Chapter 8 The Bet

1234 Words
"s**t! You scared me to death!" Anthony was frightened by the sudden comment, and immediately spun around. When he saw Robert, he was taken aback, “Robert, why are you here?”   He was still scared of Robert and without his friends around. The young punks were no use to him, and therefore he posed no threat to Robert.   "Can’t I be here?" Robert pursed his mouth and pointed his sword at the four gangsters who were kneeling on the ground. He smiled and said, "All right, I am going into the haunted school building to take a look around. Would you like to come with me? If you do, you have to say I am amazing."   Robert's reputation had quickly spread over the schools in New York, so the boys knew he would be their savior. They heard he was an exorcist with Divine-level, could generate a fireball out of thin air and throw money around with no worries. Even the ghosts in the abandoned building would be frightened.      "Fine, come with me!" Robert turned to Anthony, then snarled, "When they bring back human bones, they don't have to pay you back, correct?"   “That is what I said!” Anthony mumbled, “I want to see if you all come back alive. If you die inside, don’t blame me…”   Robert patted his Laser Sword and had an idea, "Oh? Anthony, do you want to make a bet?"   "What kind of bet?" Anthony asked cautiously.   "If we die inside, you win; if we come out alive, we win," Robert said.   "How is that a bet?" Anthony continued, thinking that Robert must be short on money.   "If you lose, swear never to harass Abby again! And..." Robert gave a sly smile, "you also admit that you lost. Of course, if we lose, we are dead, so it doesn't really matter."   Anthony thought for a moment if Robert was going inside, he must have prepared for it. However, numerous people died in the same building; there had to be evil in there; a plain exorcist with young boys was not a professional ghost hunting team.     "I will promise, but you must bring all four of the boys out alive. If one of them dies, you lose!"   "No problem," Robert did not hesitate at all. He looked down at his watch. It was about time, so he took Anthony’s four punks into the building with him.   "Good boy, wait for me to come back!" At the entrance, Robert laughed and sneered at Anthony.   Anthony was standing outside, trembling with anger. Damn it! He was taken advantage of Robert again. He whispered, “Robert, you better die inside!”   As a final thought before shutting the door, Anthony touched the Buddha necklace around his neck. He heard that it had ghosts sealed inside. If no one opened it, it would ward off bad luck, but it was a different situation once unlocked. He quickly pulled it from his neck and threw it into the building.   "Let’s see how much you can get away with!” Anthony burst into laughter.   The building was dark, and no one noticed the faint glimmer of purple light coming from the Buddha necklace that broke when it landed in the corner.   A chime went off in Robert's head, then he heard:   "It is detected that the host has entered the haunted school building!"   "The map of the haunted school building has been opened!"   Suddenly, the blueprints of the internal structure appeared in front of Robert. There were five floors in the building, and the number, grade, and power of ghosts would increase as he ascended each floor. When he reached the top floor, he would encounter BOSS, and the hidden BOSS would appear randomly afterward. It was precisely the same as the game!   Robert put away the map, and as soon as he turned on the flashlight, he saw a group of little ghosts with white faces and black robes.   The ghosts walked toward them and muttered, "Hey, hey, there are five young people. We have something to eat!"   Anthony's four thugs hid behind Robert when they saw the ghosts. Typically, the ghosts would be invisible to the naked eye, only able to be seen with ghost eyes. However, inside the building, they showed their true selves and seemed to have no fear. Robert was shocked at first but quickly laughed after seeing them.   Pulling out his Ghostbuster Kit in one hand and throwing a Fiery Rune to the ground with the other, Robert waited. A huge fireball exploded within seconds, hitting the ghosts directly; they didn't even have time to yell or scream.   Immediately Robert heard the prompts:   "Congratulations to the host for conquering 20 ghosts and getting 20 points!"   "Congratulations to the host for conquering 18 ghosts and getting 18 points!"   The four young kids were amazed by what they saw; from the fire, they saw countless black shadows flowing into Robert's kit.   "s**t! He is so awesome!" They couldn’t help but shout.   Robert pulled out a few Fiery Runes and held them in his hand, saying to the boys, "The ghosts on the first floor have been defeated; just follow me to the next floor.”   Throughout the floors, the young boys followed Robert as he killed the ghosts and demons. When he encountered them, some were destroyed by fireballs, and Robert worried he might lose a lot of points. The system read his mind and said,   "Congratulations to the host for destroying 20 ghosts and getting 10 points!"   "Congratulations to the host..."   Robert swore if the system were a person, he would have slapped it. He could score points when eliminating ghosts, but it was half of the value.   By the time the five of them reached the fifth floor, the ghosts were crowding around them. Looking around, Robert couldn't even count how many ghosts were nearby, and there was no way for him to take them on with only one hand. He put the kits into his Space Backpack and held his Fiery Runes in both hands.   Countless fireballs blasted out, and numerous ghosts turned into smoke, leaving corpses lying near the destroyed walls. The building began to tremble under their feet, but the floors seemed to be stable enough to hold them.   The young gangsters were terrified as they watched Robert; they weren't sure if he was human or not. However, they knew if the situation continued for too long, the building would collapse.   "Congratulations to the host for killing 100 ghosts and getting 50 points!"   "Congratulations to the host for killing 180 ghosts and getting 90 points!"   "Congratulations to the host..."   Robert was stunned by a series of prompts as he continued to kill the ghosts. Soon, there was only a small group left, and they seemed too scared to move. Robert was the first visitor who had disturbed their area, and now they didn't know how to react.   Taking out another Fiery Rune, Robert grinned, and suddenly another fireball rushed out of his hand like an arrow. The fireball hit the group of ghosts, and a mass of red smoke rose into the air; nothing was left when the smoke cleared.   "Robert, you are so cool..." The boys were shouting, but Robert put his hand up and said, "Hush, BOSS is coming!"
