Laney's POV “Wake-up darling,” I heard my mother’s voice, “Happy 16th Birthday my beautiful baby girl.” my father tapped on my arm to get me up. “Oh dad, mom, I want to sleep, please.” I turned over towards them with a smile. My mom brushes my hair back and says “honey, it’s your 16th birthday. Don’t you want to meet your wolf?” I smiled back at her, “of course, but I won’t meet her till tonight, and it is..” I leaned forward to look at my alarm clock and noticed it was 7am and I needed to get ready for school. “Oh no I need to get ready, I’m going to be late and Casey said she will pick me up with her new car that her parents got her.” I scramble away from my parents and my mom turns and starts walking out with my dad, she turns and smiles and looks at me and says “breakfast will be in 20 minutes, so hurry dear”. I smile back. “Okay mom.” I go ahead and get in the shower. Once done, I wrap myself in my towel and stare at myself in my slight fog mirror. I don’t look or feel any different to what I did before. Some say that they can feel the shift starting the morning of their 16th birthday, but not me and it has me worried a bit. Maybe I am one of those that will know at midnight. ‘oh I hope.’ I head down the stairs and once I arrive in the dining room/kitchen, I smile. I see my dad enjoying a nice cup of coffee while staring at my mom, his mate with love in his eyes, and my mom placing the large plate of bacon and french toast on the table. My parents are very lovey, but only in the privacy of their own home. In public, they are strong warriors for the Alpha and they believe in public to keep up with appearances. I am okay with that. I understand, someday I hope to make them proud. I take a seat at the table and smile and started eating, “How are you feeling, do you feel any different?” my dad asks. “I feel a little different and I can’t wait till tonight.” I said and then I hear a faint honk and realize it is my dear and bestest friend Casey, “Okay well it is time for me to go, love you both and I will see you tonight.” Mom yells after me “Don’t be late.” I run out the door, and see Casey so excited in her new car. She turned 17, 2 days ago and will find her mate next year. She is graduating early. and going off to fashion school in the city, I will miss her. So we take our time together seriously. “OH MY GOSH” “I know right, my dad was really nice and got me this adorable jeep.” “I love the color, it so suites you.” I said to her with a smile. School was quick. We received a couple of happy birthdays from the teachers and a few friends. I met up with Casey and we walked out to her Jeep. “We have to stop at my house so we can change, then head out.” I told her. “Okay, I brought my things, and I went to the mall yesterday and got you the perfect gift, you can see it when we get to your house.” “You know you don’t have to do that.” I told her, I wasn’t expecting gifts. As we park in front of my house I noticed that my parents weren’t home. We walk in and I see a note on the Fridge door in the kitchen, “Hey Sweetie, We have gone ahead to the packhouse, we will see you tonight. Love MOM and DAD.” “P.S. Don’t be late dear.” I smiled and left the note on fridge and went up to my room where Casey was waiting with my gift from her. “I guess it’s just us to get ready, mom and dad left to the packhouse already.” “Okay, well open this.” I take the box from her and open it to see a beautiful pink dress, that was loose, long and flowy. Easy to take off before shifting. “Oh Casey its beautiful, I love it!” I hugged her and she smiled. “Great, now let's get your hair and makeup done and then dress so we can head out on time.” We both laughed and started to get ready. We headed to the jeep and started heading towards the packhouse. I started to freakout a bit because I still didn’t feel any different than before. I was getting worried that I may not be able to shift at all, or that my wolf was weak and my parents would be embarrassed. We arrived at the packhouse, there were balloons and decorations everywhere. We went inside and were greeted with a great big “SURPRISE” that scared me, but I smiled and located my parents and gave them a big hug. I noticed Alpha Michael, Luna Angie, and future Alpha Damien standing off to the side smiling. They all said Happy Birthday to me, although Damien seemed tense and instead of staying, he walked away. I am not sure what happened. It made me worry a bit. As time got closer for me to shift, I started freaking out a bit more. I am not sensing my wolf at all. I needed to let my parents know. I started walking towards them, they were near the buffet table. “Mom, Dad, I need to speak to the both of you.” “Okay, dear, but hold on, it is time” said my mom. She leads me to the backside of the packhouse and outside, we are alone with just my parents and the Alpha and Luna. I looked up and noticed the full moon, but I wasn’t feeling anything. Alpha Michael smelled the air and looked at me with wide eyes. He had a serious, deadly look on his face and my eyes started tearing up a bit. “YOU DON’T HAVE A WOLF.” Luna and my parents looked at me in shame. Apparently, being wolfless is weak and Alpha Michael doesn’t like weakness in his pack, and it also means human. I stepped back as he walked towards me and he grabbed my arm and yelled at my parents. “Your daughter is wolfless and will not be a member of my pack.” He then throws me down and I just start sobbing on the ground. “Mom, Dad I am so sorry,” “You are no daughter of mine.” with anger, my dad slaps me and continues till Damien steps forward and growls and pushes my father back. “You will not lay another hand on her, do you understand?” He spoke in his future alpha tone. “Son she is banished from this pack, she has no wolf.” Damien looks back at me and then at his father, “lets discuss this inside, Laney go home.” I did as he said and ran home without stopping. I went straight to my room and cried myself to sleep.
