Protect Our Own Pt. 1

          Lexi woke up to her burner phone going off. s**t! I’d turned it on before I went to bed last night just in case. I jumped up. Only Ted and Haley had that number. I answered, “Ted? Are you alright? I’m so sorry! I told Heath not to bother you! If he scooped you up, I’ll get you out of there; after I kick his ass sister style.” Ted sighed in relief, “They didn’t get you either?” I said, “No. So, you’re safe?” I heard a low laugh. I smiled, “You’re safe with company. Thank god. Don’t go back to your place until I sort this out with Heath. What time is it?” Ted said, “I’m sorry it’s pretty early. Like four in the morning early. I was just worried. I knew you’d turn your other phone off and disconnect the SIM and battery so Heath couldn’t find you.” I laughed, “A bit redundant since even if he found me, he couldn’t get inside my place or see it. I’m in my fairy protected house. Being stalked by a smell… that I have started talking to…. like a lunatic. I ran back outside to DEMAND a smell tell me who it was. I swear to you Ted…. I have officially become paranoid.” Ted laughed, “I think you’re just tired, Lex. How did you get away from your brother? Heath is just as fast as you are.” I laughed, “Heath sent Isaiah to come get me.” Ted snorted, “He didn’t even chase you, did he?” I said, “We will maintain he did if anyone asks. I’m easily faster than him, chasing me would’ve been pointless. Thankfully Isaiah told me what was going on before we drove home. I’d have gotten out, but it would’ve been more complicated. I swear to GOD I may murder the lieutenant before this is all said and done. I cannot believe him. Why is he even monitoring Henrick’s activities?”

         I heard a voice ask, “Why do they not know Henrick is already dead? They wouldn’t come after you two if they knew that. They’d let you be.” I sighed, “I’m guessing that’s your brown wolf, Ted.” Ted giggled like a schoolgirl, “His name is Matt.” I said, ‘Well Ted’s brown wolf named Matt; they’d put Ted and I on a much longer lockdown if they knew Henrick had come after us. It would ruin the business we started, and leave our other friend hanging. She’s signed on contracts with us, and I don’t want to let her or Ted down. We’ve worked so hard, and I’m not letting some damn leak mess it up for us.”  Matt said, “So I’ll have my Alpha put the word out we were meeting with them, but they crossed us, so we killed him. That would have nothing to do with you.” I thought about that, “Do you know another Alpha around here that could do that? Your pack’s too close to us and so is Alpha Conners.” Matt said, “Henrick was staying in Red Run territory. Alpha Kyle would do that for us.” I said, “Thank you. Oh and thank you for helping us with Henrick the other day. Reagan told me I sent flowers to the wrong pack. I’m going to send your Alpha some today. “Matt said, “He loves dark chocolate.” I laughed, “Alright he gets dark chocolate. A favorite as mine as well.” Ted said, “OOHHHH girl… he’s the black wolf you thought was beautiful. He’s not my Matt, but for you…. I think we should double. He’s just your type, Lex.” My mind flashed to Haley saying my string was out there. “I don’t know that now is the time for that.” Ted said, “I know that you know you need to get laid. Ted knows it’s definitely time for that.” Matt choked on something.

        I sighed, “I have a vibrator Ted. You should know this, you bought it for me. I just don’t think…. Something about that black wolf just…. Take me off speaker.” Ted said, “Ok, off speaker.” I said, “I dreamed about that wolf the other night. Something about him pulls me in. You know I haven’t put my heart on the line since everything with Noah. I know that if I spend time with Chase…. He’ll have my whole heart. Plus… Haley told me she knows my string. I told her I still want to meet him without being told his name, but he’s got some situation going on that Haley is trying to fix. I know her though. If she can fix it, she’ll tell him who I am, and he’ll come find me. Before I wanted to wait for my string before Noah lied to me. I can’t do that now obviously, but I can make sure I’m not attached when he pops up.” Ted was quiet then said, “Lied to you?” Everything stopped. OH f**k ME! Come on Lex! I hadn’t meant to say that to him. Ted continued, “Lied to you about what Lex?” I literally couldn’t force words out of my mouth. I had lied many times, but I had never told Ted a lie. I may not tell him things, but I’ve never outright lied to Ted. “What did he do Lexi? Tell me about what happened. I won’t tell anyone…. Well Matt, but that’s... f**k it all to hell and back. Look I’ll tell you a secret of mine if you tell me yours.” I looked at the phone astonished, “I’m sorry, you…. TeleTed are keeping a secret?” Ted sighed, “It’s not for me that I’m keeping it. I’m a regular old lady at the hairdresser with her friends, but for the people that matter; I can keep a secret Lex.” I sighed, “Fine. You first.” Ted laughed, “Typical. Matt is my well... he says mate.” I shrieked, “WHAT? WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME?! I DEMAND to meet him formally as a human and not his wolf. Oh my god that’s why he got so angry when that guy started towards you. Oh my god…” I started to laugh, “You met your mate dressed as Stitch… in a onesie. GOD Ted that is SO you.” I heard laughter. “He can still hear us?” 

