Blurb

I had been betrothed to Tristan Brooks, the head of the Dragonkin, since childhood. But one day, someone sent me a video of him kissing another girl at a bar.

I rushed over, only to hear him complaining to his friends, "I'm so sick of her. Her face just turns me off!"

Without a word, I turned around and broke off our engagement. He thought I was just throwing a tantrum, until I posted my marriage covenant with Julian Hayes of the Kitsune. Tristan knelt outside my door in the pouring rain, begging me to look at him just one more time. But Julian's nine tails wrapped tightly around me. "Clara, ignore him. Let's continue."

Chapter 1
Under the dim, ambient lights, the two of them were passionately making out, completely oblivious to everyone else. The surrounding Beastkin were cheering loudly. But at a single glance, I recognized the man kissing her—it was Tristan Brooks, the man I'd loved and been engaged to for five years. An anonymous sender had messaged me the video. At first, I was convinced Tristan would never do such a thing. Yet, I still ended up going to that private booth. "It's better not to get engaged too early. Honestly, looking at Clara White's face these days only kills the mood." The moment I pushed the door open, Tristan's familiar voice drifted out. I started trembling all over, frozen in disbelief as tears welled up and spilled over. "Clara..." Someone recognized me, and the rowdy cheers instantly vanished, plunging the room into dead silence. "Clara? What are you doing here?" Tristan quickly pushed the human girl out of his lap. The girl shrank back, cowering behind him. Humans were rare, and those who survived were kept as pets by the Beastkin. And Chloe Miller was Tristan's kept human. He gently wiped away the tears on my face. "Why are you crying?" There wasn't a shred of guilt on Tristan's face. I threw my phone right at his face. "How could you kiss someone else? Do you still remember I'm your fiancée?" Tristan's expression didn't change. "It was just a kiss. Come on, Clara, be good. We've been together for so many years, and we've only ever had each other. I just got a bit bored and wanted to try something new, but you're still the one I love most." I stared at Tristan in disbelief, as if looking at a total stranger. The Rabbitfolk and the Dragonkin had arranged our marriage long ago. Ever since I was a child, I knew Tristan would be my future husband. We were childhood sweethearts and had been together for five years. I had always looked forward to our wedding day. I still remembered how his cheeks flushed when he confessed to me, and the solemn vow he made when we got engaged—"I'll love you forever, Clara." And now, he could kiss another girl without batting an eye and tell me he was bored of me. What did our five years of love even mean to him? I slapped him hard across the face. "You disgust me, Tristan. Our engagement is off." Tristan's eyes darkened. He lightly stroked his swollen cheek. "Stop making a fuss, Clara. I don't love her at all. It was just a temporary distraction." His friends chimed in to persuade me, "Clara, she's just a human. Everyone knows Tristan only has eyes for you." "Yeah, Clara, don't take it too far. You guys are about to get married." What a wonderful bunch of friends he had. I let out a cold laugh. Pulling out the soul bond from our engagement, I snapped it in two. "I'm not making a fuss. As of this moment, our engagement is officially null and void!" Tristan let out a cold chuckle and grabbed my drooping rabbit ears. "You're being very disobedient, Clara. Do you really think the Rabbitfolk will let you call off this marriage?" He patted his lap. "Sit back down here, and I'll let this slide. Otherwise, if we really break this off, think about how the Rabbitfolk will treat you. I'd hate to see you suffer." I stared at his twisted expression, my heart aching as if pierced by a blade. "That is none of your concern, Mr. Brooks," I said, emphasizing every single word before turning on my heel and walking out. Tristan narrowed his eyes, his voice turning icy. "It won't be long before you come crawling back to me in tears, Clara."
