“All of these efforts, just for one guy?”, The Destroyer emerged from the attack by pushing away the trucks with his rage energy. The wound in his chest healed up again in just a matter of seconds.
“I don’t like leaving anyone behind.”, Officer Jackson covered his entire body with rage energy, preparing for a fight.
“What is this, another one of those stupid oaths you took as a cop?”, The Destroyer slowly walked toward him.
“No, this is my personal conviction.”, rage energy swirled in his fists as pieces of rocks from the ground orbited on his fists. He punched forward, and the enraged rocks on his hands lunged at the enemy. The Destroyer obliterated the rocks as soon as they touched his rage energy. The Destroyer pushed forward. Officer Jackson controlled the ground beneath him, summoning a spike made up of the material that was used in making the road of the highway. The spike was destroyed by the enemy’s rage energy. The Destroyer grabbed the rest of the spike and threw it at the police head officer. Officer Jackson controlled the spike and split it into many pieces. He threw the small pieces of rocks all at once at the enemy but they all got dusted as they reached the range of his rage energy.
“None of my attacks are working. All of you keep stalling while this weapon charges up.”, Chief Jackson commanded his people.
“Got it.”, Assistant Chief August responded. The rest of the police officers nodded and followed his lead.
“I’ll fight too.”, Martin interrupted.
“Are you sure about this?”, Axel gazed into his colleague as he loaded his gun.
“You don’t have to if you can’t. I feel bad about making you fight earlier.”, Jess said.
“We need every power we have, and just like what you said, fighting is more of my thing.”, Martin focused his eyes on his colleague before charging into the enemy. Martin sprinted toward The Destroyer as he swung his right fist unleashing a destructive bolt of lightning. The Destroyer blocked the attack with his arms which were covered with thick rage energy.
“You still got more fight in you?”, The Destroyer asked.
“I always have a fight in me.”, Martin raised his arms unleashing a whip made up of electricity. He attacked him with both whips and the enemy dodged. The two clashed when all of a sudden, a positive sign appeared on The Destroyer’s hands. Before he could react, different objects around him started bolting toward him, along with the trucks that hit him earlier. The trucks pushed him backward.
“Keep shooting! And I’ll keep throwing things at him.”, August ordered. He put his hands before him initiating another attack.
“I hate this.”, The Destroyer whispered. Different road objects started flying toward him. He infused his right hand with an immense amount of rage energy and threw a series of explosive punches around him destroying all the thrown objects.
“Oh, god.”, August said.
“Is this annoying mark the reason those things were being pulled toward me?”, The Destroyer opened his hands at him as the mark got burned by pure rage energy.
“Anyone has an extra gun?”, August was dumbfounded.
“Here.”, Axel threw him a gun.
“And here’s some ammunition.”, Jess threw him some extra ammunition.
“I’m running low on ammunition!”, one of the police officers shouted.
“Me too!”, another one yelled.
“We will run out of ammunition soon. How much more time do you need?”, the captain whispered to Chief Jackson.
“Just a several more seconds.”, the chief replied in irritation.
“Okay, we’ll get you that few more seconds.”, the captain said. She grabbed something from her pocket.
“What is that?”, the chief stared at her hand.
“Something that can give you the time that you need.”, the captain answered.
“Are you kidding me? Isn’t that Discord-S? Those are illegal explosives! Where did you get that?!”, the chief said.
“Doesn’t matter. Axel, Shield us, assistant chief you know what to do!”, the captain ignored the questions. She enveloped her left arm with rage energy and catapulted the explosive directly at the enemy.
“Okay!”, Axel put his hands before him generating hundreds of bubbles bigger than before that merged to form a giant barrier.
“Wait what do I do?”, August asked.
“Use your-”, the captain glared at him.
“Just kidding.”, he interrupted. He added negative signs to all his allies and a positive sign to the farthest police car. Immediately, he and all of his allies were pulled into the police car. The Destroyer stared at the explosive unbothered by what type of explosion it would cause. In just a few seconds the explosive exploded and attacked the nearest entity. The impact of the explosion pushed The Destroyer backward by hundreds of meters.
“Hopefully this gives us enough time.”, the captain said.
“We still need to make sure the bullet would hit him.”, the captain added.
“I got a plan to make sure it would hit him.”, Martin chimed in.
“We’ll follow your lead.”, the chief said. In a short period of time, the officers worked on their plan as The Destroyer swiftly made his way back to them.
“Alright, he’s coming back!”, the chief announced. The Destroyer jumped and landed in front of them crashing the ground near him.
“Another S-Tier weapon, I wonder where you got that from?”, The Destroyer locked eyes at the captain.
“This is none of your business.”, the captain said in a serious tone.
“Oh, I know it is none of my business but your colleagues might want to know.”, The Destroyer pointed his hands at her coworkers.
“What is happening?”, the police chief said in confusion.
“Don’t listen to him, he’s just trying to distract us.”, the captain replied.
“What she actually wants to say is that she may or may not have been hoarding the funds for herself. Isn’t that right?”, The Destroyer said.
“That is not true!”, the captain started panicking.
“Oh really? Then let your coworkers investigate how you handle the funds.”, The Destroyer suggested.
“Do you agree? Look at them and say yes!”, he added.
“Fine, fine, fine! They can check my records, my transaction history, or whatever!”, the captain said.
