The Party
I am Shannela Megan Peterson, the daughter of the wealthiest corrupt politician in the Philippines. I already have everything; beauty, intelligence, and, most of all, I am rich. I am one of the five children of Garret Peterson, the most corrupt politician in the country. I knew when I was a child that this was what my father was doing, but many people are blind to events in the country. Even the President of the Philippines, Monato Aguilar, is incompetent to my father. The president of the Philippines is even afraid of him. On Saturday, at eight o'clock in the evening, there's a party that will take place at Lozano's house. The Lozano family is also one of the wealthiest families in the Philippines, which is my father's most prominent opponent. They can't even get along because the Lozanos have good hearts and their aspirations for the people and intentions were good.
"Megan! What the hell did you do again!" my very good father growled at me, and it echoed in my room. I woke up immediately and looked at him with sleepy eyes. I couldn't have some proper sleep because of him, and I rolled my eyes.
"Dad, it's still early in the morning. Why are you being noisy?" I asked him while my eyes were half-opened.
"Megan, there's a party later, and we need to get ready. Mr. Lozano's son is also there who you're going to marry," I just rolled my eyes at what I heard. I have heard this a hundred times already, and it looks like my Dad isn't tired of this thing yet.
I didn't know if such a thing only happens in movies, but it happened in real life. The ones they say arrange marriage? I felt that, and I can relate to a film with that kind of plot. I love to read stories, but I have never read a loved story. I don't believe there is a forever in the person who loves. For me, it's enough for me to have a date even if we haven't been together for a long time. I have had many boyfriends for the past few years. And by the way, I'm 22 years of age now, but no one has stayed because I don't believe in love. And also, I'm afraid of commitment. Even if other people say I'm weird when it comes to love, I don't care.
I have had five boyfriends already, but all of them, just one night's stand. I'm used to it because I also meet them at bars and clubs. That thing is not new to me.
I sighed before getting up from lying down. I looked at the wall clock, and I was surprised that it was noon when I woke up. I stretched my arms before finally getting up and going to the bathroom. After I took a bath, I went out and I got dressed. When I finally went out of my room, I saw Dad, looking at me seriously.
"I'm going to work now. I'll see you at the party, okay?"
"Yes, Dad,"
I am already at the table with my three other siblings. My Brother Leon is a lawyer. Think about it; a corrupt politician has a son who is a lawyer. How ironic and funny is that to think about, right? I couldn't even think how we lived in this kind of place. Next up, my sister Bella. She's a good sister, and she's a teacher. She's humble, but she can't control her love life. What I mean is ... When Bella falls in love, she gives everything, and it seems like she has no passion left for herself.
The third is Ben. He's a sales manager. I didn't see him around the house because he was always away from home. So, I don't bond with him much. The fourth is me. I have already said who I am, so the last one is Reina. Reina is still schooling, and she is now taking a medicine degree. She wants to be a doctor because that's what my Dad said. And by the way, I happen to own an entertainment store. Famous artists like Maya Guerero are in my company.
So enough of that. We are eating right now. As usual, Ben was not there because he was busy because of his business that he had hiding from Dad and us. I was devastated when Bella suddenly looked at me.
"I heard Dad arranged your marriage to Sebastian," he said. Reina and Leon looked at me with a frown. I swallowed what I was eating and was about to speak when Leon suddenly said, "Sebastian? That Lozano Boy?" he uttered with laughter. Sebastian was my classmate back then in high school, and even then, my Dad and his parents wanted us to get married. I don't find him attractive because I flirt so much that it didn't take long, so I didn't give him interest and attention. And I never thought that I'd be right here in this situation right now.
"So. You're going to marry him?" Reina asked, as if she was telling me not to do it.
"I don't know," was my only answer.
The surroundings became quiet, and we continued to eat. "Leon, are you going to the party later?" Bella asked him. Leon stopped eating and looked at her, "No, I have a case to handle."
"Ah, alright, what about you, Reina?"
"I'll go with Megan," I looked at Reina as I turned and pouted. I would have planned not to go because our Dad would be showing off among the guests again. I had nothing to say, but to roll my eyes as I continued what I was doing.
Later that evening, the makeup artist that Dad had picked up for us arrived home. But I don't want others to put makeup on me, and I know how to put makeup on myself. I want it to be simple yet elegant and sexy.
Reina and Bella are in the makeup room, and the makeup artist is putting on their makeup. By the way, our Mother is not here, she went abroad, and they got divorced when my mom found out what my Dad was doing. We only go home to our first house once a week because we have our own house.
