hit the top of his forehead. “What?” I said, “I think she’s my second chance mate. Bolt thinks because we haven’t marked Lexi both bonds are going. I dream about the Black Arrow.” Cameron tried not to, but he ended up laughing. I said, “I’m glad my misery is funny to you little brother.” Cameron said, “It’s a dream, Chase. I had a dream once that I was fighting a mattress, and it won. You know what that means? Nothing.” I sighed, “I feel like the world’s worst mate.” Cameron said, “You aren’t winning any prizes tonight, but your dreams…. Are just dreams Chase. Don’t let that ruin your reality. You know. When you’re awake, and not sleeping.” The three of us drank until we were a little tipsy. It was harder as werewolves, but not impossible. My phone rang. I smiled, “Hello sweetheart.” Lexi giggled, “You called me sweetheart. You were mad at me earlier. I didn’t even get a kiss.” I laughed, “I was scared.” Lexi said, “Ohhhh the big bad Alpha was scared. Why?” I said, “You could’ve gotten hurt.” Lexi laughed, “I’m tough. I can kick ass.” I said, “I’d like to see that.” Lexi laughed again, “Ohhh…. Ted said you have a gym. I could fight someone!” I said, “I’d prefer if you didn’t.” Lexi laughed, “I’d bet it would get you all hot and bothered. You’d forget about being mad at me.” I said, “I’m not mad anymore.” Lexi said, “YAY! Are you coming home?” I smiled, “I’m on the way sweetheart.” I hung up. Reagan said, “Thank god. Go.” I shifted. Matt followed. It wasn’t our best run. 

            He veered off at Ted’s. I ran to Lexi’s. I walked in and was greeted by her moaning. I slammed the door shut and ran upstairs. “Chase!” Lexi screamed. I slammed her door open. She was using her vibrator. I growled. I walked over to her and took it from her. I began to pump it inside her and started to lick her c**t. She was screaming in seconds. Her legs were trembling. “Chase...please...I…” I didn’t stop. I didn’t even acknowledge her plea’s. Eventually when I stopped, I trailed kisses up her body. I entered her slowly. Her little moan when I was fully inside her warmed me to my core. I whispered, “I love you Lexi.” She giggled and tapped the end of my nose with her index finger. “I love you too. Don’t tell Chase.” I laughed, “Our secret.” I made love to her until neither of us could go any longer. I pulled her to me and fell asleep. 

            When I woke up Lexi was smiling at me. “You came home.” I smiled, “I’ll always come home to you Lexi.” She said, “I’m sorry I took off. It’s a habit.” I said, “I’m sorry I left and ignored you.” She said, “You didn’t ignore me.” I said, “Matt told me to talk to you. I was going to ignore you.” Lexi shrugged, “You didn’t though.” I smiled, “How was girls’ night?” Lexi laughed, “Productive. Haley helped me get all the names of those with P.O Boxes at my place. I gave them to Heath.” I said, “Why?” Lexi said, “I think I ran into someone I’m related to that night you drove me there. I got this flash of a man. I think he said his name was James. There were a few people named James on the list. Heath said he was going to look into them all.” I said, “Did you run into Alfred?” I growled his name. Lexi laughed, “No. We didn’t run into anyone. That was the whole point.” She sighed, “I guess I should get ready for work. We have a lunch we are doing today. I need to set up.” She rolled over and got into the shower. I followed her. I took her again in the shower. I kissed her before I opened her car door. Matt linked me, “Your wife is here. In your office” I growled, “Don’t call her that.” I shifted and ran back to the house. Sophia was sitting in on my guest chairs. She has tears streaming down her face. I closed the door, “Sophia?” She wiped her eyes, “I have alerts on searches done on my dad's name Chase. What are you looking for? Keep in mind…. I have a good idea based on what I found.” 

