Chapter 3

“It’s coming back!”, the weapon operator yelled as he looked through the window and saw the enraged fist approaching them. The pilot swerved, barely avoiding the attack. “Go-.”, before the weapon operator could finish his sentence, the enraged fist exploded near them, causing the helicopter to lose control. By the time the enraged fist exploded, the other helicopters opened fire at The Destroyer. The Destroyer dashed swiftly away from the attacks. The rest of the aerial and land troops arrived. “Change positions, scatter and let’s shoot him in four different directions.”, The captain of the aerial defense team arrived in a slightly better helicopter. “Rescue our people!”, the chief of the police department ordered his assistant. “Yes, sir!”, the police assistant chief aimed his hands at Martin, Jess, and Axel. A positive mark appeared on his palms, while a negative mark appeared on the foreheads of his fellow police officers. After a few seconds, all three of them were pulled towards him. “Thank you!”, all three said one after another. “Are you okay, Martin?”, the police head assistant asked him. “I’m still in the zone, my entire body is stressed. It will take a while to return to normal, but I’ll be fine.”, Martin replied. “Offensive team, attack the target with G-tier guns.”, the police head ordered his people. Dozens of police officers were preparing their Shard-G Super Pistol weapons as The Destroyer was dodging the attacks from war helicopters. “Squadron D, help Squadron A. I think they are going to crash. The rest of you keep attacking”, the aerial captain ordered her people. “Got it!”, the Squadron D pilot responded. “This is quite a nice exercise.”, The Destroyer kept on dodging the attacks. As he was dodging, the police officers were firing their G-tier guns, forcing him to switch his strategy. “We got them!”, the pilot of Squadron D announced to her superior, as the rescue of the pilot and the weapon operator from Squadron A was successful. “Okay, I’m done playing around.”, The Destroyer enveloped his legs with rage energy and propelled himself to the top of the helicopter of Squadron B. “What is he doing here?!”, the weapon operator of Squadron B nervously shouted as he looked at the ceiling of the helicopter. “Get out of here!”, the pilot demanded as she moved the helicopter in different directions. “We can’t shoot him from here.”, the police head said to his people. “Well, this is the only gun I have here.”, The weapon operator of Squadron C fired a series of shots of a C-tier gun Campfire-C at The Destroyer. “Oh hello there.”, The Destroyer smiled at the pilot of Squadron B after he punched a hole and peaked inside. “Get me closer!”, the weapon operator of Squadron C demanded the pilot. “I’ll try to get us closer but that might get us in his attacking range.”, the pilot explained. “He’s here!”, the Squadron B pilot screamed. “Oh s**t!”, the captain said. The weapon operator of Squadron B swung an enraged punch to break the door that divided the pilot and the passenger. “Get out!”, the weapon operator aimed the cannon at The Destroyer and charged it. “Not the wisest decision you ever made.”, he wrapped his right hand on the tip of the cannon upon shooting, causing an explosion. The explosion took the lives of the pilot and the operator inside as the vehicle along with their dead bodies crashed to the ground and landed near an apartment building. “Oh no!”, the screams and panic of the police officers, operators, and pilots echoed. “Who’s next?”, The Destroyer rose from the debris of the aircraft and jumped to the nearest helicopter. “I won’t allow you to take any more lives!” Before he could land on the helicopter, the captain pulled up an S-tier gun Lethality-S, and shot him directly in the head. The bullet penetrated through the defenseless enemy’s head and he fell down to the ground. The police officers circled around his body as they observed if he was dead or alive. “Is he dead?”, Axel peaked at the scene. “There’s no way he survived that, right?”, Jess wondered. “I don’t know…”, Martin locked his eyes on The Destroyer, hoping he would not come back up. The helicopters landed on the ground and they joined the police officers in observing the body. “How is he doing?”, the captain asked as she tried to hold back her anger. “Blood is flowing from his head and his body hasn’t moved an inch. But we still have to check his pulse”, the