Chapter 2

"Luna!" I looked around trying to see where the voice was coming from but I was surrounded by darkness. "Luna! Over here!" I quickly turned behind me to only find darkness. "I must be dreaming," I said panicked. I start to pinch my arm as hard as I can. "Come on Luna, wake up." Suddenly, in the distance, a bright light shaped like a doorway appeared a few feet in front of me. I took little steps towards the door only to realize how far the door was. For some reason, I get the urge to run to the door. I started to run but the door looked like it was getting further away. "Luna!" I stopped in my tracks to listen again. "Luna..." "Mom?" I said while looking around in the darkness. I heard footsteps get closer and closer, "Luna!" I jerked awake with sweat dripping down my face. "Get up it's time for school." My Mom says while opening my window curtains. "Ugh! Mom, can I please stay home from school today?" "No, you need your education." She says picking up things off my floor. "I'm a senior, I don't do anything anyways." I pull the covers over my head. "Why do you have to be difficult Luna?" She pulls the covers off my bed causing the blanket to fall to the floor. "We're leaving in thirty minutes." She walks out the door without closing my door. "Ugh!" I got up to close my door and then ran to the bathroom to get ready. I put my hair in a curly ponytail and then quickly put my makeup on. I walked to my closet and chose to wear skinny jeans with a white t-shirt, and my white sneakers. *Ring* *Ring* I walked over to my desk and picked up my phone to see who was calling. Emma Stoll comes up on the screen so I answer, "Hello?" "Are you coming to school today?" "Yes, my Mom is making me go," I said unamused. "Good, I have some good news to tell you." I can hear her squeal with excitement. "Okay, I'll see you there." I hung up the phone and then walked out of the room into the living room. "Mom! I'm ready." She comes rushing out of her room with her purse on her shoulder. "You're not going to eat breakfast?" "No, Mom I'm not hungry." She doesn't say anything as she walks out the door. I followed behind her and into the car. She starts the car and begins to drive, "When's your next appointment?" "Next Tuesday I think." I looked down at my phone and began texting Emma. "I'm glad." I turned my head to look at my Mom, "What do you mean you're glad?" "I'm glad because once your anxiety gets better, you can get out more instead of being in the house all day." I sat there thinking about how I could be a normal teenager. "You're right Mom." She smiles taking in that she was right. In the distance, I see my school appear. She pulls up in the roundabout in front of my school. I unbuckled my seatbelt and then jumped out of the car. "Bye Luna, have a great day." I smile, "Thanks, Mom." I shut the car door and then watched her drive off. "Hey!" "Ahhh!" I jumped and then turned around to see Emma laughing. "Oh my gosh! You almost gave me a heart attack!" Emma smiles and then kisses me on the cheek. "Ew... I told you I'm straight.." "You'll give in one day," Emma says with a wink. The bell rings forcing us to walk to class before we're late. "So, you said you got some exciting news to tell me." You can see the excitement forming in her eyes. "I'm pregnant!" "What?! Are you serious right now? Who's the Baby Daddy?" She looks around before saying anything. "Ryan Trim." A half smile starts to form across my face, "How did you manage to get the hottest guy at our school to get you pregnant?" "I have my ways, I'll tell you more about it at lunch." As she walked away I walked into my English class. I walked straight to my assigned seat which was in the front of the class. All the students started piling in one by one. "Okay, class as you begin to take your seat, I want to answer the warm-up question on the board. I pulled out my English journal and then looked at the board that read: "How many lines does it make a paragraph?" I wrote: "five to eight lines" in my journal. "Okay, who would like to share their answer with the class." The teacher says while making eye contact with everyone. Nervousness started to set in as I looked down at my journal. "Okay, I'm just going to pick someone." The teacher looks around the room trying to decide who to pick. "Audrey, can you tell us the answer." My body starts to relax as my anxiety settles. "Five to eight," says Audrey. "That's correct." She then continues the lesson. As the day flew by it was already time for lunch. I met up with Emma who was already in line, so I joined her. "You must be really hungry." "Well, I am eating for two," She giggles as we move up in line. "What do you like to eat?" The cafeteria lady says to Emma. Emma looks down at the choices, "Uh...I'll have the pepperoni pizza, fries, and chocolate milk." The cafeteria lady looks at me, "And what about you?" Everything freezes in my body, "Uh..." My voice shakes. "She'll have the same thing," Emma says with a smile. The cafeteria lady puts the food on our tray. We found an empty table and we sat down. "Okay, tell me more about the pregnancy. Does he know?" She sighs, "No, I'm too scared to tell him." "When did you find out?" I said while taking a bite of my pizza. "Yesterday," She bites her bottom lip. She looks over my shoulder and her eyes go wide. "What?" I look behind me to see Ryan Trim and his friends in line. "Go tell him," I said trying not to smile. "I can't... he's with his friends." Emma stares at him while she eats. She continued watching as Ryan took his lunch and then sat at the table next to us with his friends. "Finish your food and then follow me into the bathroom," Emma whispers. I nod in agreement as I stuff my mouth with food. I followed Emma as we threw our food away and then headed to the restroom. "I'm freaking out Luna!" Emma starts to pace back and forward, "I don't know if I can tell him." I rubbed Emma's back to get her to calm down. "What are you worried about Emma? He might be excited to have a baby." Emma looks at herself in the mirror. "And what if he doesn't want a baby? I'll be stuck raising this kid by myself." I looked at Emma through the mirror and I could see how worried she looked. "Let's not think negatively, how about you go to his house and tell him privately." "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea." Emma starts to relax a little. The bell rings forcing us to end the conversation. "I'll see you after school, I might come over," Emma says walking out of the restroom. "Okay." I waved goodbye as she walked away. I pulled out my phone to text my Mom to pick me up after school. "Luna." I looked up to see Principal Jones staring at me. "Can you come to my office, please?" "Sure." I follow him back to his office. "Have a seat." I sat down in the chair across from him not making eye contact. "Am I in trouble?" "No, you're a good student, but I do have an issue with you skipping out on the mandatory drug test last week. So we did contact your Mom this morning about this issue. Is there a reason why you refused to take the test?" I swallowed hard, "No, there's no reason." He starts to stare into my soul, "If you can't give us a valid reason we're going have to suspend you." I looked down at my hands without a word. "Okay, you'll be suspended for a whole week starting today, I'll call your Mom to pick you up."
