Prologue
The desert was vast and unsettlingly quiet for what took place. Blood painted the sands and heat rushed in short bursted waves of wind. She could feel the sand scratch across her face as the wind picked up. Her lips lay puckered in sand. Her skin red and burned from the daunting noon sun that rose over head. Yet there she laid with a sense of defeat and loss.
Her body shook when she rose. The pain throbbing with a pulsing heart beat as a scream passed her lips. What had happened? Hadn’t they won? Then why was she all alone? Why was she in so much pain that it left her wanting to bite on her very tongue to stop the pain? Her breath was shaky and short. Shock had hold of every since ounce of her being and in that very moment she felt worse then broken. Shattered couldn’t even describe how she felt. Hollow maybe? Empty of all feeling? Even that very word felt wrong.
Was what she thought was her voice came out in in short gasping whimpers. She sat first from where her body lay. Everything hurt. It felt like her very soul seemed to be on fire and there was nothing for miles around that could even put it out. She could feel her blood sticky hands dig into the heated sand. She could feel it burn the sole of flesh that lay there already numb from pain. An agonizing scream passed her lips. Her hands raised full of hot sand before slamming down into it. Ever scream there after made her throat go raw and she coughed blood up. The world around her fading to black once again.
