Entering the ancient beast era
Calista lay on the ground, already unable to feel the pain in her body.
The words her parents had told her still seemed to echo in her ears.
“Calista, after today you’ll officially be an adult. We don’t want to keep this from you anymore. We’ve already been divorced for several years, and now we both have new lives.
This apartment will be left to you. Since you’re an adult now, you’ll need to start living on your own.
Whatever you choose to do in the future will be up to you. We sent you to a boarding school all these years so that you could learn to be independent early!”
Calista let out a bitter laugh, and blood flowed from the corner of her mouth. She had thought that no matter how hard life became, she could still endure it — but she never expected that while traveling alone to clear her mind, she would accidentally fall off a cliff.
Her vision was beginning to blur. She felt that she was probably going to die, yet she felt unwilling in her heart.
She had just turned eighteen. There were still so many places she hadn’t been to. Of all the flavors of life, she had only tasted bitterness. Her life had only just begun — she didn’t want to leave like this.
But no matter how unwilling she was, her consciousness was already fading.
Just as she was about to lose consciousness completely, she seemed to hear a mechanical female voice.

Calista tried hard to hear what the voice was saying, but her mind was already hazy. She only seemed to catch a few words — system, binding, beast world — before she completely lost consciousness.
“Big Brother, there’s another female over here!”
“Let me see… Sigh. She’s so thin, looks like she’s not even an adult yet. And with this build, she doesn’t look like she’d be good for bearing children. We can only trade her for some food.”
“What a pity! If we hadn’t spent so long attacking the Black Stone Tribe, our Iron Wolf Tribe wouldn’t be unable to support these females.”
“What else can we do? Winter is coming, and our tribe doesn’t have much stored food. We can only trade away the young and weak females from the Black Stone Tribe.”
In her half-conscious state, Calista heard two men talking. The language was clearly unfamiliar, yet she could understand it — though she couldn’t comprehend what they meant.
She forced open her heavy eyelids and saw two tall men, bare-chested and wearing only black animal-skin skirts, staring at her.
Calista was startled and instinctively shrank backward, her eyes filled with fear.
These two men were at least two meters tall, their bodies covered in bulging muscles. They looked unbelievably strong. Calista had never seen men like this. Remembering what they had just said, she became so frightened she didn’t dare move.
The two men saw that Calista had woken up, but did not avoid her gaze at all. The taller one looked her over and said regretfully,
“She does look rather cute… but she’s too weak. Otherwise, she could’ve been kept as a shared mate.”
The shorter one’s eyes showed a trace of lechery. He gave the taller man a meaningful look and said,
“Big Brother, why don’t the two of us try her out first?”
When Calista heard this, she trembled in terror, tears welling in her eyes.
She had already faintly remembered what happened before she lost consciousness and roughly understood that something strange — like binding to a system and traveling to another world — must have happened.
But she still knew nothing about her current situation. Her mind was full of chaotic information she hadn't sorted through yet, and now she encountered danger like this.
The taller man shot the shorter one a glare and said sternly,
“Don’t even think about that. War captives belong to the whole tribe. If you ruin her, you’ll be expelled.”
He then grabbed the limp Calista and continued,
“I’ll send her to the captive holding area first. Go check if there are any females or supplies left behind.”
The shorter one pouted but didn’t argue. He gave Calista one last reluctant look before turning away.
Calista finally breathed a sigh of relief — but the next instant, she was slung over the tall man’s shoulder.
Before she could react, he was already running with her at incredible speed, making her dizzy.
Before long, the bewildered Calista was put down at the entrance of a cave…
Before long, the bewildered Calista was put down at the entrance of a cave.
The tall man said something to the males guarding the cave, then pushed Calista forward, signaling her to go inside.
Calista’s legs were still weak, and she didn’t dare resist. She could only obediently walk into the cave.
As soon as she entered, she saw more than a dozen girls inside — though in this world, they were all called “females.”