            I linked Matt, “f**k!” I said, “I simply want to look into his death. A Werewolf getting sick… it’s odd.” Sophia studied me then pulled out a massive file. “I opened it and glanced up at her startled. “Sophia….” Sophia said, “It was always weird to me. No one would tell me what happened to my mother. My father couldn’t bring himself to talk about it. Towards the end. We had a lot of talks, my dad and me. The doctors told me he wasn’t fully aware at the end, but we had several lucid conversations. My dad’s last words to me Chase were ‘Avenge us. No matter how you have to do that. Avenge us.’” Matt and I both gaped. I said, “You’ve been looking into their death… For four years.” Sophia said, “Yes. I know it’s someone in the pack. I just don’t know who. I know they have outside help, but I don’t know why. I have to do this Chase. For my family.” I said, “Sophia….” She looked up, “I just need a little more time. I’m close, Chase. I can feel it.” I said, “Alpha Conners is helping me look Sophia. We will solve this.” Sophia said, “My dad asked me. I have to do this for him. For my mother.” I said, “This file says she was murdered, Sophia. We have to have that investigated.” Sophia said, “I am investigating. I’ve just done it quietly. They think I’m the meek little girl they forced to get married to keep power. They don’t know that I’ve been onto them since day one. I feel like it’s all connected now, Chase. There’s this play to take over my pack. To have me forcibly….” Her voice broke, “Marked. They don’t want me dead. Why? They killed my family, but me they… What? What was the plan? I can’t make sense of it.” I said, “I’ll look into all of this Sophia.” She nodded, “I have to go.” I said, “Where?” Sophia said, “I’m taking a quick trip. I’m going to Kentucky.” 

            I looked at Matt who shrugged. I asked, “Why?” Sophia smiled softly, “I’m meeting someone. I think they are trustworthy. We are meeting in the middle of both of us.” I said, “Middle? Sophia don’t meet anyone from Missouri. We are having problems with them right now for some reason.” Sophia said, “They are from Illinois.” I said, “They?” Sophia nodded, “This guy and his mate.” I said, “What guy?” She smiled, “His name is Tyson and her’s is Ashley. I really need to get on the road.” She picked up her file. She put a flash drive down, “It’s all on here. I made you a copy.” I nodded, “I’ll look into everything Sophia.” She nodded, “Second pair of eyes couldn’t hurt.” I said, “One last thing. How did you lie to Haley that day? This has to be why you stalled our annulment.” Sophia said, “No, it’s not. There may be more to my reason, but betrayal is why I stalled. I’ve known about this since before we got married, Chase. I thought I had more of the pack’s loyalty. I thought I’d prove myself. I didn’t think there would be a coup to take over. I was naive. This is about so much more than letting me prove myself. Someone’s out for blood, and they’ve gotten it. They can’t have mine too.” I said, “I won’t let you be killed Sophia.” Sophia smiled, “If my Gamma had stuck a knife in my back Chase, you would’ve avenged me. You couldn’t have stopped him though.” I frowned, “Stay safe. Are you sure this guy is on the level?” Sophia nodded, “I am. Someone I trust told me that Tyson’s call was coming before I got it. I’m glad they did, or I might have hung up.” She laughed and left.

            My office phone rang, “Alpha Chase.” Heath’s panicked voice came across the phone, “Where is Lexi? She’s not answering her phone!” I said, “She had an event today. Why?” Heath said, “We have a hood member down in your area. Cops are involved. I can’t get in.” My heart dropped, “Down as in….” Heath said, “I don’t know. Someone is down. They are hurt. FIND HER! I’m calling Haley. She can probably get in.” He hung up. I linked Kevin and Kincade. Nothing. I looked at Matt, “Joanie and Mark aren’t answering their links.” I said, “Kevin nor Kincade either.” I called Lexi. Voicemail. A warrior came into the office, “Alpha….” I said, “I’m busy!” The warrior said, “We...got a call...Kincade’s on the phone.” I breathed a sigh in relief, “Kincade.” Kincade said, “Alpha… you need to get down here. I think a witch is here. I can’t even link Kevin and he’s standing right next to me.” I said, “Is Lexi ok?” Kincade took a deep breath, “She’s being questioned for attempted murder.” I said, “SHE WHAT?!” Kincade said, “She didn’t do it.” I closed my eyes. “What did Lexi say?” Kincade said, “She’s giving multiple witnesses to her whereabouts. Something is off with these cops. They aren’t human, and they won’t listen to anyone…. They just want to arrest her. Wait, the fairy princess just walked in. I’ll call you back.” He hung up. Matt and I paced waiting for word anxiously.
