ARC ONE - THE LUNA THEY THREW AWAY. Chapter 1: “The Luna’s Betrayal”
For five years, Ariana Vale had believed she knew what it meant to be loved. She had believed that standing beside Alpha Adrian Blackthorn made her part of something unbreakable. She had been his Luna. His wife. The woman everyone in Blackthorn Pack looked up to. And tonight, in front of the entire pack, Ariana was about to discover that none of it meant what she thought it did. The grand hall of Blackthorn Castle glittered beneath hundreds of golden lights. Pack members filled the enormous room, dressed in their finest clothes for the celebration. Music played softly in the background. Laughter filled the air. Ariana stood beside Adrian at the head of the hall, wearing the silver dress he had once told her made her look like a queen. She smiled as members of the pack approached them. “Luna Ariana, congratulations.” “You’ve done so much for the pack.” “We’re lucky to have you.” Ariana returned every greeting warmly. For years, she had worked hard to earn their trust. When families needed help, she was there. When pack members argued, she helped settle their disputes. When Adrian was away handling Alpha duties, Ariana had carried the responsibilities of the pack without complaint. She had never regretted it. Because she believed she was doing it for their family. For Adrian. For their future. She glanced at him. “Are you all right?” she whispered. Adrian didn’t look at her. “I’m fine.” His voice was unusually cold. Ariana’s smile faded slightly. For the past few weeks, she had noticed the change. Adrian barely spoke to her anymore. He stopped seeking her advice. He stopped visiting their room early in the morning. Even when they stood together before the pack, she could feel a distance between them. She had asked him about it several times. Every time, he dismissed her concerns. She had tried to believe him. Tonight, however, something felt different. Adrian suddenly stepped forward. The music stopped. Conversation slowly died throughout the hall. Everyone turned toward their Alpha. Ariana looked at him, confused. Adrian raised his glass. “I have an announcement to make.” Ariana smiled. Perhaps he was going to surprise her. Maybe this was why he had seemed so distant. Maybe he had planned something special for their anniversary. Her heart lifted with hope. Adrian looked across the room. Then his eyes landed on a woman standing near the entrance. Ariana followed his gaze. The woman was breathtaking. She wore an elegant dark-red gown, and a delicate crown rested against her long hair. Whispers immediately spread through the hall. “Princess Elara…” Ariana’s smile disappeared. Princess? She had heard the name before. Elara was the daughter of one of the most powerful royal families in the supernatural territories. But why was she here? Adrian walked toward her. Ariana remained frozen. When Adrian reached Elara, he held out his hand. The princess accepted it. The hall became completely silent. Ariana’s heart began pounding. “Everyone,” Adrian announced, “I want you to welcome Princess Elara.” Polite applause began. Ariana couldn’t move. Adrian continued. “Tonight marks the beginning of a new chapter for Blackthorn Pack.” Ariana stared at him. Something inside her was screaming that she needed to leave. But she couldn’t. Not yet. Adrian turned toward her. Their eyes met. There was no warmth in his expression. No regret. No hesitation. Then he said the words that shattered everything Ariana had believed for five years. “Ariana Vale will no longer be my Luna.” The hall erupted into whispers. Ariana’s breath caught. For several seconds, she wondered if she had misunderstood him. “What?” Her voice was barely audible. Adrian didn’t answer immediately. Instead, he looked toward Elara. “I never truly wanted Ariana.” Ariana felt as though the entire room had disappeared. Five years. Five years of memories. Five years of standing beside him. Five years of believing his promises. And he was telling everyone that he had never wanted her? Ariana shook her head. “Adrian…” He looked at her without emotion. “I made a mistake.” A few pack members lowered their heads. Others simply watched. Ariana searched the crowd for someone—anyone—who would defend her. No one spoke. Then Elara stepped forward. She placed a gentle hand on Adrian’s arm. “I never wanted to cause pain,” she said softly. Ariana stared at her. Something about the words felt rehearsed. As though this moment had been planned long before tonight. Adrian looked at Elara. His expression softened. That small gesture hurt more than his announcement. Ariana had spent years trying to earn that look. And Elara had received it effortlessly. “Elara is the woman destined to stand beside me,” Adrian announced. Ariana’s hands trembled. “After everything I’ve done for you?” Adrian’s expression remained cold. “You did what you believed was your duty.” “Your duty?” Ariana let out a broken laugh. “I was your wife.” “You were my Luna.” The distinction struck her painfully. Was that all she had been to him? A title? A position? Something convenient? Adrian raised his voice so everyone could hear. “The pack will recognize Princess Elara as the future Luna of Blackthorn.” Applause slowly began. Ariana stared at the people clapping. Some had once called her their queen. Some had once thanked her for protecting them. Now they were celebrating the woman replacing her. Her eyes returned to Adrian. “Was any of it real?” For the first time, Adrian hesitated. Ariana waited. She wanted him to deny it. She wanted him to say that he was angry, confused, or being forced into this. Anything. But Adrian simply looked away. That was her answer. Ariana felt something inside her break. Not loudly. Not dramatically. Just quietly. Like a door closing forever. She straightened her shoulders. If Adrian wanted to destroy everything they had built, she would not give him the satisfaction of watching her beg. She slowly removed the silver Luna necklace from around her neck. The symbol of her position. The symbol she had worn proudly for five years. She held it in her palm. Then she looked at Adrian one final time. “You may take my title,” she said quietly. Her voice trembled, but she refused to cry. “You may take my home.” The hall became silent again. “But you cannot rewrite the woman I became while I stood beside you.” Adrian said nothing. Ariana turned away. She took one step. Then another. Behind her, the celebration continued. The music started again. People gathered around Adrian and Elara. And Ariana walked away from the life she had spent five years building. She didn’t know it yet, but this was only the beginning. Because the woman they were throwing away tonight would not remain broken forever. Somewhere deep within her blood, something ancient had begun to awaken. And one day, everyone who had watched Ariana fall would witness her rise.