At a glance, they all looked lifeless. Their eyes were empty, as if they had already lost hope in life.
Calista was in no mood to talk to anyone. She withdrew her gaze and found a corner to sit down, beginning to sort through the information in her mind.
From the information given by the system, she learned that this world was completely different from the one she grew up in. Life here was about the same as the primitive era in her original world.
But the people here were completely different.
They were all called beastmen. The men were called male beastmen — they were physically strong and could transform between human form and beast form.
Women were called females. They were born in human form and were relatively weak, so they were always protected by the males.
They didn’t hunt or labor much and were provided for by the tribe.
Once they reached adulthood, they had to choose a male as a mate and bear children. If they did not have a male they liked, the elders or tribal chief would assign them a mate.
The stronger and sturdier a female’s body was, the more sought-after she was — because that meant she was good for childbirth.
But females like them, whose tribe had been destroyed, had no status at all.
Those who were strong would be kept as breeding tools. Any single male in the tribe who made achievements would be allowed mating rights — they would essentially become shared wives.
Children born this way would be raised collectively by the tribe until adulthood.
As for underage or weak captive females, they would be kept only if the tribe had enough food. Otherwise, they would be sold in exchange for resources.
If they were sold, a lucky one might find a tolerable home. An unlucky one would become nothing more than a public plaything.
After organizing this information, Calista’s face turned pale.
As someone who came from a modern world, she could not accept becoming a childbearing tool.
She couldn’t even accept having relationships with men she didn’t love — let alone being forced to give birth.
She wanted to live, yes — but if living meant losing all dignity, she would rather die.
Two tears slid silently down her still-youthful face, but in her eyes there was a faint firmness.
She had to find a way to escape. No matter how slim the chance, she had to try. If she failed — then she would die trying!
Calista blinked, suddenly remembering that she seemed to have bound a system.
She wiped her tears away, glanced around to make sure no one was paying attention to her, then silently called out to the system in her mind.
The next moment, a system interface appeared before her.
Calista panicked for a second and quickly checked the others in the cave — but they showed no reaction. Only then did she breathe a sigh of relief and focus again on the panel.
On it were the words: 【Ancient Survival Guide】
Below that were character-like attributes.
The panel was very simple — everything could be seen at a glance:
Host: Calista
Gender: Female Beastman
Mate: None
System Space: One cubic meter (Upgradeable. Upgrade conditions must be discovered by the host!)
Remaining Identifications Today: 3 (Cannot be accumulated)
And that was all.
Calista, who had originally held great hopes, instantly deflated when she saw this.
What use was this system?
What even was “identification”?
And the only seemingly useful thing — the storage space — couldn’t even be upgraded right now!
She sat there blankly for a long time, only to be brought back by the sound of her hungry stomach growling.
She glanced at the system panel again, then picked up a stone beside her and silently thought about storing it.
The next second, the stone disappeared from her hand.
When she closed her eyes, she realized she could still “see” it — sitting in a white, empty storage space. And as long as she willed it, it would reappear in her hand.
Calista took the stone back out, a hint of joy flashing through her eyes.
At least the space was useful.
She began to think about how she could use it to escape.
Just then, several strong males entered the cave. As always, their upper bodies were bare.
They passed out food — only some fruit and raw vegetable leaves — then left.
Calista looked at the green fruit and a few leaves in her hands and almost cried.
She wasn’t a picky eater — but she had never eaten something like this.
But her hunger was unbearable. Gritting her teeth, she took a bite of the fruit.
A strange taste instantly filled her mouth.
Bitter. Astringent. Sour.
It was so awful that her eyes instantly filled with tears — but for the sake of survival, she swallowed it anyway.
She barely chewed before forcing the fruit down, then stuffed the vegetable leaves into her mouth.
To her surprise, they weren’t bitter — they were slightly sweet, like the lettuce back on Blue Star.
Her eyes lit up. She quickly examined the leaves, wanting to memorize their appearance.
Just then, a line of text appeared beside them:
