Chapter 1
The moon was full the night Lyra became a joke.
The mating ceremony grounds were packed with wolves from three packs. Music echoed through the forest, torches burning gold against the dark sky.
Tonight was supposed to be her future.
Tonight was supposed to be her bond.
Instead, it became her humiliation.
Lyra stood at the center of the circle, heart pounding. Across from her stood Alpha Kael — tall, powerful, every inch the feared ruler of the Northern Packs.
His eyes were cold.
Too cold.
The Elder’s voice echoed.
“Alpha Kael, do you accept Lyra Stone as your fated mate?”
Silence.
The crowd waited.
Lyra held her breath.
Kael’s jaw tightened. For a brief second — just one — something flickered in his eyes.
Then he spoke.
“I reject her.”
Gasps erupted.
Lyra’s world shattered instantly.
The bond energy between them snapped violently, sending pain through her body. She staggered, barely staying on her feet.
Whispers spread like poison.
“An omega rejected by the Alpha King…”
“How embarrassing…”
Her hands trembled.
Kael stepped forward — close enough that only she could hear him.
His voice was low. Controlled.
“And this rejection is final.”
Final.
The word felt like a death sentence.
Tears burned in her eyes, but she refused to let them fall.
If he thought she would break…
He was wrong.
As the ceremony ended and wolves dispersed, Lyra turned to leave — heart bleeding, pride wounded.
But before she could step beyond the boundary line—
A sharp pain exploded in her chest.
The moonlight flickered.
Her vision blurred.
Across the field, Kael suddenly froze.
His body stiffened.
The curse mark on his neck began to glow dark red.
And for the first time that night…
Fear entered the Alpha King’s eyes.
The curse mark on Kael’s neck burned brighter.
Dark energy pulsed beneath his skin — violent, unstable.
The crowd didn’t notice.
But Lyra did.
She felt it.
The moment the bond snapped earlier, something strange happened inside her chest — not just pain… but awakening.
The rejection should have weakened her.
Instead, it felt like a key turning.
Kael’s eyes locked onto hers across the field.
For the first time in years…
He looked shaken.
“Leave,” he ordered sharply to the guards nearby. “Clear the grounds.”
The wolves began to scatter, still whispering about the rejected omega.
Lyra stood frozen, trying to steady her breathing.
Kael approached her again, but this time his steps were slower. Controlled. As if every movement cost him strength.
“You shouldn’t have come to this ceremony,” he said quietly.
Her throat tightened. “It was my ceremony.”
His jaw flexed.
A flash of pain crossed his face — quick, but real.
“Not anymore.”
Those words cut deeper than the rejection.
Lyra forced herself to stand straight. “If you wanted to reject me, you could have done it privately.”
Silence.
The wind moved between them.
Kael’s voice dropped lower.
“You don’t understand what you are.”
Her heart skipped.
“What I am?” she asked.
His gaze darkened.
Dangerous.
“You are safer away from me.”
Before she could respond, a distant howl echoed from the forest.
Not a normal howl.
A rogue howl.
Kael’s body went rigid instantly.
His curse mark flared again — brighter this time.
Pain shot through him. His fingers curled slightly, fighting something invisible.
Lyra noticed.
The mighty Alpha King… was struggling.
Suddenly, multiple shadows moved between the trees.
Rogues.
They had breached the territory line.
Gasps sounded from the remaining guards.
Kael didn’t hesitate.
“Protect the pack,” he commanded.
The air shifted instantly — power radiating from him.
But as he stepped forward to confront the attackers, another wave of pain struck him.
He staggered.
Just slightly.
Lyra saw it.
Without thinking, she grabbed his arm to steady him.
The moment her skin touched his…
A shockwave exploded outward.
Golden light burst around them.
The curse mark on his neck clashed with a faint glow appearing on her wrist.
Both froze.
The pain stopped.
The rogues paused mid-attack, sensing the sudden energy shift.
Kael stared at her wrist.
Slowly.
Like he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
“No…” he whispered.
Lyra’s breathing became uneven.
“What is happening?” she asked.
The golden glow faded, but the connection remained — faint… yet undeniable.
For a split second, the broken bond from earlier tried to re-form.
Not as mates.
But something stronger.
The curse mark flickered violently.
Kael immediately stepped back, breaking contact.
The shockwave disappeared.
The rogues began advancing again.
Kael’s expression hardened — returning to the cold ruler everyone feared.
“Stay behind me,” he ordered.
Before she could argue, he transformed.
His shift was powerful — larger, darker, commanding.
The ground trembled as his wolf form stood between her and the attackers.
The battle began.
Claws. Blood. Growls.
Kael fought like a storm — unstoppable, ruthless.
But Lyra didn’t run.
Something inside her refused.
Instead, she focused.
And when one rogue leapt toward her —
She didn’t scream.
She didn’t freeze.
Instinct moved her body.
Her hand shot forward.
A pulse of energy burst from her palm — slamming the rogue backward violently.
The entire battlefield froze.
Even Kael stopped fighting.
Slowly, he turned.
From his wolf form, his golden eyes locked onto her.
This time…
There was no doubt in his gaze.
She wasn’t weak.
She wasn’t ordinary.
And the curse mark on his neck was glowing brighter than ever — reacting to her power.
The rogues retreated suddenly, sensing danger.
Within seconds, the battlefield was silent again.
Kael shifted back into human form, breathing heavily.
His eyes never left Lyra.
“What are you?” he asked quietly.
Not as an order.
As a question.
Lyra stared at her own trembling hands.
She didn’t know.
But one thing was certain.
The rejection had not ended their connection.
It had triggered something.
Something ancient.
Something the curse feared.
A distant rumble echoed from the forest — deeper than the rogues.
Kael’s expression changed instantly.
That sound wasn’t an attack.
It was a warning.
And for the first time since becoming Alpha King…
He looked genuinely afraid.
His gaze returned to Lyra.
Low.
Intense.
“You shouldn’t have touched me,” he said.
Her heart pounded.
“Why?”
The curse mark flared one final time — violently — before dimming.
Kael stepped closer again.
This time, he didn’t look cold.
He looked conflicted.
“Because now…” he said slowly, “…the curse has chosen you too.”
The wind howled around them.
And somewhere deep within the forest…
Something ancient awakened.
Chapter 1 – Ending (Cliffhanger)
The battlefield fell silent.
The rogues had retreated.
Lyra stood there, breathing heavily, her hands still faintly glowing from the strange power she didn’t understand.
Across from her, Kael stared at her like she was no longer just a rejected mate — but something far more dangerous.
His curse mark burned on his neck.
But this time, it wasn’t burning from pain.
It was reacting to her.
Slowly, Kael stepped closer.
“The curse…” he murmured under his breath.
Before he could finish his sentence, the air around them began to tremble.
The broken bond between them pulsed suddenly — brighter than before.
Lyra gasped as a wave of energy exploded between their chests.
A glowing thread of light reappeared, stretching from her heart to his.
Kael’s eyes widened in shock.
“This shouldn’t be possible…”
The thread tightened.
The curse mark flared violently.
And in the distance, the moon shifted — darkening ominously in the sky.
Lyra looked up slowly.
“What is happening to us?” she whispered.
Kael didn’t answer.
Because for the first time in his life…
The Alpha King looked truly afraid.