I went to my room to get ready. I wore my black Romwe One Shoulder Sleeveless Split Hem Satin cocktail Midi dress. I put light makeup on my face for a natural look; I'm gorgeous. When I came out of my room, I immediately went to Reina. She looked so beautiful in her outfit, an off-shoulder short-sleeved high-low cocktail skater dress. It seems so simple, but it suits her body and her gentle face.
"You look beautiful, Reina," I complimented her, and she returned it with a broad smile. Immediately, Bella caught my attention, who is now wearing a deep V-neck Mini dress-U back Sequin Irregular Hem Evening Dress with glitters, and it's painful to the eyes a bit.
"Woah, you look lovely, Bella," I complimented her. She smiled at me, "You too, Megan. It's kinda simple, yet it's sexy," she said, as if she was teasing me.
The preparation is all done. Leon went to court immediately for a hearing. He went out of the house due to a case he was handling. It was a complicated case because he had to defend a criminal to make her not guilty. And that's one reason why I don't want to be a lawyer. Lawyers need to lie for them to win a case, and I don't want that.
We got into our own car. Reina went with Bella, and I was the only one in the car.
"Just act like yourself, Megan," I said to myself, and started to drive.
There were a lot of people at the party. There were also reporters, and flashes from the camera greeted me. The lights that penetrate my eyes are too painful for my eyes, but I still have to smile in front of the camera for my image to be good. I'm a Goddess, and I will stay that way. I had already entered the hall; the venue was huge because many guests attended the party. It was an anniversary party for Sebastian's parents.
I saw and took a glass of wine from the waiter. I then saw my Dad talking to other influential people in the country. I rolled my eyes and shook my head while looking at him. Then Reina came closer to me, "Megan ... You're here. Come on," she said and immediately pulled me away from the table I was standing on.
"Where are we going, Reina?"
"Dad's looking for you," she said as we continued walking.
We are in a room. There's a sofa and a large mirror inside. Reina let go of my hand and faced me. "Dad will come soon. Wait for him here, Megan," she said and immediately went out and locked the door. I ran towards the door and tried to open it, but it turned out to be closed.
"Reina, why did you lock the door?" I shouted into the room as I tried to open the door, but I couldn't.
"I'm sorry, Megan. Dad told me to do this," I gasped at what I heard. I slowly leaned in closer at the door with my fist clenched. I know Dad would do things like that. How childish!
"I'm sorry, Megan," was the last thing I heard from Reina before she left. I leaned my back at the door and raised my head. I roamed around the room to see all that was in it. I realized that I had left my phone in the car, so I just gasped because of the boredom I was feeling. I went to the sofa and sat down, and leaned my back on it.
I raised my fingers and looked at them. I loved myself. For me, I am perfect. I was in deep thought while waiting for Dad to arrive, but suddenly I heard the sound of the door opening. I raised my head and immediately adjusted to sitting.
"Dad. I-" I stopped when I didn't see Dad but instead, I saw Sebastian. Like me, he was surprised to see me. He averted his gaze at me, but suddenly someone pushed him in and immediately closed the door.
"Hey! What the-!" he cursed. I didn't know what to say or react to. We are the only two in this room, which is very awkward.
A few minutes had passed, the two of us were still silent while Sebastian was leaning against the wall at the side.
"Should I talk to him or what?" I asked myself, but before I could speak, he spoke.
"So, I guess you're that Megan, right?" he asked. I was surprised by what he said. "Like what? I'm that Megan? Hello ... I'm just Megan, who owns a popular entertainment centre in the whole Philippines.
"So, I guess you're that Sebastian, right?"
He scoffed, "Are you imitating me?"
"Why would I imitate you? I have my own uniqueness, Mister Sebastian."
"It's Mateo, not Sebastian," he corrected. I don't know, but I'm disgusted with his behavior. I don't think I can live with him or even with him for a day. Why would Dad think we can get married when his personality is too much for me to handle? I bared my teeth while looking at him. He doesn't seem to have changed even a little. He's still cold and rude, even before, he's still the same.
I rolled my eyes, "Alright, nice to meet you, Mister Mateo."
"So, are you going to stare at me like that?"
"W-What?"
"You keep staring at me, Ms. Megan. Do you want me so badly, right? Am I right?"
Megan scoffed, "Me? Want you so badly? In your dreams, Mister Mateo. Why would I want you so badly? I don't even like you and that rude attitude of yours."
To be continued...