       Matt said, “Hello Lex. Can I call you that? Ted talks about you a lot and he calls you Lex so often it just slipped out.” I said, “You’re my best friend’s…. mate. God that’s weird to say. So hard not to say what we call it, but whatever. Point is, you can call me Lex.” Matt laughed, “You two could slip and say what you call it. That would be fine by me. I’m so curious. Anyway, werewolves have VERY good hearing.” I sighed, “Of course you do. I guess put me back on speaker Ted.” Ted said, “You are pointlessly back on speakerphone Lex.” I laughed, “I can’t believe you. Is that why you had on a scarf? Did he mark you?” Ted squealed, “Yes! LEX, I left my body and came back. The pleasure was so intensely amazing.” I laughed, “I’m glad you’re so happy, Ted. Damn I just thought he was that good in bed.” Ted said, “Oh… he is that good in bed, girl. I’m planning to keep this between us still. We obviously have a leak, and I don’t want them after him because of me.” I frowned, “Matt seems like a really strong wolf Ted. You don’t have to worry.” Ted snorted, “Do you tell the sun not to shine, girl?” I snorted, “No. You’re right. What was I thinking? Matt, Ted is the captain of the worry wart team.” Matt laughed, “I have noticed that about him.” I sighed, “He’s right though. There’s a leak, and it’s about me. You can keep him safe though, right?” Matt said, “I will keep him safe.” Ted said, “If you two are quite done making me want to throttle you both while kissing you both at the same time…. It’s your turn Lex. What did Noah lie to you about?”

      I sighed, “I only say this with Matt on the phone because as your st... BLAH it’s so hard. Your mate, you’d just tell him anyway. Until recently, I thought I was the only person who knew about this.” Ted said, “The HELL girl? Who else knows?” I said, “We will get to that. The night before our ceremony Noah snuck over to my place.” Ted said, “THAT fucker! I went a whole month without you, and he had the AUDACITY to tell me I couldn’t see you. We all knew you weren’t my f*****g person. I’m older than you, and VERY gay! Openly VERY gay!” I said, “You’re only older than me by six months Ted.” Ted said, “STILL older. Continue. Noah is a hypocrite and….” I laughed, “He told me…. He told me he’d felt the pull to me since he was eighteen.” Ted gasped, “THAT MOTHER f*****g ASSHOLE! I’ll f*****g kill him! He TRICKED you into sleeping with him?” Matt said, “Wait…. What?” Ted said, “You felt a pull to me in some wolf way, right?” Matt laughed, “Yes.” Ted said, “We feel our people’s version of that too. You don’t really even understand what it is until you are standing in front of your…. Person that’s meant for you. It’s how it works for us.” Matt said, “Ok…. was hoping that would give me a clue as what the hell you two are, but…. I’ve got nothing.” Ted said, “Lex…. That’s why you changed your mind about waiting for your string? Because Noah lied to you?” I sighed, “Yes. I mean I’d already had s*x with Noah. Why wait for potentially years to do it again? Plus, I wanted to know if that’s what s*x was like.” 

       Ted said, “Huh?” I said, “It was bad. The worst s*x I’ve had bad. I wanted to know if it was really that bad. Everyone talks about it like it was fun, so… I found it was just bad with Noah. A few others, but Noah was the worst.” Ted started to cackle, “YOU ARE KIDDING?! Mr. I’m god’s gift to women in bed, is bad at s*x?” I sighed, “With me he was. It was over so fast.” I could hear Matt chuckling. Ted said, “So… that’s why the Princess hates him. So… that means the rumors are true. Someone DID have to elicit a promise for her not to kill Noah.” I said, “Yes. I was passed out after drinking the whole fiasco away. Bjourn made her promise not to kill Noah UNLESS he caused a problem.” Ted was laughing, “I KNEW IT! I knew that was true! This all makes so much sense.” I sighed, “I’m not done.” Ted said, “Of course you aren’t.” I sighed, “Noah walked towards me at the ceremony on purpose. To hurt me when he turned to Sally. The people in between her and I are the ones who know the truth. He didn’t ever feel like I was pulling him. He knew it was Sally, he smirked at me before he turned to her. I didn’t know they’d seen it.” Ted gasped, “But… Sally….” I sighed, “She’s known all along. She told me recently. I never knew, but I guess Susanna came to see me because she was nervous. She heard Noah’s confession, and the start of things happening. Before I arrived that day, she’d told all the girls that it was official, he was mine.” Ted said, “Oh my god… poor… Sally and you. HOLY s**t! Sally isn’t trying to have a baby then… Is she?” I said, “Ted I can’t talk about that.” Ted said, “Don’t talk I will. That mother fucker! It HAS to be Noah, Lex. He was so controlling when you guys were together. This is him. He wants you back in the fold under his thumb. This business is different from you staying away and going on missions. He doesn’t want you to be happy. f**k HIM! He wants to have his person and you! HOW DARE NOAH! Matt and I had to FLEE from my apartment last night. I spent MONTHS getting that place together. Now… I’m in a stupid hotel. A nice hotel. But stupid.” 

