Chapter 1 Tainted MemoriesThe summer of 2025 was a season that Kimberley could never forget as she and her bigger sister Andrea were playing on the fields of Plantain Hill, a remote village located in the country of Trinidad and Tobago, Kimberley was five years old while her sister Andrea was eleven years old, the two girls were like tomboys as they weren’t raised to play with dolls and makeup kits, they played sports such as football, cricket but their absolute favorite was netball. Andrea deeply loved her sister Kimberley as they played together kicking around their football on the field, the sky was clear and somber and you could hear the birds chirping within the distance, the sun was in its afternoon daze as it was cool yet warm.

Andrea took out two mangoes that she had within her knapsack saved up for when they were hungry and she gave Kimberley one while she took the other one and they began to eat, they laughed and girl talked but while they talked they were confronted by a group of boys that were liming on the block not too far from the field. The leader of the boys Kevin Sanchez did had her eyes on Andrea for a long time as she had curves for her age, “Ohhhh sweetness lime with we nah in the mood for some company.” Said Kevin as he tried to rope Andrea in with his pick-up lines, “ Kevin, me ah bag pon back, 25 to life plus strokes, you willing to take that chance?” as she confronted Kevin and his gang, they swarmed around the two young girls like lions stalking and tracking their prey aiming for the kill. Kevin and his gang so demented so sick that they only had one intention was to hit and run then suddenly Kimberley and Andrea’s bigger sister Eliza confronted Kevin and his gang, “Ay left my sister alone or else somebody blood go spill today and trust me I ain’t afraid to go prison for them neither.” said Eliza, “Sweetness, low we nah we go give you a 2000.00 each, from all of us just for an hour.” said Kevin and with that Eliza took out from her bag a brand new cutlass that she had gotten from Dinto’s Hardware Store and point it right at them, “As the sun a shine bright in the afternoon touch any one of my sisters and I killing every single one of you and have you buried with your balls chopped off.” Said Eliza and with that Kevin and his gang backed off from Andrea and Kimberley, “ Mi two heartbeats leh we go home before night hit we yes by the way I cooked fish broth eh.” Said Eliza as she walked them to their home located inside Breadfruit Trace.

Eliza was busy planting cassava in the back while Andrea and Kimberley were doing their chores before they ate their dinner. The sisters’ mother passed away due to drugs while their father was in and out of prison. Eliza at the time had to be both mother and father to her younger siblings as she dropped out of school at the age of thirteen just so that she could make sure that her younger sisters would get a proper education and a better life. Eliza was stricken with a rare form of tuberculosis so each time she worked strenuously in the garden she would sometimes suffer from chest pains but she ignored the pain and kept on plowing the soil so that money would come to feed her and her sisters. Eliza came out of the garden with sweet peppers, ripe figs, bananas, oranges, and mangoes in caucus bags and she would bring in two buckets of little pa mangoes. Andrea and Kimberley observed that Eliza was gaining and losing weight and also they had realized that she was coughing out blood on many occasions.

Kimberley asked Andrea what was wrong with Eliza and she told her that Eliza was sick, “Don’t think I ain’t hear you inno. I ain’t sick it just the little flu going around.” Said Eliza as she smiled at them, they were her diamonds, her motivations, her fuel, her everything as she looked at them while they were washing wares in the sink. Eliza told them to come and get a mango each and both of them carried five in a bowl, they messed up their clothes but its moments like that Eliza cherished the most knowing that she wouldn’t have long on this earth, Eliza told them to go and bathe after they had finished consuming their mangoes and with that, they went and bathe while Eliza bathes last as she was extremely tired from being in the garden all day planting.

