Chapter 3

My breath got caught in my throat, his eyes were out of this universe. For a moment, all I could do was stop and stare, both my body and mind enthralled at the sight. His eyes travelled lower, taking his dead time examining my body. It was then that I remembered that I barely had any clothes on. My cheeks felt like they were burning up at the reminder. I quickly turned around to cover myself but soon realized my mistake when I heard his sharp intake of breath. I'd just given my step-brother a full view of my ass! I could feel my heart racing in my chest, the pounding was so loud that I could hear it. My body froze as I heard footsteps behind of me, I felt a shiver down my spine at just the thought of him getting closer to me. I felt his body heat against mine and totally surprising me, he reached above me and grabbed a towel from one of the cabinets. Before I could respond, he gently wrapped the cloth around my body. "Is everything okay?" he asked. I fought to find my voice again. "Y-yes. . . I screamed because I felt something lick my foot." What exactly was that? It was then that a small, fluffy white puppy showed itself in front of me. "There you are Zoey," Chase whispered as he leaned down and picked her up from the ground. "I apologize, I didn't realize she was in here. She's my aunt's Samoyed puppy. I'm sure she is going crazy looking for her." She was beautiful. I finally built up the courage to look him in the eyes again, just like I thought. . . I'd imagined them being gold once more. I needed to rest before I completely lost it today. It was like I wouldn't rest until I'd completely made a fool of myself. "It's okay, I was just a little startled." He nodded, "I'll give her to my aunt and wait in the car for you downstairs." I bit my lip and his eyes lingered there for a few seconds before he sharply made a run for the door. Before I had a chance to say anything else he was already out the door, slamming it shut behind him. I couldn't believe it, it was only my first time meeting Chase and I'd managed to already embarrass myself in front of the actor! I couldn't wait to talk to Lizzie, my best friend in the whole world. There was no way she was going to believe a word of this! When I'd finished with the change of clothes, I hurried downstairs. Chase was waiting in the car, like he said he would. I tried my best not to do anything stupid like trip on my own two feet. I was known for doing embarrassing things whenever I was nervous. I settled in the seat next to him, his scent hitting my nose the moment I shut the door. I'd never known that a man could smell this good, I wanted to lean closer to him and inhale deeply. Chase cleared his throat as though he'd just heard my thoughts. "Your mother already gave me the directions, so you can just sit back and enjoy the ride." I nodded, digging my fingers into my jeans. For some reason my mouth lost the ability to speak. So for the rest of the ride, we were both quiet, the tension in the air difficult to miss. I felt my body relax a little the moment Brad's apartment came into view. "Is this it?" Chase asked. Once more all I could do was manage to nod my head. He quietly parked the car and turned to me. "Am, I'll be right back." I told him, trying my best not to be awkward but failing miserably. He nodded, without saying a word. I let go of a breath I didn't know I was holding as soon as I got out the vehicle. I made my way into the apartment using the spare key Brad had given to me. I needed to see him, needed to remind myself that he was the man I was dating. . . Not the billionaire, Chase Torres! I planned on walking into his room and surprising him. However, a weird sound caught my attention and had me frozen to the spot. Was that moaning? It sounded like a woman's voice. My hand shook as I shoved the door open. What I saw next had every nerve in my body exploding. "Oh my God!" Lizzie screamed as she covered her naked body from me. "Cianna. . ." Brad said, his eyes wide open. My boyfriend and my best friend. My boyfriend and my best friend? This wasn't happening to me. I felt an ache in my chest, I hadn't been betrayed by one of them, but both? I wanted to scream at them both but for some reason nothing was coming out of my mouth. I was still in shock and I couldn't seem to find the right words at the time. Without waiting to be embarrassed further by the two people that meant so much to me, I made a dash for the door. I was so caught up with running and getting away from those two that I hadn't realized Chase was waiting right there on the doorstep. It was too late and I crashed straight into him. He caught my waist before I could fall to the ground. His grip on my body surprisingly helped to keep me from completely losing it. I felt Chase finger on my chin and he gently lifted my face so that he could see my eyes. His face was strained with concern as he gazed at me. "Did something happen?" "Cianna!" I stiffened at Brad's call. I nodded at Chase and he slowly let go of his hold on my waist. Even though I didn't want to, I turned to face my cheating boyfriend. Well ex-boyfriend. "Look, I can explain." He said as his eyes shifted between Chase and I. "Who's he?" Brad asked as he took him in. Chase stiffened, I could practically feel the tension rolling off his body in great waves. I crossed my arms over my chest, feeling a lot more powerful now that I had Chase by my side. "We're done. I don't want to ever see you or hear from you ever again." His eyes widened in horror. "Cianna please," he begged as he reached forward to grip my hand. However, Chase stepped forward and pushed his hand away from me. Brad's face hardened as he faced Chase. He was about to say something when Lizzie walked out, her eyes widening the moment it fell on my step-brother. "Is that Chase Torres?" she asked, gaping at him. Was that all she had to say? We'd been best friends for over five years now. Five years! "I never expected this from you," I told her. "I hope this was worth jeopardizing our friendship." She wasn't looking at me now, her eyes were focused on the ground. "Cianna, just give me one chance to explain please." Brad begged. Chase gripped my waist and guided me back to the car despite the calls of my angry ex-boyfriend. I could feel the heat from where he touched me.As soon as we were both settled in, Brad appeared in front of the car, blocking us from driving off. Chase's hands tightened on the steering wheel and before I had a chance to say anything he was out the car and facing Brad with a very pissed off expression.  Now that he was standing next to my ex boyfriend, I realized just how big he was. Chase was all masculine, everything about him was intense and radiated power. I didn't need someone to tell me that he could beat Brad's ass in a split second without breaking a sweat. My eyes widened as he gripped Brad's jersey and lifted him into the air. Oh God. This wasn't happening.