        I bit my lip, “Which is why I’m your best friend.” Ted said, “Huh?” I laughed, “I’m going to text you an address. I had Haley mirror your apartment from pictures. It’s a house though, so there are things for you to tweak. It’s actually not too far from my house. You will be able to see it when you get there, and once you bring Matt past the fairy barrier; he will be able to see it too. It’s just like mine. So, anyone you bring in can come back and see it just fine. Just be careful who all you let in. I wanted you to have somewhere to be in case…. Well I didn’t think we were going to be hiding from our people, but you get the point.” Ted sniffled, “You had the princess conjure me a safe house like yours?” I said, “You’re my best friend, Ted. You know I’ll do whatever I have to when it comes to your safety.” Ted said, “You are amazing. I am so grateful Matt had us come here so I didn’t get abducted in the middle of the night.” Matt growled, “Wouldn't have happened.” Ted laughed continuing, “and it really is a great hotel. Apparently, it’s your sister from another mother’s husband’s place.” I laughed, “So it must be nice.” Ted said, “It is. It’s just not home.” I sent Ted a text, “Sent you the address. Get settled, and hopefully Matt can go with you to your event tomorrow.” Matt said, “I’ll talk to my Alpha. If I can't, someone will be there if this threat is still present.” I told Ted, “Let me know if Matt can’t go. I’ll figure something out.” Ted said, “I would be perfectly fine at an event. You two have the nerve to try to take my title of Worrier King. My crown is firmly planted on my head, and you can’t have it.” I laughed, “Get moving to your place.” Ted said, “Damn it really is close to your place. WE CAN HAVE SLEEPOVERS!” I laughed, “I do think several steps ahead for a reason Ted.” 

       I hung up. My phone rang seconds later. I smiled, “Hello Haley.” Haley said, “I might have kicked your brother's ass. By might of I mean I did, and you are free to get out of lockdown.” I laughed, “How did you manage that?” Haley said, “Manage Kicking his ass? Fairy hijinks. Very hard to hit someone who just keeps throwing you across the room with the wind. I also… might have… someone incapacitated the f*****g troll.” I snorted, “Haley…. What happened?” Haley said, “It’s not my fault. I would like to throw that out there into the damn universe.” I said, “Of course it’s not.” Haley said, “See… There I was going about my day when I got an emergency call from the hood. I popped to your brother right away, and he DEMANDED I tell him where you were. I was very confused because my emergency calls are usually to go in and find you undercover, make sure you are ok, or go kick some ass with you. Your brother explained the situation. I was about to tell him where I was going to f*****g shove my shoe…. When the troll walked up to us. He was f*****g rude. I might have... had lightning strike him.” I said, “I didn’t know you could do that.” Haley sighed, “I did not either. It’s new. I just imagined lightning striking him and BAM passed out troll. Then I brought the rain and had it out with your brother. I used one of the many favors he owes me to back off of you and Ted. Plus word came out while I was there that your mark came into town to speak with Alpha Kyle. It did not go well, and Alpha Kyle had to kill him. See, I just know that’s not true. Because I thought to myself… Lexi asked for weapons to be concealed behind the hotel.” I sighed, “I’d rather not discuss it. TeleTed handled the cover story, and we needed to throw them off us or we’d be on lockdown. There’s another leak, Haley. This one is coming at me.” 

