6 Paranoia As soon as I arrived in the lobby, a uniformed officer informed us that he’d be giving us a ride back to Jessica’s car. I had been surprised to see that Jessica was still at the police station. I had figured her parents would have already come and picked her up. But it turned out that Jessica’s parents lived in Los Angeles—and besides they were in Europe at the moment. I felt really bad for her.
