Breaking The Girl

Ophelia’s Point Of View I lay in my bed wide awake it is three am and I have not slept all night. My lashes brush against my face as I lay on my back in my bed. I let of a sigh of what almost sounds like disappointment in my life. I absent mindedly snap the hair tie on my wrist while I am in deep thought. I sit up on my bed submitting myself to the fact that I am not gonna get any sleep tonight. My cat a black male cat hops onto my bed purring wanting my attention. A small almost unnoticeable smile pulls at the corner of my mouth. But just as it appeared it is gone. “Hey there Midnight,” I say petting his head. He meows in response to my voice. I check the clock again for what feels like the millionth time in the last three minutes. As it ticks closer to four am my mind is slowly starting to shut off and I begin to get tired so I lay down and Midnight hops up and lays on my chest still purring. I finally fall asleep knowing that Alessandra is coming over in the morning with big news. As sleep over takes me my body fully relaxes. The next morning. The sun light streams through my closed blinded windows in my room. It hits my eyes making me groan and turn over trying to block it out. Midnight starts his morning ritual of licking and biting my toes to wake me up so I’ll feed him. I groan and kick my foot that he ain’t licking. “Fine, fine I’ll get up,” I say sitting up and putting my feet down on the cold hardwood floor. I stand up stretching and head down the hall to the kitchen where his food and water dishes are located. I bend down and grab his food dish and head to the tub where his food is opening it before filling the dish. Once it is full I place it back in its spot and Midnight starts eating happily. I start making me some coffee needing the pick me up today knowing that my always perky best friend Alessandra is coming over today. Once the coffee is done I pour a cup counting down how much longer my house will be in peace before Alessandra gets here. She is seventeen and I am eighteen. My parents kicked me out once I turned eighteen but I wasn’t as mad as they hoped cause I wanted out of that toxic hell hole long before my eighteenth birthday. My front door opens and in walks Alessandra in her usual giddy happy go lucky fashion. “Hey girl guess what I got for us,” she says. “What now?” I ask her. “I got us tickets to Nickelback tomorrow night,” she says. “Holy s**t that is amazing,” I say. “I know right we have been waiting for this forever,” she says. We both head to my living room and sit on my couch. I sip my coffee as she scrolls through the channels on my TV to find something to watch before we head out to get shopping for the concert at ten am. It is currently seven am. Once she finds something we just sit there listening and talking about the concert. Ten am arrives and we both head to my car to drive to the mall to shop. “Are you ready shop so we look fabulous?” She asks. “Yes I guess,” I say. “This is gonna be so fun,” she says. “Yeah it will be,” I agree. We get to the mall and head for the clothing stores. Once we get there we find the cutest outfits and buy them before heading to the food court. We order pizza and sodas before finding a table to sit at. “So girl are you excited to head to the show tomorrow?” Alessandra asks. “Yeah I am this is gonna be so amazing,” I say. “Well I also got us backstage passes for after the show too,” she says. “That is amazing,” I say. We finish our food and head back to my car to drop her off at her place and then I can head back to place to shower, feed Midnight dinner, and then head to bed cause I have to be up early to get ready for the show that starts at seven pm sharp but doors open at six pm. I drop Alessandra off at her mom and dad’s place before heading back to my apartment. Once I get back to my apartment and get inside I set my bags from the mall and feed Midnight before heading to my bathroom to shower and get ready for bed. Once I am done with the shower I head back to the living room to grab the bags and bring them to my room so I can put them away. Once the clothes and stuff is put away I head to my bed and crawl into it. I turn on the TV that is in my room and get comfortable in bed before shutting out my lights. As I lay there in the dark I think about how fun tomorrow is gonna be. Its gonna be a long day for me but it will be so worth it. I close my eyes to try and let sleep find me. Eventually sleep does find me and I drift into a peaceful sleep. The first one that I have had in a while. For once the nightmares about my younger sisters death are gone and I am peaceful. I smile in my sleep as a good dream about what could happen at the concert tomorrow fills my mind. I let it stay in my mind as long as it wants cause I don’t want the nightmares to return. I barely toss and turn through out the night which is not normal for me at all.
