CHAPTER 31
A Fry Guard threw Mint and Graeme into a lab.
“Be quiet and stay here,” the guard said. He left the room and locked the door behind him.
The lab smelled sweet. It was lined with books along the walls, and a desk in the middle held a family photo of Geoffrey, Azucara, Mint, and Graeme.
In the corner of the room they saw a large chamber with a dead endive floating inside.
Mint looked around and said, “I’ve always hated this place.”
Graeme straddled a chair at the desk and sighed.
“At least we found Mom.”
The door opened and Azucara hurried into the room. She paused, seeing the children, and then got on her knees and held out her arms.
“I have missed you both so much!” she said.
When Mint and Graeme didn’t move, she rushed forward and pulled them against her.