       Haley sighed, “I f*****g knew it! I KNEW IT! First you have a s**t alias and now an old mark coming in town. f**k. I’m going to tell Eric without telling Eric your real identity when I can’t lie. GOD being a fairy is too damn hard. I WILL solve this puzzle thought Lex. I don’t want you or Ted getting hurt. Next time you have a body drop; I’ll help with the cleanup. Or make it look like they never made it into town. Harper’s boytoy lover LOVES it when I ask him to do things.” I laughed, “Gunner loves you like a sister, Haley.” Haley snorted, “Not like any brother I have.” I laughed, “Like a normal brother. You bicker, but you also enjoy teasing each other. He would do anything for you, and you for him.” Haley said, “You’re right. I would never let anything happen to him. Is that because of him or Harper though?” I smiled, “I think it’s both. You see him how you see your brother’s mates.” Haley said, “Hey now, who’s the therapist here?” I laughed, “I’m just glad you’re opening up to see these things.” Haley said, “Me too. You know I’d never let anyone hurt you, right?” I smiled, “I do.” Haley said, “Good. Because I’d kick anyone’s f*****g ass who tried. I’m moderately annoyed that my bolt of lightning didn’t kill the stupid f*****g troll. Bjourn couldn’t have even argued that I broke my promise. I didn’t know I could hit people with my lightning. f**k. I have to call Aiden. I need to read more about this, and he has the books. He will be ALL too amused about this. There are going to be jokes about how I call Eric Thor, and now I control lightning.” I laughed, “I’m glad Aiden’s coming around too. He is lucky. I’ve got a few Iron arrows that I had made and ready to use for six years.” Haley laughed, “We really are like sisters, aren’t we? I went from no sisters to basically ten. My brother’s mates, and you. Well Katie and I are friends right now, but technically she is my sister since she’s Logan’s mate.” I smiled, “I’m really happy for you Haley. I’m also happy I can tell Ted we are not on lockdown mode anymore.” Haley said, “Tell Ted I said hi.” I laughed, “Will do.” 

      We hung up and ordered Alpha Chase some dark chocolates with a note of thanks. I included an apology for not realizing it was their pack that helped us. I made the poor person on the phone re-do the note at least ten times before I was satisfied with the message. I had no idea why it was so important to me to get it completely perfect, but it really was. I hung up with them and turned my real phone back on. Heath had called me over one hundred times and sent texts. I rolled my eyes and called Ted. “Uhh Hello? Did you forget we are going dark? Hey!” He giggled, “I said, “I’ll say this quickly since I’m interrupting. Haley used one of her IOU’s for us. She says hi. We don’t have to hide. They are going to leave us alone, and your wolf works fast. Word already hit that Alpha Kyle killed Henrick.” Ted said, “How did you even do that wolfie? I’ve been with you the whole time.” I heard Matt say seductively, “I can talk to my Alpha through my mind link. I told him while you were on the phone with Lex.” I said, “You can do that with him too now Ted.” Ted shrieked, “I CAN?” I laughed, “I’m pretty sure Haley said she can do it with Eric.” Ted said, “ohhhhh… gotta test that out. Thanks for the heads up. Bye Lex.” We hung up and I stared at my phone for a long time. I decided I was tired of talking on the phone. 

Me: Heath meet me at our place.

Heath: When?

Me: Now

Heath: On my way

I grabbed some athletic running shorts with a blank tank top. I stepped outside and took off running. I stopped when I heard something behind me. I shrugged because I didn’t see anything. I kept running only stopping when I reached my parents' graves. “Hi Mom. Hi Dad.” I heard a voice behind me, “Hi Lex.” I turned, “Heath.” Heath came up and hugged me. “I know our people weren’t happy we didn’t bury mom and dad with us in the shroud, but this is what they wanted. Only the family knowing where they are.” I smiled, “A secluded beautiful place.” I smiled, Haley had conjured a meadow and waterfall for us a few years back. She was asleep for hours afterwards. Something told me now, she would be just fine. She really was growing into her powers. 

            “You can’t just keep trying to hide me Heath.” I told him. Heath ran a hand through his hair, “I… Lex you used your SOS. When I heard Henrick was in town, all I could think about was you. How he could hurt you.” I said, “You trained me. I am good at what I do.” Heath said, “Lex...I can’t lose you. I WON’T lose you. If that means sometimes, I lose my head, then I’ll lose my head; however, you are my baby sister. You have no idea what that SOS did to me. Nothing mattered but getting to you. I knew the Hackura would come for me. I didn’t care. Noah told me they could kill me, and I told him as long as you were safe; I’d let them.” I gasped, “Heath, no! That’s not fair! I can’t lose you either!” Heath said, “I have a lead on mom and dad’s murder.” I hissed, “Change the subject ALL you want, but I have lost people too Heath. You are just as important to me as I am to you. I need you. Do you understand?” Heath nodded, “I understand, Lex.” He ruffled my hair and I let him for a moment before slapping his hand away. I asked him, “What’s your lead?” Heath said, “I tracked down a demon who said he heard rumors of the contract out on them. He gave me a headhunter to follow up with. I’ll be out of town tomorrow. Think you can stay out of trouble?” I said, “ME? I was never IN trouble.” Heath laughed, “So you didn’t break a man’s hand last night?” I said, “Hey… he grabbed me. How did you know that?” Heath smiled, “I have eyes all over the place. We had an undercover in the club on a date. She saw you.” I said, “Susanna. I KNEW that was her! I thought I was crazy because I only saw her for a split second.” Heath laughed, “Yes, Susanna.”