police head replied. “What gun did you use, Captain?”, the pilot from Squadron C asked. “It’s an S-tier gun, I-I got it a few weeks ago. It takes a while to load up, but it hits hard.”, the captain explained as she wiped her tears away. “I’ll go check his pulse.”, the assistant chief volunteered. He slowly walked toward the body, carefully examining any signs of life. The police head assistant reached for The Destroyer’s hand to check his pulse when all of a sudden The Destroyer grabbed his hand. The Destroyer quickly stood up and wrapped his left arm around the police officer. The blood stopped flowing from his head, and all his injuries started to heal up. In no time, he returned back to his healthy form with no trace of bruise or wound. Fear took over them once again as everyone on the scene reloaded their guns and aimed them at the formidable enemy. “What’s with those faces? Is this the first time you saw someone self-regenerate?”, The Destroyer said with sheer arrogance. He knew the authorities had no fight left in them and decided to make things easier for them. “You want this guy? How about a deal?”, he locked his eyes on the police head. “What kind of deal do you want?”, the police head asked. All his past experiences in dealing with this kind of situation helped him remain stoic and sensible. “Let’s exchange people.”, The Destroyer said. He positioned his right hand near the neck of the hostage, mimicking a gun. “Give me Martin, and you can get this guy back.”, he added. “And if you don’t, tonight will be the last time you’ll see this guy.”, he moved his right hand in a shooting gesture at the police head assistant’s neck. “What do we do?”, the captain stared at the police head with deep concern. The police head did not answer, he looked at Martin and then his assistant. He wanted his partner back but didn’t want anybody else to get harmed in the process. “Just give me a second.”, he finally uttered a word. He looked down, trying to avoid seeing the faces of the people around him. He went quiet as he carefully weighed up the situation. “Fine, but make it quick.”, the captain looked at the police head and then took a glance at Martin. “Why do you want Martin?”, Jess walked a few steps forward from her spot and directly asked The Destroyer. “Ask him.”, The Destroyer tilted his head to Martin. Martin remained quiet, but his anger was evident in his eyes. “I know you know this guy, but is there something else we don’t know about?”, Axel chimed in. “There’s nothing, I-I just stumbled upon him once, while patrolling.”, Martin replied with a poker face and avoided looking at anyone. “Is that it?”, The Destroyer raised an eyebrow. “Not betraying your partner is part of the oath that we took as law enforcement agents. Is there something that you were hiding from us?”, Jess walked toward Martin and stared at him deeply into his eyes. “This is taking too long, just make a decision.”, The Destroyer shot a rage energy projectile at the foot of the hostage. The hostage screamed in pain. “Officer Jackson!”, the captain yelled at the police head. “If we don’t play this right, we’re gonna lose both of them. You have no experience in handling hostage-taking so keep quiet!”, Officer Jackson yelled abruptly. “Okay, we’ll exchange Martin for August.”, Officer Jackson took a deep breath and made up his decision. “Martin, I’m sorry.”, he whispered as he grabbed Martin by his arm. “See, it’s not that hard.”, The Destroyer said. He let go of August and handed him over to Officer Jackson. Officer Jackson walked Martin to the enemy, but before The Destroyer could grab him the police head shot him with the S tier gun in the chest. The captain sneakily passed him the weapon earlier while the others were talking. “You can’t even follow a simple negotiation.”, The Destroyer backed off a few steps back. Before he could retaliate, August used his signature ability to pull three trucks behind them and smashed them into their enemy. “Why did you-”, Martin said as the other police officers pulled him away from the fight. “Just go!”, one of the police officers replied. “I hope everyone is ready for another fight. If the head can’t kill him, maybe shooting him in the heart will.”, Officer Jackson ordered his people. “This one takes a few minutes to shoot again, next time I’ll make sure to directly hit him in the heart.”, he looked at his weapon before hiding it in his pocket.