The ladies had not too long finished bathe and they all sat down around the table and they said their grace before meals and due to Kimberley trying to grab another Hops bread as Eliza also baked she had to say her prayers and with that Kimberley bowed her head and closed her eyes and held her sister's hands around the table, “ Dear God bless this food we are about to eat, protect us even as we sleep, guide us through the dark pathways and let us look at your shining face one day in Jesus Christ name Amen.” Said Kimberley and with that, they ate their supper, “ Eliza, there’s this spelling bee competition I want to take part in and the prize is 30,000.00, I figured it would help it with the additional renovations around the house.” Said Andrea, Eliza was pleased about the competition and even responded by telling her that she would assist in training her for it.

Kimberley as young as she was had made a necklace for both Eliza and Andrea when she attended Plantain Hill Primary School and also she had made a card for Andrea, she opened the card and it was a drawing of Kimberley, Andrea, and Eliza with their house next to them and it said “ I love you sisters.”, Andrea was speechless as she had gotten the card, tears came down her eyes as she looked at Kimberley, Kimberley responded with a smile, a smile so innocent and so bright that Andrea would give up her life to save her, they finished ate their supper and they sat down watched tv, the sun had done set in the evening and with that Eliza took out her bible and came in front of Andrea and Kimberley, “ Andrea and Kimberley you know what time it is?” asked Eliza to them as they tried to gaze at the TV. Eliza took off the TV and came between them and showed them the bible.

Kimberley was very excited as Eliza would read stories from the bible but one story that interests her was the story of Jesus Christ, she was like a kid at the candy store when Eliza brought out the Bible. Andrea’s favorite bible story was that of Samson and Delilah. Eliza read them the story of Joseph and how he became ruler of all Egypt, from being a slave in the city to working in the King’s palace, “Always remember that God will always be with you no matter what trials and temptations that you are going through and don’t let no one take you for granted and learn to stand on your own feet.” said Eliza.

Eliza read them stories and taught them the bible until it was time for them to head for bed, all three of them knelt and say their prayers, and with that Eliza tucked them both to bed and Eliza gave Kimberley a music box and when it opened it was three horses running around in circles, the tone that was playing on it was a tone that Eliza composed for herself as she had a musical bone in her as well. Andrea looked at them and she couldn’t help but be a little jealous of Kimberley, “Anytime that you are feeling down and heavy laden with the burdens of life just open this box and listen to this tone as a reminder that no matter where you go, I go and God is at the center of your life.” Said Eliza as she kissed Kimberley on the forehead and tucked her to sleep, “What about my gift?” asked Andrea and Eliza came over to her bedside and took out a heart-shaped necklace with the picture of all three of them when they went to the Emperor Valley Zoo, “Keep this necklace dear to your heart as a reminder that your sisters will always love you and be there for you through thick and thin and let God be within your heart.” Said Eliza as she kissed her as well on her forehead and put her to sleep and then Eliza rushed towards the bathroom and vomit out blood. Andrea and Kimberley tried to assist her but Eliza told them to stay in their beds as she was raised as a fighter.

The next day Eliza got up early and did her morning prayer asking God to give her the strength to see her sisters become better role models for others to follow to not let them go by the wayside, to be of the world but not of it, she waked Andrea and Kimberley to bathe and prepare breakfast, Andrea made eggs and sausage while Kimberley made milk tea, Eliza was moving sluggish and was coughing constantly, her vision became blurry, she was sweating profusely but she took her towel and wiped her face but she had a red towel so anytime she coughed blood it wouldn’t show on the towel, “ Kimberley, Andrea we have to make a market runs today these fruits aren’t going to sell themselves.” said Eliza. Andrea looked at her and told her that she wasn’t going anywhere today as she observed that she wasn’t looking too healthy and Kimberley was observing it as well.

