The Setup
Drip…drip Aria was rudely awakened by subtle drops of water coming from the bathroom. Still mumbling unclear words as she prepared to go back to sleep, when she noticed the unfamiliar room. She abruptly sat up on the bed when she noticed the unfamiliar room and scenes of last night hitting her like a wave. She moved slowly towards the door to peek, not expecting to see a crowd of reporters outside the room. Aria widened her eyes in horror as she ran a shaky hand through her hair, her eyes scanning the room for an escape route. She was still lost in thought, but snapped back into reality when the noise grew harsher and louder with each passing minute. She moved slowly towards the door to peek, not expecting to see a crowd of reporters outside the room. She felt her hands trembling at the sight of swarming paparazzi and blinding lights crowding the entire hallway. Standing motionless, her ears locked on the voice she recognized… Xi Huan … Xi Huan's voice came from behind the crowd “My older sister can’t be here — she’s not the kind of person to have a one-night stand.” She smiled slightly, her gaze landing on the reporter she had paid earlier who continued banging at the door. Meanwhile, the reporters positioned their cameras in hope to catch Aria’s embarrassing moment. There was already an eye-catching headline in the mind of the reporter Xi Huan had bribed. “The eldest daughter of the Xu Group had a one-night stand after being stood up by her fiancé.” He smiled thinking of all the money it would bring in. He kept on provoking the others in order to pressure Aria into opening the door. After receiving signals from Xi Huan, the reporter quickly countered her words, insisting that this wasn’t the first scandalous story they’d received about Aria. Her heart dropped to her stomach when she realized Xi Huan had led them here to humiliate her. She couldn’t help but mutter incoherent words while trying to figure out what to do. The bathroom door was suddenly pushed open. Aria’s jaw dropped at the sight of the man before her. She stole a quick glance, trying to confirm he was really him. Never in her wildest dreams would she have imagined spending the night with Damien — the Damien Lee. “Oh no… what if the rumors of him killing girls who threw themselves at him were true?” She felt her heart drop all the way to her stomach. Damien came out half-naked. Her eyes were drawn to his broad shoulders, lean legs and smooth white skin. However, this view lasted only a moment as he put on his clothes. He acted as if she wasn’t even present in the room. He picked up his phone, muttering something about having his secretary deal with whatever was causing the noise. Damien’s gaze swept over her, lingering on the blood on the bed before returning to her face. His stare felt sharp—too assessing. A strong sense of unease spread through her as he continued looking at her. A strong sense of unease spread through her as Damien’s gaze continuously lingered on her. Finally, Damien spoke, “How did you get here?” Aria could only swallow hard, her fingers tightly twisted, finding it hard to respond “I…. I didn’t mean to—“ He walked to her slowly scrutinizing her carefully, eyes narrowing, he pressed her against the wall tightly. “I ask again, who sent you here?” Her heart pounded violently, “Oh no…he's going to kill me.” She raised her voice slightly. “I already told you, it was a setup.” Her nostrils flared as she said it. “It's not like I’m interested in you,” she mumbled. “What did you say?” His voice was chillingly cold, almost deathly. From her earlier reaction, he already knew she recognized who he was. Nobody had ever dared to speak to him that way. He hadn’t expected this frail-looking girl to flare with such temper and charisma. Why wasn’t she scared of him? She was something else entirely — almond-shaped eyes, naturally pink lips, and a narrow waist that would make any man look twice. Damien drew in a sharp breath, trying to recollect himself. He realized he had been staring at this strange woman for too long. “Get dressed,” he said, his eyes gleaming with obvious displeasure. Outside the room, Damien’s private secretary, Alex, walked out of the elevator and frowned in confusion, unable to grasp the situation. “What is a group of reporters doing here?” he thought as he walked towards the door. “What is happening here?” he shouted. Their hearts nearly stopped as they recognized Damien’s assistant. Outside the room, Damien’s private secretary, Alex, walked out of the elevator and frowned in confusion, unable to grasp the situation. “What are a bunch of reporters doing here?” he mumbled as he walked towards the door. “What is happening here?” he shouted, scaring the reporters. Their hearts nearly stopped when they recognized Damien’s assistant. They stumbled backward immediately, scrambling out of the hallway, terrified that Damien might end their careers — or worse, even get them killed. Cursing, the reporters continued blaming Xi Huan for leading them here without verifying her facts, almost landing them in serious trouble. Aria continued biting her lips while thinking of how she would face the crowd when she stepped out, and noticed the place had suddenly become quiet. She quickly peeped through the door hole and saw that the reporters were all gone. Her eyes darted around the room before briefly meeting his. Without a word, she lifted her dress up from the sofa and went to get dressed, avoiding eye contact with him completely. She took a deep breath with beads of sweat slowly dripping down her face after she was done. “I’m finished.” Damien glanced over at her and stood up, his expression unreadable as they both stepped out of the room. Damien’s assistant, Alex, was sweating profusely as he couldn’t bring himself to look in Damien’s direction. He kept on tapping his leg nervously on the floor, because he knew Damien’s temper. “Boss!” Alex quickly called out as he spotted Damien walking out of the room. He was stunned because Damien was never around women making the rumour about him being gay believable.