“Look at them.”, The Destroyer instructed. Before the captain completely lost her mind, the chief signaled his coworkers to initiate the attack. In an instant, August attached a negative symbol to Martin. He used his signature ability to its maximum to accelerate the pull of Martin to the debris of a rock near the enemy. Martin, on the other hand, used all his power left to unleash a lightning uppercut on The Destroyer. The attack caused The Destroyer to be paralyzed for a few seconds.
“Now!”, Martin yelled at the chief.
“Alright! Come on hit the heart.”, the chief aimed carefully into The Destroyer’s heart. He shot a fully powered S-Tier gun directly aimed at the enemy’s heart. The entire group of law enforcement officers peered into the attack hoping for a likeable outcome. Unfortunately, The Destroyer’s fast reflexes kicked in, and he swiftly swatted the bullet. Their hope completely vanished as the bullet bounced on the ground.
“That’s it? That’s your plan?”, The Destroyer laughed and ridiculed his enemy.
“I have been holding back this entire time, I’m just trying to give you a chance before my ride comes. But it looks like hope is not on your side”, he added.
“No, way.”, Martin uttered as his exhausted body plunged onto the ground.
“We have given it our all but it appears that this is our limit.”, Chief Jackson accepted their fate.
“I hate to say it but that’s it, looks like we just have to accept defeat.”, the chief was crestfallen as he dropped his weapon to the ground. The law enforcement officers had no choice but to follow his lead and surrender except for one.
“What do you mean accept defeat? You were just willing to risk it all earlier.”, Jess broke the silence.
“And we did risk it all, but all our efforts were futile.”, the chief replied.
“Jess, we already lost.”, Axel, tried to convince his friend in a comforting way.
“But, what about Martin?”, Jess pleaded.
“We can’t help him anymore. There’s nothing we can do.”, Axel responded.
“Finally, now back to this guy.”, The Destroyer grabbed Martin by his shirt.
“How was your side hustle?”, The Destroyer tilted his head as he locked eyes with him.
“Don’t you tell anyone that.”, Martin appealed as he struggled to speak due to fatigue.
“Oh, I won’t tell anyone that you were selling drugs these past weeks.”, The Destroyer looked at the police officers.
“A law enforcement officer who doesn’t even follow the laws he is supposed to enforce, what a shame.”, The Destroyer added as he glowered at Martin.
“Is he telling the truth, Martin?”, the chief asked.
“I-I really was just in a tight situation, financially.”, Martin answered as he stared into the sky, trying to distract himself from the shame he was feeling.
“But why? You had a clean track record.”, the chief questioned.
“Is it-”, Axel tried to speak but was interrupted.
“It’s for Synthia.”, Jess cut in. Martin did not utter a word.
“I see.”, The Destroyer read Martin’s rage energy.
“You are planning on using the money for your daughter’s birthday.”, The Destroyer dropped him to the ground.
“Over a birthday? That’s your only reason?”, the assistant chief questioned.
“Hey, let’s not judge quickly.”, Jess defended.
“There’s got to be other reasons, right?”, the chief questioned.
“It must be shameful for your colleagues to know that you committed a crime for such a pointless reason. But I can help you end that shame.”, The Destroyer started preparing a condensed rage energy finger attack. Rage energy formed and pulsated at the tip of his index finger. He gazed at Martin and aimed the attack at him. Martin was too defeated to do and react to anything, Jess was feeling a gamut of emotions, Axel was silently tearing up, while the rest just stood there knowing that there was nothing else they could do.
“I won’t let this end this way, leaving my partner behind is a true act of betrayal.”, Jess whispered to herself. The rage energy at the tip of The Destroyer’s index finger was getting more massive. As the rage energy was accruing its size, The Destroyer was conflicted on whether he would shoot his head or heart. He wanted to shoot the head, because the head is capable of thinking evil, yet at the same time he wanted to shoot the heart to mock their failed plan of executing him with an S-Tier gun. As he was thinking, Jess was planning on doing something outrageous.
“It’s gonna be fine.”, Jess mouthed as she tried her best to smile at Martin when they locked eyes.
“Jess, no. You don’t have to do this.”, Martin mouthed back at her. The instant she said those words, he knew what was going to happen. He realized that their relationship as partners had transcended into something deeper than just typical coworkers because, at the last moment of their lives, they chose to live or die together.
“Martin, I’m sorry but I might not be able to come to your daughter’s birthday!”, Jess screamed at his old friend. He slowly treaded forward as Martin was too stunned to speak, his mind was full of regret, thinking it was going to be his fault that he dragged his friend into the mess he had created.
“What are you doing?”, Jess broke The Destroyer’s concentration with her actions.
“Bloodline Technique: Ancestral Grounds.”, Jess uttered as she closed her eyes and placed her hands in a prayer position.
“No!”, Martin used all of his strength left to let out a scream to try to stop her, but it was too late. All of a sudden, the ground started shaking, and the tremors radiated through everyone’s bodies as specters of humanoid figures started to emerge from the cracks.
“What in the hell is this?”, The Destroyer was perplexed by the ability's effect.
“What exactly is happening? Everyone back down and avoid the cracks!”, the chief ordered.
“I’ll help us move.”, the assistant chief said.
“So this is your signature ability, Jess.”. Axel muttered in astonishment as he looked at her one more time before moving away from them.
“Incredible, so this is an ancestral ability, interesting…”, The Destroyer observed Jess as her body was covered in ominous dark red rage energy.
