Chapter 14

346 Words
Lana’s POV The majority of the guest have arrived. I focus on keeping my head down and walking through the crowd without trying to be seen. I can hear people point at me and talk about my scars. I feel exposed and self-conscious. I am praying that the party goes by quickly. The music begins to change as the alpha goes to the stage area at the back of the packhouse. The crowd quiets down as he taps on the microphone. “Thank you for everyone that could attend the celebration of my daughter’s birthday. This is a special day for us all. My heir has met her wolf and soon she will take over the pack. It is my great pleasure to welcome the host of the party and your next alpha, my daughter Abigail.” Everyone begins to cheer and clap for Abigail as she comes out the doors of the packhouse. She decided to wear a white bikini with pink flowers around her head. She takes in all her guests and begins to wave a greet people. I continue to walk around the party. I have seen some of the pack members from the visiting pack, but I haven’t seen Alpha Ryan. That is until I hear Abigail’s annoying squeal. I try to block out Abigail’s squeal, but Echo keeps bugging me. I can feel her jumping around in my head. I have no idea why she is making such a big deal about the alpha entering the party. I try to ignore her the best I can and serve more appetizers when I catch a strong smell of mahogany wood. The scent becomes stronger as I feel the need to follow it. Echo suddenly stills in my head, and I have the urge to look up. I look up and I can see Abigail staring at Alpha Ryan through the crowd. Except he’s not staring at her, he is staring at me. We make eye contact and Echo says one word that takes all the breath out of my lungs, Mate.