Eliza was trying to tell them that she had to sell these fruits or else T&TEC will cut off the lights but Kimberley and Andrea with tears in their eyes begged her not to go to the market, that sun would enhance her sickness if not treated properly, “Please stay away from me I don’t want you to have it please.” Said Eliza as she was clutching her chest and was unable to breathe and then suddenly there was a knock on the door and it was their father, Eliza grabbed both Andrea and Kimberley with haste and locked them in the bedroom while she deals with their father, “ Why are you preventing me from seeing your sisters?” asked the deranged father who just came out of prison, “ You interfered with me and break me out from a young age you dare not lay a finger on the two, even if I go dead me go certainly make sure I go take you with me.” said Eliza as she prepares to defend herself, “ Leave the past in the past nah I want to make up for a lost time.” Said the deranged father and Eliza responded by telling him that he could make up by not being involved in their lives and that they were just doing fine without him, the man was in a fit of rage and then he came towards Eliza so she stamped him on his knee causing him to stumble so Eliza could kick him again on his chest causing him to fall on the ground.

The father was ranting and raving hurling obscene language at Eliza, “ You dare talk to me like that after all, I have done for you including mind your daughters that you abandon after you r***d me and had two miscarriages by you, you are dead to me so come and take your licks like a so call man.” said Eliza as she prepares for round two, “ Ohhhhh so you didn’t tell them that we were both the cause as to why your mother died, how your promiscuous behavior sparked an inferno that caused your mother to go in a drug craze spiral resulting to her untimely death.” Said the father and that’s when the door was opened slowly and both Andrea and Kimberley heard everything, “Eliza, it was you that caused the death of our mother?” asked Andrea to Eliza as she looked at her with tears seeping through her bloodshot eyes and Kimberley just stand there oblivious as to what was going on, “Look, sis, I made a lot of mistakes and now I’m paying for it. I wanted to tell you but every single time that I had the opportunity and every single time you say that you love me, I just knew that it would hurt and you would never forgive me for it.” Said Eliza as tears came down her eyes.

The father harshly told Eliza to tell them everything, that they deserve to know what truly happened that fateful night when their mother passed away, “ The night when your mother died, she received news that I was pregnant about six months to be exact and I confessed that your father might be the father of the child?” said Eliza, Andrea’s head started to become dizzy while Kimberley was just speechless and then she raised the question as to where was the child and Eliza cried and wept bitterly as she made the shocking confession that she was her child. Andrea burst the necklace that Eliza gave to her and threw it right back at her face, “No wonder, no wonder you value and appreciate Kimberley more than me.” Said Andrea as the tears couldn’t stop flowing, Eliza coughed out a lot of blood but she wiped her mouth, “You turned my two heartbeats against me, none of us is not coming out of this house alive that includes you and Andrea, Kimberley.” said Eliza as her main intention now was to kill everyone in the house including herself in whatever way possible, “Kids stay in your room while Daddy talks with your sister.” Said the man and Eliza made him know as far as she’s concerned she has no one now so life isn’t worth living and then the two got in a physical fight as the house was a battle zone. Eliza pick up two beer bottle and pelt it at the father, he missed both of them and then he took a kitchen knife from his pocket and Eliza took up a Chinese chopper from the utensil pile and it was like a battle for blood but the man got the upper hand as he stabbed Eliza at the right side of her ribs causing her lung to be punctured, she started to bleed profusely from her side and blood continuously came out her mouth, Eliza in a berserk rage dealt several chop wounds to the man and then she picked up a bottle and bust open his left eye, the man was bleeding profusely as he went outside leaving a blood trail, he collapsed a short distance away and died on the spot, onlookers and neighbors were watching the action unfold through their kitchen windows to even taking out their smart phones to record some of the action, Eliza in her blood drench jersey and pants came out with the Chinese Chopper and went towards the body of the man known as her father who’s lying there motionless and sliced off his head, her eyes cold and demented as she did the horrible act in full view of neighbors and onlookers who were going about their business, it was a f*******:, youtube and i********: moment for Eliza as onlookers recorded everything on their smart phones as they witness the gruesome act but the onlookers realize that Eliza had a blood trail but the trail was more larger than the father whom she had killed so one of the neighbors called the ambulance.
