Chapter fifty-two AN APOLOGY Jesse sat opposite Gabriella inside the Spotswood restaurant for Sunday lunch, with the permeating smells of cinnamon, spices, and coffee beans. Dribs and drabs of customers walked inside the place, which featured a spacious and cosy ambience with round tables and steel-back chairs. Vases of artificial flowers rested in the middle of each table, and the crowd was buzzing with noise, muffled voices, and laughter. He rested back against the chair and dug into a slice of fish.
